00:00The four senior high school graduates who were supposed to graduate from Baras-Rizal were unfortunately taken to the hospital.
00:08Two of them were dead on arrival at the hospital after drowning.
00:12EJ Gomez has the news for you.
00:17This happened in Ungga Falls, Barangay San Salvador, Baras-Rizal, around 3 p.m. on Monday.
00:24Authorities are trying to find the two men who drowned after going to the deep part of the falls.
00:31Due to the high water level, the rescuers had a hard time finding the victims.
00:37It took a few more hours before the victims were able to get out of the water.
00:42According to the police investigation, four senior high school graduates were allowed to swim in Ungga Falls
00:49after they obtained their medical certificate for their work immersion.
00:54One of them immediately jumped into the water and went to the deep part of the falls.
00:58He tried to save his classmate, but he also drowned.
01:02We saw him calling and asking for his grandfather.
01:07He asked his classmate to help him.
01:12They both went to the deep part of the falls.
01:15Unfortunately, these four classmates were not able to swim.
01:23They were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
01:25The victims were 17 and 18 years old.
01:28The man who drowned was his friend, John Mike Paschon,
01:34a resident of Antipolo City, Barangay Kupang.
01:36He was only three months old when he graduated.
01:40He was the eldest of two siblings.
01:42It was very painful.
01:44He was already gone, but he was not able to save one of his siblings.
01:53I'm sorry.
02:01Even though he was in danger, he was proud, but of course, he was sad.
02:07It would have been better if he could save himself and his classmates.
02:14EJ Gomez reported for GMA Integrated News.
02:20More than a year has passed since the release of 17 Filipino crews
02:24who were among the hostages of the Houthi group.
02:27They were accompanied by Oman government officials
02:29and the eight-member crew of the MV Galaxy Leader.
02:32They were also watched by Filipino embassies.
02:35The crew came from the neighboring country of Yemen,
02:37where the Houthis are based.
02:39According to the group,
02:41they were released as part of the Israel and Hamas ceasefire.
02:45President Bongbong Marcos thanked the Omani government
02:48for releasing the Filipinos.
02:51According to the Department of Foreign Affairs,
02:53they were charged with sending back 17 Filipinos.
02:56The United Nations also approved the release of the MV Galaxy Leader's crew.
03:01On November 2023, the Houthis seized the MV Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea
03:06more than a month after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
03:11An illegal recruiter, Omanoh, who promised work in Canada,
03:16some of the victims sacrificed their possessions
03:19to get the money the suspect asked for.
03:23This is a report by Bam Alegre, Exclusive.
03:30The complainants joined the office of the Anti-Transnational Crimes Unit
03:33at Camp Krames in Quezon City last night.
03:35Yesterday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, or CIDG,
03:39arrested an illegal recruiter.
03:41The suspect, Omanoh, was the first suspect.
03:45His modus was to collect money from victims
03:47in exchange for a life in Canada as a skilled worker or farmer.
03:51But eventually, they found out that there was no flight
03:53and no job waiting for them.
03:55Last night, the suspect was arrested in a bypass operation
03:57while he was receiving money from one of the victims.
04:00Most people can see this online, through Facebook.
04:06It has a platform.
04:07Others can see it through referral.
04:10It's shocking because he's not a licensed recruiter
04:15given by the authority of our Department of Migrant Workers.
04:25He's a court-inducted in our intravenous operation
04:28where he's asking for money from other people
04:33whom he promised he would send to Canada.
04:38Suspects are asking for P120,000 to P160,000 for each victim.
04:43Like Maria, she didn't realize that she escaped from Naga City.
04:47The promises were in vain, but when they arrived in Manila,
04:49their eyes were blinded waiting for their flight.
04:52Four of them rented a room in Pasay.
04:56He explained to us that we will work in Canada as farmers.
05:04He also said that the salary there is high.
05:12Pre-accommodation and free food.
05:16When we arrive in Canada, we will be able to repay the money we spent.
05:22From Sultan Kudarat to Ilana, she doesn't have a real name.
05:25She promised a big income and a quick opportunity to a scammer
05:28when they asked for money from their neighborhood.
05:30She sacrificed a lot to get the money that the illegal recruiter asked for.
05:35I borrowed P60,000 from my neighbor,
05:38and P10,000 from another neighbor.
05:41I also borrowed a motorcycle from my son
05:45and a home lot.
05:49The police is not yet facing the suspect who received money from the entrapment
05:52because of their ongoing follow-up operation
05:54and the investigation if this is an organized group
05:57because some of his accomplices are still at large.
06:00For now, the suspect is facing an illegal recruitment case.
06:03We are calling on our countrymen to be careful
06:09especially when applying to other countries
06:11because there are many who are getting recognized as legit recruiters
06:18but they are not licensed by the Department of Migrant Worker.
06:23Bam Alegre, reporting for GMA Integrated News.
06:31The Department of Agriculture plans to sell rice to some supermarkets and convenience stores
06:38that can be purchased from Kadiwa Stores.
06:41This includes P29 per kilo of rice,
06:44P36 for rice,
06:46and P38 per kilo of rice for all.
06:49According to the DA, this will help more consumers.
06:53The difference in the price of rice in supermarkets is even bigger
06:57compared to the markets.
06:59They agreed to help the supermarkets and convenience store chains here.
07:04Based on the latest monitoring of the DA,
07:07P37 to P63 per kilo of local rice in Metro Manila depends on the class.
07:14P38 to P61 per kilo of imported rice can be purchased.
07:20This also depends on the class.
07:22The weather is expected to be rainy in some parts of the country for the next few months
07:28due to the La Niña conditions.
07:3059% chance of La Niña conditions will continue until April.
07:34Even if it's just a slight and temporary, it's possible for a storm to occur.
07:38La Niña is the drop in the temperature or the cold of the sea
07:42in the central and eastern portion of the Pacific Ocean.
07:44Its opposite effect is in the Philippines.
07:47Here, the sea heats up and causes rain.
07:51For now, the northern and central part of the Southern Luzon is affected by the shear line.
07:57For a few weeks, the shear line and the Easter lease
08:01are one of the effects of La Niña.
08:04Based on the rainfall forecast of Metro Weather,
08:07some parts of Cagayan Valley will be flooded.
08:10The chance of rain is low here in Metro Manila.
