00:00Hello, with the Republic of Ireland seeing its highest wind gust on record and for large
00:06parts of the UK seeing wind gusts in excess of 80, 90 miles an hour, it's little wonder
00:11that Storm Eowyn has brought widespread severe disruption as it's moved north-eastwards
00:16across the UK and Ireland. It is now pushing north, that means the worst is over for Northern
00:21Ireland, Central and Southern Scotland, but the winds will continue to pick up over the
00:24evening for Northern Scotland, still the risk of 70-80 mph wind gusts, perhaps 90 in
00:30exposed spots. Those winds do come down a little by the end of the night and certainly
00:33a much calmer night for England, Wales and Northern Ireland with clear spells we'll see
00:38temperatures falling away, perhaps even a touch of frost and some icy patches out there.
00:44Yellow warnings in force for snow and ice with some wintry showers affecting Northern
00:47Ireland as the night progresses and also some icy patches likely for parts of England and
00:53Wales. But the windiest weather will remain across the north of Scotland accompanied
00:58by frequent bands of rain and hill snow and that also could cause some issues first thing
01:05this weekend. But it is an improving picture through Saturday, indeed a beautiful start
01:10the day for much of England and Wales, clear blue skies, a crisp winter day to come, staying
01:15chilly but less windy compared with Friday. Scotland and Northern Ireland stay blustery,
01:20some sunshine for a time as the strongest winds move away from Scotland. We'll continue
01:25to see showers in the Northern Isles but eventually a drier interlude before this next system
01:31pushes into Northern Ireland by the middle of the afternoon. That's going to bring some
01:34lively showers, perhaps some thunder, hail and gusty winds with it as well. It's going
01:39to make it feel cold. Now that's going to work its way west, east across the UK on Saturday
01:47evening. Like I say, a lively spell of weather similar to Thursday's system where we saw
01:53some high wind gusts and some thunder. It's a brief spell of heavy rain as well but not
02:00on the scale of storm Eowyn and it's replaced by showers towards the west so I imagine that
02:06on Sunday morning again it will be chilly in places, perhaps a few icy patches here
02:11and there. The lowest temperatures will be towards the east under any clear spells but
02:15towards the south west already we'll see a shield of medium and high cloud arriving
02:19ahead of the next system. Now for eastern and northern parts of the country, a fine
02:26day until at least later in the afternoon, some hazy sunshine but for much of Northern
02:32Ireland, central and southern England as well as Wales we'll see a deterioration into the
02:37afternoon, a spell of wet weather moving in accompanied by strong winds, 60, perhaps 70
02:42mph wind gusts. Again, not anywhere near on the scale of storm Eowyn but certainly
02:48not welcome and likely to hamper recovery efforts so yellow warnings in force for that
02:54and as always I would urge you to check the very latest warnings and forecasts on the
02:59Met Office social media channels website and app. Milder air accompanies this and once
03:04it moves in, well the start of next week brings yet more turbulent weather with heavy showers
03:09and gusty winds at times. Higher pressure is on the horizon but not until later next
03:15week. We'll keep you updated right here.
