Takenaka Shigeharu was a famous military strategist active during the Sengoku period in Japan, known as Takenaka Hanbei. Born in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture) in 1544, he served the Sengoku daimyo Saito.

Takenaka Shigeharu's name rose to prominence when he captured Inabayama Castle (later Gifu Castle) with a small force, a famous ingenious strategy. This achievement caught the attention of Oda Nobunaga, who welcomed him as his vassal.

Under Nobunaga, Shigeharu played important roles in battles such as the Battle of Yamazaki, and was highly praised for his tactical skill. In particular, his strategic actions with Hashiba Hideyoshi (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi) have been passed down to posterity.

Takenaka Shigeharu died of illness at the age of 36 in 1579, but he achieved many accomplishments in his short life. His tactics and life are often featured in Japanese historical documentaries, and he is remembered as a wise general of the Sengoku period.
