Okita Souji was a member of the Shinsengumi, a group active during the final days of the Tokugawa shogunate in Japan, and was known as a master swordsman.

He became the captain of the first unit of the Shinsengumi at a young age, and achieved fame in numerous battles.

He was particularly beloved by many of his comrades for his excellent swordsmanship and cheerful personality, but he died young from tuberculosis.
