Transcript
00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest MetOvis forecast. It remains very unsettled through
00:06tonight into Sunday across the U.K. as low pressure dominates this area, bumping into
00:11cold air, which is in place across the U.K., turning to snow, particularly across parts
00:15of Wales, northern England, and then pulls away and allows colder air to sink back south
00:19again with wintry showers as we head into Monday. So, an unsettled picture as we head
00:25through a Saturday evening. MetOvis warnings out for much of the country. Snow and ice
00:30across parts of Wales, the Midlands, East Anglia, up into northern England, particularly
00:33northern England could be disruptive as we head through this evening and overnight. Expect
00:38some travel disruption as well as the risk of power outages as well, especially as we
00:43head into Sunday morning. Amber warnings in force here. Up to 40 centimetres of snow possible
00:49across some higher ground. Even to lower levels, we could see 5 to 10 centimetres locally a
00:54bit more. But there will be some areas that will see rain and rain is the main feature
00:59as we head into the early hours across parts of Wales and southern parts of England. Any
01:04snow that fell during the day here will begin to melt as well. We could see the risk of
01:09some flooding. Wintry mix across northern Ireland and southern Scotland, while as much
01:14of central northern parts of Scotland, cold and icy here. Some wintry showers in the far
01:19north, temperatures falling below freezing. Minus 6 to minus 8 across the glens of Scotland
01:24once more for many temperatures around freezing. Just something a little less cold across the
01:30far south and southwest. So, a very unsettled start to Sunday. Disruptive snow as I mentioned
01:36across southern Scotland, northern England in particular. This continues through the
01:40day. So, do stay tuned to the MetOvis warnings and forecast as the situation adapts and changes
01:47throughout. Further rain, which will be heavy across Wales, but a little drier across parts
01:52of the Midlands, central southern England with some showers here. Quite brisk winds
01:57developing. A mixture of rain, sleet and snow for parts of northern Ireland initially, but
02:02trying to become a bit drier across the west and also that reflected across the Highlands
02:09as well with some sunny spells, wintry showers. But further snow across the Moray Firth down
02:13eastern and southern parts of Scotland as well. Icy stretches too. And temperatures
02:19at a large contrast across the UK to the south of this weather front. Temperatures reaching
02:23double figures, 12 to 13 Celsius. Under the snow and rain, 3 or 4 degrees at best. Most
02:29places though, struggling to get much above freezing and temperatures in the glens of
02:34Scotland remaining below freezing for much of the day. As we head into the evening time
02:39on Sunday, this weather system slowly starts to push its way eastwards. Further snow for
02:43a time across northern England, but then turning more showery as we head into the early hours.
02:48This rain band pushes into south-east England, the back edge over the higher ground. We could
02:53see some sleet and snow returning here. Elsewhere, clear spells developing, some wintry showers
02:58in that northerly flow. So expect further icy stretches and temperatures. Again, Townsend
03:04cities close to freezing. In the countryside, Northern Ireland, Scotland below freezing.
03:09Some icy stretches to start Monday morning. A wet start across the south-east, a risk
03:13of some hill snow for a time before this system pulls away. Further wintry showers then pulling
03:19their way southwards through the day on Monday. Some sunny spells in between. Any mild air
03:24that held on across southern counties of England and Wales through the weekend then pulls away
03:30and it's a much colder feeling day here. Temperatures 5 to 8 degrees at best and further
03:34north 3 or 4 degrees in any bright or sunny spells. Again, a few places staying below
03:39freezing all day and that strong northerly breeze continuing. So it is worth staying
03:45up to date with the Met Office forecast through the rest of the weekend into the beginning
03:50of next week. Met Office warnings in place for many areas and they'll continually be
03:54updated as the situation changes. See you again soon.
