00:01:00you

00:08:18Welcome to Place Belle.
00:08:48Good morning and welcome to Place Belle in Laval, Quebec, host of the 2025 Canadian National
00:09:11Skating Championships.
00:09:13In just a few moments, we will start the Junior Pair free program.
00:09:35The current record for a Canadian team in the Junior Pair event is 168.83, held by Ava
00:09:43Kemp and Yonatan Alisarov of Manitoba. This record was set in December 2023 at the ISU
00:09:50Junior Grand Prix Final.
00:09:52The officials for this event, please welcome the referee, André-Marc Allain.
00:09:59The judges, Karen Howard, Hilary Quick, William Lindsay, Karen Butcher,
00:10:30Lorna Schroeder, Guylaine Séguin, Sarah Coombs, Aaron Shalhoub, and Shannon Downing.
00:10:37The technical controllers, Véronique Gosselin, the technical specialists, Raoul Leblanc,
00:11:07and Annie Thibodeau.
00:11:38Welcome back, this is Laurence Darbeau, still with Charly Bilodeau, we are about to start
00:11:46the free program at the Junior Pair Skating Championships, and we will crown our new
00:11:56Canadian champions following this event.
00:12:01So, what can we expect? What elements can we see in this event?
00:12:09Well, first of all, I want to say yes, crown the new one, but maybe also the couple from
00:12:19last year. So, a new couple of the year, but maybe it will be a two-in-two for the couple
00:12:30of Ava Kemp and Yonatan Alisarov. But for today, the free program at the Junior Pair
00:12:38Skating Championships, we will see programs of 3 minutes and 30 seconds, composed of 10
00:12:48elements, two doors, a criss-cross door, two different jumps, an individual jump side-by-side,
00:12:53a combination of side-by-side jumps, combined pirouettes in pairs, death spiral, and choreographic
00:12:58sequences.
00:13:03And now, on the ice, Siyulbak and Gavin Mahoney.
00:13:08The young couple, the newcomer in this category, Siyulbak and Gavin Mahoney.
00:13:13He was a novice last year.
00:13:18Skater, you have six minutes for your warm-up.
00:13:23And Julien Catrochi and Simon Desmarais, who this year took part in the Junior Grand Prix
00:13:33Grand Prix.
00:13:38A beautiful surprise.
00:13:43Yes, it's an event, we still have to mention it. A participation in the Junior Grand Prix
00:13:48Grand Prix is still a remarkable moment in a skating career. It's one of the biggest
00:13:53stages on the planet where to compete. These are the six best skaters in the world.
00:13:58The Canadian National Skating Federation had only given them one Grand Prix at the beginning
00:14:03of the season. Following their super good results, they had a second nomination.
00:14:08Following that, qualification to the Grand Prix final. We can say a beautiful golden season
00:14:13for them. Unfortunately, a little counterperformance yesterday.
00:14:18Yes, it's a shame. It's part of the life of an athlete. But at the same time, I want to
00:14:23say, in the overall picture of the season, if the performance is less than what we are
00:14:30able to deliver, to do it in Canada, when we do high-caliber international competitions,
00:14:37sometimes it can be a kind of bomb. Well, perfect, I prefer to do it here at home than
00:14:43at the World Junior Championships, for example, where we will see at the end of this competition
00:14:50which skaters will take place in the World Junior Team. There are three places available,
00:14:58so the stakes are high. But I don't necessarily expect a high-color and high-point event.
00:15:07I say that with a lot of respect, but simply by the fact that, yes, incredible skaters,
00:15:16but several injuries that slowed down the course of the champion in title and vice-champion
00:15:23in title, as I said a little earlier in the introduction. Charlie, La Liberté, Laurent,
00:15:30who had a tear in the labrum. Operation, return to competition, here in Laval. And they leave
00:15:41in a few days for their first international assignment, the Bavarian Open, in Germany.
00:15:46They will also be accompanied by Ava Kemp and Yonatan Elizarov, who, on their side too,
00:15:51Ava unfortunately had a back injury at the beginning of the season, and so we had to stop.
00:16:00We gradually resumed training in September. We did the championships, the Skate Canada
00:16:06challenges. We didn't put the package in terms of program content, in terms of elements,
00:16:10but here, today, at the national championships, we felt ready, so we put the package,
00:16:16we put all the elements, and then, for the rest of the season, we hope to have a place
00:16:20in the World Team.
00:16:23Yes, so a lot of worries for these young couples. They are still young athletes,
00:16:28to live this kind of injury. It takes communication, resilience. I think that, in the long term,
00:16:36it builds athletes who are well-equipped to face this in perhaps more grandiose moments.
00:16:43Yes, and speaking of grandiose moments, I find the nursery that we have in Canada
00:16:49exceptional among junior couples. Last year, I remember, I was still very surprised,
00:16:57very happy to see that among the competitors of the 2024 edition of the nationals, there were
00:17:03three couples who took part in the Grand Prix final last year, and then we come back this year.
00:17:09Same thing again, three couples among the five couples we see on the ice today.
00:17:15And new couples.
00:17:17New couples too, yes, exactly. So, the international experience, it remains very, very
00:17:25formative for a career. And sometimes it will give the kind of spark, the kind of spark,
00:17:32which makes even more, I want to say, the implication of perceiving what we do on the ice,
00:17:40the sport we practice, as a career in itself, as a vocation. And then, that's it.
00:17:46So, a bright future for Canada as a couple.
00:17:50Speaking of little sparkles, I have the impression that this is what gave the fire to this couple
00:17:56that we just saw on the ice, Giulia Quattrocchi, Simone Desmarais, who experienced that little spark,
00:18:01and Passenage Canada continued to keep the flame alive throughout the season
00:18:07by giving them that second assignment.
00:18:10I wish them a free program as much as they are capable of tonight.
00:18:13That's for sure, yes.
00:18:15There is one minute remaining in this one.
00:18:20And I want to say, there is also the snowball effect in couples skating.
00:18:26Obviously, we have our Canadiens, world champions among seniors.
00:18:32And then, there is a kind of enthusiasm, I think we see it quite often,
00:18:37as soon as among seniors, there are great skaters, figures that we see everywhere.
00:18:42Well, people are drawn to this discipline.
00:18:46I have the impression that there is a good momentum on the side of couple skating.
00:18:51And then, with assignments, precisely three places available for the World Junior Championships.
00:18:57Well, we can also let couples come in, gain experience in international competitions.
00:19:02Sometimes, when the country fights to get as many places as possible,
00:19:08well, it can be a more difficult game to select which skater to send,
00:19:13because we want to try to have even more places available the following year
00:19:18to send skaters to the international.
00:19:20But now, we have the luxury of having three places available.
00:19:23And so, we can send our two best, then a recruit who will gain experience
00:19:28and this kind of strategy that can be adopted.
00:19:31But there is a lot of potential and room to develop for junior couples.
00:19:36So, this third place is precious.
00:19:38It is precious, yes.
00:19:44So, let's go for a huge day of incredible artistic skating.
00:19:50The first couple to launch for the free program at the Junior Couples Skating.
00:19:55Siyul Bak and Gavin Mahoney.
00:19:58They train at the Mariposa School of Skating under the direction of Janice Morgan and Ryan Arnold.
00:20:05They present us their free program on the music The Impossible Dream.
00:20:13The Impossible Dream
00:20:43The Impossible Dream
00:21:13The Impossible Dream
00:21:43The Impossible Dream
00:22:13The Impossible Dream
00:22:44The Impossible Dream
00:23:03The Impossible Dream
00:23:13The Impossible Dream
00:23:43The Impossible Dream
00:23:59Representing Ontario, Siyul Bak and Gavin Mahoney.
00:24:14Their first year at the Junior Couples Skating.
00:24:17So, obviously, we have less experience than the other skaters.
00:24:22We are not competing on the international scene yet.
00:24:26But given the situation at the Junior Couples Skating,
00:24:30where there are only five couples,
00:24:33well, there are moments, moments where we have to go and gain experience,
00:24:38like this couple at the Junior Couples Skating.
00:24:40Even if we know very well that we are not here for a podium in itself,
00:24:45but to develop, to gain experience.
00:24:48Absolutely. I always say that the senior junior scene is another level of performance,
00:24:52another level of speed.
00:24:54And often just being on the same warm-ups as these other skaters,
00:24:59we gain experience in competition.
00:25:01And above all, through all this, there is also the strategic aspect.
00:25:06Well-established junior couples,
00:25:08but who in the coming years will not have the choice to migrate to the senior.
00:25:13So, who will be in the junior?
00:25:16Well, it will be Siyul and Gavin who will have the most experience
00:25:20among this new wave of skaters.
00:25:22So, maybe this year is not the time
00:25:26where they can shine and dream of the podium.
00:25:30But in the coming years, well, it will be them to watch for the podium.
00:25:34And there will be this year, 2025, behind the tie.
00:25:39Absolutely.
00:25:40Here we see the death spiral.
00:25:42And precisely, in terms of scoring,
00:25:45we often see when we are really, I want to say, in fierce competition.
00:25:51This year, in the short program,
00:25:53the imposed death spiral was the outside rear spiral.
00:25:57In these situations, when we want to try to get as many points as possible
00:26:01in the free program, we do the spiral that is worth the most points
00:26:05after the one that is imposed in the short program.
00:26:08So, we will mainly see inside rear spirals.
00:26:12But here, we went with a front spiral that is worth less points.
00:26:15So, we are not yet in the maximum optimization of the points for this couple,
00:26:18but it will come.
00:26:20So, the score for Siyul and Gavin, 71.51,
00:26:25for a total score of 112.79.
00:26:30And they both score the 112.79.
00:26:41Please welcome the next skaters.
00:26:43From Quebec, Julia Quatroche and Simon Desmarais.
00:26:59Here is their free program on the music Sign of the Times.
00:27:30Welcome to the final show
00:27:33I hope you're wearing your best clothes
00:27:39We never thought we'd be here before
00:27:43Why are we always stuck and running from
00:27:46The bullet
00:27:50The bullet
00:27:55We never thought we'd be here before
00:27:59Why are we always stuck and running from
00:28:02The bullet
00:28:06The bullet
00:28:11Just stop your crying, it's a sign of the times
00:28:17We gotta get away from here
00:28:21We gotta get away from here
00:28:26Just stop your crying, it'll be alright
00:28:33They told me that the end is near
00:28:37We gotta get away from here
00:28:55They told me that the end is near
00:28:59We gotta get away from here
00:29:03Just stop your crying, it's a sign of the times
00:29:09We gotta get away from here
00:29:13We gotta get away from here
00:29:17Just stop your crying, it'll be alright
00:29:23We gotta get away from here
00:29:28We don't talk enough
00:29:52We should have enough
00:29:56Before it's all too much
00:30:02We got to get away
00:30:06We got to get away
00:30:10We got to get away
00:30:17We got to, we got to
00:30:21We got to, we got to
00:30:26We got to, we got to
00:30:28Get away
00:30:56She comes from Laval
00:30:58They delivered this kind of performance
00:31:00In front of family and friends
00:31:02It wasn't exactly what they were looking for yesterday
00:31:05As a performance
00:31:06But they did well today
00:31:08Representing Quebec
00:31:09Ah yes
00:31:10And it feels good to see those smiles
00:31:13At the end of a performance
00:31:16The national championships
00:31:17Still, it remains in a season
00:31:20A remarkable competition
00:31:22Especially when it takes place
00:31:24In our province
00:31:25And in our hometown
00:31:29Absolutely
00:31:30A couple that won in experience
00:31:32In experience together
00:31:34Because it's been a while
00:31:36Since they've been a couple on the ice
00:31:40Yes
00:31:41But also in international experience this year
00:31:44A lot of beautiful things
00:31:45That presented themselves to them
00:31:47And they say it
00:31:48And they don't hide it
00:31:49They know they're in the middle
00:31:50For these three places
00:31:52On the world team
00:31:54So there was a little pressure
00:31:56On the performance this week
00:31:59We see here on the screen
00:32:00The double porter
00:32:03He's currently working on the triple
00:32:06Here the double axel side-by-side
00:32:08A little bit of difficulty
00:32:10Landing on Julia's side
00:32:14Here the porter
00:32:16In star position change
00:32:18We take the leg
00:32:20Rotation with one hand
00:32:22With a difficult exit
00:32:24We went for a level 4
00:32:29The triple salchow
00:32:31A little bit at the front of the blade
00:32:34For Julia
00:32:35Here
00:32:36Ah!
00:32:37I was just wondering
00:32:39If the foot
00:32:41The peak of Simon's pivot
00:32:43Had moved on the ice
00:32:45And in slow motion we saw
00:32:47That we drop the peak
00:32:49In pivot position
00:32:51But after that we slide a little
00:32:54It will cost points unfortunately
00:32:57Let's see
00:32:58What it will give in terms of level
00:33:00At the video replay
00:33:06And we end with the position
00:33:08In couple
00:33:11And the final position
00:33:12And the smile
00:33:15Since we are happy
00:33:16With what we just delivered
00:33:20I have the impression
00:33:22To see a relief
00:33:24In Julia's eyes
00:33:26Following this performance
00:33:28Yes
00:33:32A couple to watch
00:33:34For the rest
00:33:36They went for the good
00:33:38International experience this year
00:33:44So 92.77 for Julia
00:33:47And Simon
00:33:48141.77
00:33:50They are currently in the first
00:33:52Provisional ranking
00:33:54Now
00:33:56And they increase their score
00:34:00They did the international 139.13
00:34:03So a better personal score for them
00:34:05This season
00:34:07Now
00:34:08We wait
00:34:13We wait
00:34:14The next 3 skaters
00:34:16Will determine the rest of this event
00:34:20We see on the screen
00:34:21Martina and Charlie
00:34:30So the next 3 couples
00:34:32Take place on the ice
00:34:34For their warm-up period
00:34:41We recall
00:34:42The first competition of the season
00:34:44Martina and Charlie
00:34:52Their coach
00:34:53Marc-André
00:34:54Told me
00:34:55During the season
00:34:57They were wondering
00:34:59If they were going to compete
00:35:01This season
00:35:03Finally
00:35:04They made the decision
00:35:06Charlie's recovery was going well
00:35:08They knew
00:35:10The world championships were coming
00:35:12There was a chance for them to go
00:35:14So they decided
00:35:16To start the competition season
00:35:18To be here
00:35:20To make a first appearance
00:35:22Let's see what happens next
00:35:26Speaking of what happens next
00:35:28We have here
00:35:30Martina and Charlie
00:35:32From an international competition
00:35:34In Germany
00:35:36The Bavarian Open
00:35:38From 20 to 26 January
00:35:40They will also take part
00:35:42In this competition
00:35:44So we can see
00:35:46From Canada
00:35:48We have 2 skaters
00:35:50Who are very strong
00:35:52Who stand out
00:35:54On the international stage
00:35:56Who have a lot of experience
00:35:58But this year
00:36:00They didn't have a competition
00:36:02Where they could
00:36:04Take part
00:36:06So we assign them a competition
00:36:08As usual
00:36:10At the end of the Canadian championships
00:36:12We announce
00:36:14The assignments
00:36:16For the World Junior Championships
00:36:18It's possible
00:36:20That this year
00:36:22We will wait for the Bavarian Open
00:36:24To see
00:36:26What these 2 couples
00:36:28Are able to deliver
00:36:30This time
00:36:32The suspense
00:36:34May last longer
00:36:36The advantage
00:36:38For several of these couples
00:36:40The International Skate Union
00:36:42Changed the ages
00:36:44For the couple skating
00:36:46And the dance
00:36:48So the age
00:36:50Went up to 21 for the women
00:36:52The maximum age
00:36:5421 for the women and 23 for the men
00:36:56So it gives a little more opportunity
00:36:58To these couples to be able
00:37:00To gain experience
00:37:02On the international junior stage
00:37:04So those who listened to us yesterday
00:37:06And heard me say that for some
00:37:08This was their last year
00:37:10Forget what I said
00:37:12I didn't consider the change of rules
00:37:14This year
00:37:16With the age that just increased
00:37:20So all these couples that we just saw
00:37:22Will have the opportunity
00:37:24To stay in the junior category
00:37:26And well
00:37:28Maybe that's one of the reasons
00:37:30That Skate Canada decided to send
00:37:32So that all these people
00:37:34Can gain experience
00:37:36And it's really
00:37:38A shame to have
00:37:40Couples in Canada
00:37:42Who stand out
00:37:44In competition
00:37:46And who are of an excellent level
00:37:48But year after year
00:37:50There are injuries that come up
00:37:52During the period
00:37:54Of the dead season
00:37:56During the moment
00:37:58Where we are supposed to be
00:38:00To refine, to increase the level
00:38:02To really look for
00:38:04Even more
00:38:06This moment is so precious
00:38:08In our development
00:38:10But when this moment is synonymous with injury
00:38:12Well
00:38:14It's the re-adaptation
00:38:16Instead of increasing the cadence
00:38:18And do more
00:38:20We just try to find the form
00:38:22In the neutral
00:38:24So it's certain that it has an impact
00:38:26For the future
00:38:28That it has been done
00:38:30In an optimal way
00:38:32And that we can open the machine
00:38:34For the future
00:38:36A placement
00:38:38Very stable
00:38:40Very well done by Martina and Charlie
00:38:44Oh, we see here in the crowd
00:38:46Compatriots
00:38:48Of training
00:38:50Who came to encourage Martina and Charlie
00:38:52From the Academy
00:38:54Of 6A-6 performance
00:38:58Applause
00:39:08Applause
00:39:10Do we see a little more
00:39:12Triple jumps thrown
00:39:14In this second group of warm-up, Charlie?
00:39:16I think so
00:39:18But still
00:39:20Depending on the portrait
00:39:22Precisely of the event
00:39:24And injuries
00:39:26Of 2 of the 3 couples
00:39:28Who will be thrown on the ice
00:39:30It's certain that it changes a little
00:39:32The portrait
00:39:34We know they are capable
00:39:36But after that in the strategy
00:39:38Precisely to be sure to be in shape
00:39:40At the moment
00:39:42Where we want to be at its peak
00:39:44I could not tell you
00:39:46If they will be thrown
00:39:48In the end
00:39:50In all the content of the program
00:39:52With the triples
00:39:54Since we already know
00:39:56In a few days
00:39:58Another competition
00:40:00So it's possible
00:40:02That we want to keep
00:40:04For the next competition
00:40:06So we just announced
00:40:08The last warm-up minute
00:40:12We will have 2 couples from Quebec
00:40:14In this last group
00:40:16The champions
00:40:18In title so far
00:40:20Eva Kemp and Yonatan Elizarov
00:40:22Who will try
00:40:24To repeat
00:40:26The thing this season
00:40:30And the vice-champions in title
00:40:32Also Martina and Charlie
00:40:34They were 2nd
00:40:36At the Nationals last year
00:40:38So it's certain
00:40:40That we will also want to
00:40:42Try to increase
00:40:44The rankings
00:40:46Go get gold
00:40:48Is it
00:40:50Is it their priority
00:40:52In the ideal scenario
00:40:54I'm sure that's what they want
00:40:56Is it in the scenario
00:40:58Of their season
00:41:00Is it their priority
00:41:02I doubt it
00:41:04But they are excellent
00:41:12So we continue
00:41:142nd warm-up group
00:41:16The last 3 couples
00:41:18To start
00:41:20For the free program
00:41:22For the junior couple
00:41:28They were not active
00:41:30In the competition season
00:41:32They break the ice
00:41:34Here in Laval
00:41:36For their free program
00:41:38Martina Ariano-Kunt
00:41:40And Charlie Laliberte-Laurent
00:41:42They train under the direction

00:52:30And
00:52:32to tell us their story, and I really believed it.
00:52:36Ah yes, I believed it and I felt it too.
00:52:39Really, I find that this pair of skaters
00:52:43skates with a really symbolic union.
00:52:48We feel them close to each other,
00:52:50we always know where the partner is,
00:52:54and really, I loved watching these skaters,
00:52:59Noémie and Étienne.
00:53:00Stares and little moments towards each other
00:53:03that are very sincere and authentic,
00:53:05and I think that's beautiful,
00:53:06already at such a young age,
00:53:07to be able to share it, to express it.
00:53:10Yes.
00:53:11And a little earlier, with the other couples,
00:53:16we were talking about the different international assignments
00:53:20and careers for the junior, the sparks that come.
00:53:23Well, this year, first Grand Prix,
00:53:26I have the impression that just the impact of this season
00:53:29for this pair of skaters is going to be very big,
00:53:33and I'm already looking forward to seeing them again
00:53:36at the Nationals next year.
00:53:38I'm sure they will have grown a lot.
00:53:41Here, the triple salchow, launched,
00:53:44beautiful, a nice glide on the landing.
00:53:48Here, we were maybe a little far and out of sync,
00:53:52but really a nice quality in the execution
00:53:54of the triple salchow, side by side.
00:53:58Here, the glide with a change of position.
00:54:02Difficult position.
00:54:04The take with one hand from Étienne.
00:54:11Here is the second star glide.
00:54:14We complete all the rotations with one hand only,
00:54:17with a difficult exit.
00:54:19So we're going to look for level 4 for both glides.
00:54:24Here, the death spiral,
00:54:28which unfortunately, we were only able to get a level 1.
00:54:35The position was not held by the two partners
00:54:39for quite a long time in the rotation.
00:54:41So here we are, we leave points on the table here.
00:54:45But really a beautiful performance
00:54:48by Noémie and Étienne.
00:54:53They were last year at the national championships
00:54:57in 5th position.
00:55:00They had made 126.58 points
00:55:04in the cumulative ranking of the short program
00:55:08and the long program.
00:55:10They had made 79.91 in the free program.
00:55:13Well, it's obvious that it will be above that.
00:55:1889.63 for a total of 139.97.
00:55:26Noémie and Étienne are in third place in the short program.
00:55:31They seem disappointed.
00:55:33We understand them.
00:55:35We had a great time.
00:55:37But when I was talking about levels like the death spiral
00:55:42and that kind of thing,
00:55:44these are not the final components
00:55:47from the trailer.
00:55:49Hey, they've done a great job on that.
00:55:51They did a great job on that.
00:55:52Absolutely.
00:55:56And now, it's loud 2 this day.
00:55:58They are the Canadian champions
00:56:00in the title of last season.
00:56:02They want to do the same thing again today.
00:56:07Ava Kempt, Jonathan Elizarov, their free program.
00:56:11Bohemian Rhapsody.
00:56:41Because I'm easy come, easy go
00:56:45Little high, little low
00:56:48Anywhere the wind blows
00:56:52Doesn't really matter to me
00:56:57To me
00:57:05Mama
00:57:08Just killed a man
00:57:11Put a gun against his head
00:57:14Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
00:57:18Mama
00:57:21Life had just begun
00:57:25But now I've gone and thrown it all away
00:57:32Mama
00:57:38I don't want to die
00:57:41Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
00:58:09I see a little silhouetto of a man
00:58:13Scaramouche, Scaramouche
00:58:15Will you do the pandan pole
00:58:17Thunderbolt and lightning
00:58:18Very, very frightening me
00:58:21Galileo, Galileo
00:58:24Galileo, take a hold
00:58:26Let me go
00:58:28I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me
00:58:31He's just a poor boy from a poor family
00:58:35He's just a poor boy from a poor family
00:58:38Sparing his life from this monstrosity
00:58:43Easy come, easy go
00:58:45Will you let me go
00:58:46Mama mia, mama mia
00:58:48Mama mia, let me go
00:58:49The elder book has a devil for a side
00:58:52For me, for me, for me
00:58:59Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
00:59:04Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
00:59:08Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
00:59:15Nothing really matters
00:59:19Anyone can see
00:59:23Nothing really matters to me
00:59:31Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
00:59:39Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
00:59:49So, we've moved on to a whole other technical register, that's for sure.
01:00:01Yes, the only couple of this event that took place in the triple hang glider,
01:00:09who completed two triple launches.
01:00:12And I was watching…
01:00:13Triple count-and-count jumps as well.
01:00:15Yes, triple count-and-count jumps.
01:00:17And I was watching the program.
01:00:19OK, they all have their level 4.
01:00:21And then the last element, the spiral, the death…
01:00:25I was like, come on, keep going, hold on.
01:00:27And then, boom!
01:00:28We got up too fast.
01:00:30So, I thought it was perfect in terms of level 4, all the elements.
01:00:34But the spiral, the death…
01:00:36We're only going to have a level 2, unfortunately.
01:00:39So, we see them here.
01:00:41It's launched.
01:00:42The triple hang glider.
01:00:44We seem to have had a little bit of trouble on Jonathan's side on the landing,
01:00:49at the reception, in fact.
01:00:51But we did continue to camouflage the little hang glider.
01:01:00Here, the side-by-side jump, with continuous transition movements afterwards.
01:01:05Here, the triple salchow jump.
01:01:09Two triple salchow jumps for Ava,
01:01:13who, at the Canada Skate Challenge last December,
01:01:18had only done doubles since we were back after the injury.
01:01:22And we had as a plan to put the package,
01:01:26to put all the elements of the program only at the national championships.
01:01:30So, we're certainly going to see the points go up.
01:01:36By the simple fact that, well, as we said,
01:01:40here we had two triple salchow jumps, a triple hang glider.
01:01:46And it wasn't a perfect program for them.
01:01:49No, it's…
01:01:50Several small mistakes.
01:01:51It's correct.
01:01:52We can really see, through this year's event among the junior couples,
01:01:57the stake is not to go get all the little points…
01:02:03At the Canadian Championships.
01:02:05To minimize everything.
01:02:06The situation is such that we've had injuries in several people.
01:02:12So, that's it.
01:02:14We place our objectives differently.
01:02:17And health above all, I have to say, really,
01:02:20for both Ava and Charlie,
01:02:25who have obviously had injuries that are a lot of complications
01:02:33and elements to manage in a competition season.
01:02:37Absolutely.
01:02:38And you named it a little earlier.
01:02:40Here, it's a passing competition for teams of this size.
01:02:47And so, I don't necessarily expect this couple to beat their own personal record.
01:02:53And they are also the holders of the Canadian record.
01:02:57But I don't think so.
01:02:59We'll see.
01:03:00So, 99.9, just to say that we don't cross the line of 100 points
01:03:05in the free program today.
01:03:07For a total of 159.39, they easily take first place.
01:03:13And they are crowned Canadian champions again.
01:03:18Yes, with an emotion…
01:03:21A little nervous.
01:03:23A facial expression, a little nervous.
01:03:25But I can totally understand.
01:03:27We know we are capable.
01:03:29This score doesn't represent at all what we are capable of.
01:03:32We come back from injury.
01:03:34It was a step in the rehabilitation journey for the rest of the competition.
01:03:38And the objective is elsewhere.
01:03:40But they win once again this year, in 2025,
01:03:44the national champion title, Ava Kemp and Yonatan Elizarov,
01:03:48with 159.39 points.
01:03:58The next event will be the Junior Women Free Program,
01:04:01starting at 12.25.
01:04:03So, this is the end of our junior couple skating coverage.
01:04:07We just showed you on the screen the summary table of the results.
01:04:13Soon, I will continue the competition with the coverage
01:04:18of the junior women's free program.
01:04:22I will be accompanied by Alicia Pinault as an analyst.
01:04:26See you soon!
