Largely dry for most overnight although a few wintry showers still feeding into northern and western coasts. Plenty of clear spells, leading to widespread icy stretches forming in the north and west of the country, with a yellow warning for ice in place, and patchy freezing fog in places. - This is the Met Office Weather forecast for the evening of 03/01/2025. 00:00Hello there, good evening. A very unsettled weekend ahead with multiple Met Office warnings
00:06in force for snow and ice, including some amber warnings. These are mainly across Wales
00:10and northern parts of England. Snow and ice warning issued for Saturday evening through
00:15into Sunday at midday, initially across parts of Wales. Then also a secondary warning across
00:19parts of northern England, once again Saturday evening through until midnight on Sunday.
00:24And multiple yellow warnings in force also for snow and ice, so do stay up to date with
00:28those on our website. For Friday evening though, plenty of clear spells around, that
00:33means temperatures are soon going to drop away, likely seeing widespread icy stretches
00:37to the north of the country where we do have a yellow Met Office ice warning in force.
00:41But even in areas further south, likely to see a sharp frost and also a chance of some
00:45ice here. Largely dry, though we can't rule out a few showers just feeding into north-western
00:50coasts, particularly northern coasts of Scotland where they could fall as sleet and snow, mainly
00:54across hills but perhaps some flurries to lower levels too. So a very cold night on
00:58offer, most towns and cities below freezing. And as I say, chance of some frost and also
01:03some icy stretches by the morning, so do take care if you are out and about. To start on
01:08Saturday though, there'll be plenty of bright sunshine, although it will feel cold. Still
01:12a few showers feeding in around northern and north-western coasts. These once again could
01:17fall as sleet and snow across the north of Scotland. Then we see a change on the way
01:20as this system starts to push up from the south-west, so some heavy outbreaks of rain
01:25just starting to clip into southern parts of Wales, also south-west England and we could
01:29see some sleet and snow falling to high ground here by the time we reach the afternoon. Away
01:34from this though, as I say, there should be plenty of bright weather around. Still feeling
01:37cold though, temperatures widely only around 3 to 4 Celsius, a few degrees higher just
01:42in the south-west as this system starts to push through. Into Saturday evening, we'll
01:47continue to see this system move its way north-eastwards. This is when the Amber Warning
01:51starts coming to force across Wales and northern parts of England. This rain as it falls into
01:55colder air, that could lead to some freezing rain at times across southern parts of England
01:59and Wales, so likely to see quite a lot of ice by the time we reach Sunday morning and
02:03also those outbreaks of snow across northern parts too. Likely more falling as rain to
02:07the far south, snow further north, but there's just some uncertainty as to whereabouts this
02:12boundary is. Plenty of clear skies around Scotland, still a few showers feeding into
02:16the far north, but here once again, likely to see a widespread frost and also a risk
02:20of ice too. So, a very cold morning to start on Sunday and very unsettled, wet and also
02:26some snow in places. Sunday itself remains to be unsettled. We still continue to see
02:32the system push its way northward, once again seeing outbreaks of snow across northern parts
02:37of England and also Wales as this system pushes through, eventually moving up through into
02:41the Scottish borders. The best of the sunshine is going to be across the far north of Scotland,
02:45though still a few showers around coasts and still feeling rather chilly. Remaining quite
02:50cloudy into the south, still could see some outbreaks of rain here, but slightly milder,
02:54highs of around 10 to 12 Celsius, but still feeling very cold in the north, particularly
02:58where we see snow cover. So, as I say then, still plenty of warnings as we head into the
03:05weekend. A chance these could be updated too, so stay up to date on our website and also
03:09our app if you are travelling around this weekend. Bye bye for now.
