00:00An ongoing heat wave around Western Australia through the week so far.
00:05A couple of days ago we actually saw temperature clock over 49 degrees at the Gascoyne Junction.
00:10Yesterday the top temperatures were about 46.5 degrees around Telfer but broadly speaking
00:16lots of places between 40 and 45 throughout interior and western parts of the state.
00:22And that's the same again today.
00:23Many places could be between 5 and 15 degrees warmer than their average for the time of
00:28year and this includes places that have a pretty high summer average that are warm areas
00:32and that means once again we're going to see locations clock in in the mid and potentially
00:37upper 40s through central parts of WA today.
00:40Not quite that hot on the coastline, we're likely to be in the mid to upper 30s for most
00:45people on the west coast and probably the high 20s to low 30s on the south coast.
00:49In Western Australia we are talking about an Australian summer so every year, every
00:53summer they do see these bursts of heat, they do see heatwave conditions out there and they
00:57do see really, really warm to hot temperatures at times every summer.
01:01However what we're seeing at the moment is a prolonged heatwave and it's coming on the
01:05back of other prolonged heatwaves over the recent months so it's almost one leading into
01:10the next, leading into the next so it's really a prolonged hot spell with very little respite,
01:15not just respite in terms of rainfall but very little respite in terms of cooler weather
01:19before it bounces back up to those very, very hot days.
01:22So it has been an unusually hot prolonged spell of heat and it's likely to shake out
01:27as a very warm summer when it's all said and done.
