00:00A patch of shade or a splash in the water. Darwin's extreme heat, not a deterrent for
00:08everyone.
00:09Yeah, pretty hot but I'm just, we're all generally hot though.
00:12And it's flat season so it's a bit hotter but with the breeze it's nice.
00:16It wasn't just the top end sweltering. The Bureau predicted much of the NT south of Pine
00:21Creek would hit 40 degrees today, with Alice Springs reaching 43 and Jervois Station in
00:28central Australia nearing 44.
00:30We're going to see the heatwave ease slightly towards the end of the week but that's only
00:35the extreme easing. We're still going to see the severe heatwave across most of the NT
00:41for the next week.
00:42The Bureau says hot overnight temperatures are having an impact.
00:46You don't get the chance to recuperate overnight so your body can't recover overnight which
00:50you can if you've got those cool temperatures. So it's not just hot temperatures during the
00:55day, it's both hot in the day and at night.
00:57Nationally, this December is fast becoming one of the hottest on record. At the Palmerston
01:03Pool, Territorians dodge the extreme conditions.
01:06When I went downstairs at home I'm like, I think I might need to go back inside to the
01:10aircon because it's so bad.
01:12We just think everything's been hot since we arrived. So we do certainly see the difference
01:16between a couple of months ago and some days we certainly walk out of the house and go
01:21oh my goodness that is, that's a tad warm.
01:24The extreme conditions have triggered a health warning for the Tiwi, Daly, Gregory and Barclay
01:28regions. NT Health says heatwaves can be deadly even for the most seasoned Territorians. So
01:34it's important to cool down, seek shelter and have plenty of water to drink.
01:39Mum makes me put on sunscreen, water, lots and lots of water.
01:43Trying to keep cool with the prospect of a sweltering Christmas ahead.
