00:16reform after the BNs were named in January the 10th.
00:23Ferocious wildfire in the suburbs of Los Angeles devoured buildings and sparked a panic
00:30evacuation on Tuesday as hurricane-force winds tore through the region.
00:39An investigation continues in Cuba after the explosion of a munitions warehouse in Municipio
00:45Rafael Freire in the province of Holguín.
00:55Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters
00:58in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:59We'll be with the news, stay with us.
01:15In Venezuela, the Presidency of the National Assembly met with President Nicolás Maduro
01:19to notify the executive branch of the start of the 2025-2026 legislative period.
01:26The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said that the democratic challenge of 2025
01:30will be greater than those of the previous year and that it will be an important year
01:35in the country's democratic history.
01:38The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, also announced efforts to speed
01:42up the process of restructuring the National Assembly with community laws that will allow
01:48for a prosperous future for the country.
01:52President Maduro ratified that he will sign a decree to promote a constitutional reform
01:58after being sworn in on January the 10th.
02:04Today the situation is different, but their craziness, their hate, have turned into fascism.
02:15In 2016 we didn't speak about fascism.
02:18I said it then, deputies of the opposition, many of you were part of that coalition bloc
02:27that was victorious.
02:29Today you continue to be part of an important opposition coalition here in Venezuela, and
02:34I respect the differences that exist between us, between our political parties.
02:47Opinion is welcome.
02:50In democracy all is possible.
02:56The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described 2025 as a year of Venezuelans' post-great
03:01democratic challenges as the countries that will be holding non-elections to build up
03:05the nation's future.
03:13This National Assembly fulfills its 5th anniversary this year, and we pose big democratic challenges
03:21this year.
03:25Perhaps we'll be witnessing the most important democratic outburst ever in the history of
03:29our republic.
03:33Because this year, we will be holding 9 elections in Venezuela.
03:42So we live in a country that intends to build up its own destiny, by exercising its freedom
03:47and sovereignty.
03:50The Constitution stipulates sovereignty lies in the people.
03:55Thus the people will demonstrate this year 2025 that sovereignty lies in the people who
04:00exercises it permanently.
04:12The Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned the political and popular moral power that
04:16the Bolivarian revolution has.
04:25We should remember how Venezuela unfortunately began a cycle of pain, of sacrifices that
04:32we call of iron resistance to all forms of cooperation, how they dedicated themselves
04:40year after year to promise the overthrow of the government as if the Venezuelan voters
04:45had elected them to overthrow the legitimate government, in order to replace the legitimate
04:50government with unconstitutional lives, always making the mistake of overestimating their
05:00strength, of misusing their strength, of offering lies, of not fulfilling what they had offered.
05:07And the worst mistake, of underestimating us, of underestimating the immense political
05:13and popular moral power that the Bolivarian revolution has, has had and will have in this
05:1821st century.
05:21A fundamental force to talk about politics and the history of Venezuela in this century.
05:33On January the 7th, work and school life began in Venezuela after the December holidays.
05:38Our team made a tour around the educational centers and the businesses districts of Petare.
05:42Let's see if this is true with our special envoy, Daisy Tuzón.
05:47The Romulo Gallegos School, located in one of the most popular areas of Petare, opens
05:52its doors to welcome students for classes after their Christmas holidays.
05:56Teachers agree that the first days are usually less attended.
06:03It is always usual or normal for students to join the school gradually.
06:07The same happens when they come back from the July-August holidays for the whole holiday
06:11period, and it takes them about a week longer to join the school in September.
06:16In January, it has always been the same, especially when it starts during the week.
06:22In other schools in the area, we verify their gradual return to school.
06:28We continue our tour in Petare, one of Venezuela's most iconic neighborhoods.
06:36This is a residential and commercial epicenter of Caracas, and its streets are always bustling
06:40with commerce, and passerbys are a viable indicator of the country's activity.
06:47In recent weeks, Social Network has shown a distorted reality of the moment the country
06:54is going through, while the reality on the streets is different.
07:01As a Venezuelan, I tell you that this is pressure, more pressure for this population, but no.
07:07We are very convinced that if nothing has happened so far, the 10th will be even less,
07:12and let the pressure go and let him work so that they can see how a country grows.
07:18This year, the authorities are respecting a large influx of travelers to interior of
07:22the country.
07:24It is flowing and that we are all calm.
07:30People are making a fuss and saying things, but no, I see that everything is calm.
07:36They're going around saying they're closed, but I don't know where.
07:39In La Guaira, Jigarote, all is normal.
07:41I went to the beach and everything's open, everything's normal.
07:47It comes a few days before the swearing-in of President Nicolás Maduro.
07:51Let's take a very short break, but remember, you can join us on our TikTok account at Celeste
07:58English, where you'll be able to see news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:02Stay tuned for more news.
