The Rangers did a lot to reload by bringing players in from outside the organization, but what about the youngsters they're trying to develop from within? K&C take a look at the latest prospect rankings and where the Rangers' top prospects rank, including a list from the Athletic that has SS prospect Sebastian Walcott as the #2 overall prospect in baseball.
Transcript
00:00So, Sebastian Walcott, 17 for MLB.com, Baseball America, either 20 or 21, Keith Law, 2.
00:26Holy cow.
00:27Sebastian Walcott.
00:28I guess big hands, I shook it.
00:29Is listed as the number two prospect in all of baseball behind only Roman Anthony.
00:35And I think MLB.com had Roman Anthony at second behind only Roki Suzaki.
00:42And you might have arguments about how you think all of that works, but the point is
00:46everybody agrees or seems mostly everyone agrees that Roman Anthony is really good.
00:51So Keith Law says Sebastian Walcott has jumped from 40th to second on the list.
00:58The backfields are going to be so much fun this year.
01:00Is he going to be on the backfields or is he going to be on the field?
01:03I don't know if he got invited to camp.
01:04He did.
01:05He did get invited to camp.
01:07I know another name that popped up that people were intrigued by is Jesse Chavez, who we've
01:11talked to before.
01:12I love Jesse Chavez.
01:13He's a good dude.
01:14But Sebastian Walcott will be there.
01:17And so I can go through whatever part that you guys want in this, but I'm going to skip
01:22ahead just a little bit.
01:23He was okay in high A, low A, but from then on he cooked.
01:28296, 351 and 511 slash until a late season promotion to double A. So on the whole, he
01:35ended the year with an odd base percentage, 17 points above the Sally league average and
01:41a slugging percentage, 78 points above it.
01:44And he was the youngest regular in the league.
01:47So you're like, you're above average to way above average.
01:51He's still 18 years old.
01:53Yes.
01:54And he was, I think he might've just turned 19.
01:57He turns 19 March 14th.
01:59Oh, okay.
02:00So in spring training, he turns 19.
02:03So you could argue he's still a senior in high school.
02:06That is unbelievable.
