00:00Well, I'm in Longreach, which is the hottest place in Queensland right now.
00:06Forecast to reach 46 degrees and Winton down the road also 46.
00:11But yesterday we were forecast to be 45 and ended up reaching a top of 46.4 degrees.
00:17So have been exceeding those maximum forecasts there.
00:21And just to give you a bit of an idea of just how hot it is standing here on the main street
00:26in the middle of the day.
00:27It feels like I'm standing in an oven.
00:30The heat is radiating off the ground through my shoes.
00:33I can feel it all through my body.
00:35And it's not just the people who are finding it hot.
00:38I actually saw a family of emus down the street as well, a father and its little chicklings.
00:44When it gets particularly hot and dry, they tend to come into town looking for shade,
00:49looking for feed when it is those really hot temperatures.
00:53Now the locals here are used to the heat.
00:56They're very hardy.
00:57Even they can admit it is being particularly brutal this week.
01:02This is what one man had to say.
01:04Oh yeah, it's going to be a bit hotter later on in the day, but yeah, it'll be a good time
01:10to just head to the pub and have a quiet one and settle down for the rest of the day I think.
01:15Today definitely for sure still hot around the state, still in severe or low intensity
01:20heatwave conditions.
01:21Brisbane and the southeast corner of course up to 10 degrees above average for this time
01:26of year.
01:27But in good news, the Bureau did say that a southerly change is on the way, meaning
01:31that later on, either tomorrow or on Sunday, there should be a bit of a reprieve for us
01:37Queenslanders just in time for the long weekend.
