00:00Hello, there. Welcome to Sunday evening's weather broadcast from the Met Office. Low
00:05pressure dominating at the moment. We've seen through the weekend heavy rain, freezing rain,
00:10snow and ice across parts of the country. As this low pressure moves away, we see an
00:14increase in wind strengths for a time, gales on Monday. Before then, a calmer picture Tuesday
00:21into Wednesday ahead of perhaps some further rain and snow moving into southern parts of
00:26England and Wales. Something to watch as we get closer to the time. But an unsettled
00:30end to Sunday. So across central northern parts of England, southern Scotland in particular.
00:36Further outbreaks of heavy rain, heavy rain for Wales as well. But over the higher ground,
00:40we see the continuation of snow. We've seen reports of 20 centimetres plus across the
00:45higher ground, across the Pennines. These will continue to build as we move through
00:49this evening and overnight. Further, wintry showers, icy stretches across northern and
00:53eastern Scotland. Some clear spells in the west will allow temperatures to fall below
00:57freezing here and a wintry mix across Northern Ireland as well. Much of central southern
01:02parts of England and Wales mild enough for outbreaks of rain here. The continued risk
01:07of flooding with Met Office warnings in force and Met Office warnings in force for much
01:11of the country as well. So it is worth staying up to date on our website with all the details.
01:16Temperatures for most holding up just above freezing. But any clear spells, particularly
01:20in the north, we'll see temperatures falling as low as minus four, minus five, leading
01:24to icy stretches. So an unsettled start to Monday. Outbreaks of rain and snow, particularly
01:29across central eastern parts of the UK. Brisk winds down the north sea facing coast. Gales
01:34developing, severe gales perhaps for a time across northeast Scotland. Frequent snow showers
01:39moving in here. So there could be further disruption through the day. Icy stretches
01:44elsewhere as well. As we move into the afternoon, some sunny spells developing, but a mixture
01:48of wintry showers, sleet, snow, hail across parts of Northern Ireland down into northwest
01:53England, Wales too, perhaps even wintry over the moors in the southwest. Further south
01:57and east across southeast England here, generally falling as rain. But normally winds for most
02:04feeling quite cold with those brisk winds. Gales around most coastal stretches are making
02:09it feel colder than the numbers suggest. Still just about some mild air holding on across
02:14the far southeast here. Highs around eight or nine. But for the most, again, temperatures
02:19three or four degrees at best. Into the evening time, the low pressure pulls away. So we see
02:23some drier, clearer weather developing across some central southern parts of Scotland, northeast
02:29England. And here, temperatures will fall well below freezing as winds fall light. Elsewhere,
02:34variable amounts of cloud to take us into Tuesday morning. Still wintry showers as well.
02:39Further accumulations possible over the higher ground. Icy stretches developing. Further
02:44meteorist warnings are likely for snow and ice over the coming days. So it is worth staying
02:48up to date. Temperatures, towns and cities falling close to, if not below, freezing.
02:52But well below freezing in the countryside, particularly across the north where the skies
02:57remain clear and winds remain light. So an icy start for many Tuesday morning. Frequent
03:03snow showers. Strong winds still across northeast Scotland in particular. You can see generally
03:09the driest, sunniest weather across parts of Wales, the Midlands, central southern England
03:13on Tuesday. Further west and north, the continued risk of showers. These falling as sleet and
03:19snow across northern and western parts. Most frequent across northern Scotland with that
03:24cold northerly wind continuing. And temperatures, again, three to five Celsius for many. Just
03:30something a little less cold across the far southwest. And then we will see weather fronts
03:37start to push in across southern counties as we head towards Wednesday. So it is worth
03:41staying up to date with the forecast as we get nearer the time. But generally for the
03:45week ahead, it's staying on the cold side. Further snow and ice at times and also severe
03:51frost developing. Temperatures falling well below freezing at night and staying icy in
03:55places during the day as well. So there's a lot going on with the weather for tonight
04:00through into Monday and the week ahead. So if you'd like more information on that, you
04:05can follow us on our social media channels, our YouTube page and also our website. See
04:11you again soon.
