00:00The sun's out here in Longreach and so are the flies. It's another hot day here, but
00:06heatwave conditions are starting to ease slightly. It's a top of 43 degrees expected here today,
00:13but that's slightly lower than we saw during parts of the end of last week, where it was
00:18in the mid sort of 40s. And it's still very dry out here, but it's a very different story
00:23on the tropical north coast of Queensland, where it's been raining quite heavily and
00:28forecasters are expecting that rain to continue for the next few days, with a low pressure
00:32system sort of sitting off the coast. So there is a severe weather warning in place for areas
00:37between Cairns and Townsville, and some of those areas could experience possible flash
00:43flooding. They could experience rainfall totals of around 180 millimetres in a short period
00:49of time, according to forecasters. There is a flood watch in place at the moment for areas
00:55for river systems between Cairns and Townsville. And at the moment, there are a couple of tropical
01:01lows that could possibly form in the Coral Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria. Forecasters
01:07at the Weather Bureau are saying at least two, but possibly more. Now, as we head into
01:11the weekend, there is a higher chance that those tropical lows could form into a tropical
01:15cyclone. And some of this wet weather that's come along, it's sort of, you know, starting
01:20a very late monsoon season for the North Queensland coast. Forecasters are saying it's
01:26the latest start for the monsoon season in about 70 years.
