00:00Hello, here's your latest weather update from the Met Office. I'm Marco Britannia.
00:03During the course of the afternoon, we'll see some wet and windy weather across the
00:06south and south-east of the UK. In fact, a wind warning is in force here until 3 o'clock
00:10this afternoon. Wind and rain gradually started to clear away to the south-east. Across the
00:14central slice, we'll see some brighter conditions, but also some wintry showers, some snow, mainly
00:18on the hills here, whereas towards the north, much cold air digging down from the north.
00:22So for Scotland and Northern Ireland, a mixture of sunshine and wintry showers, some snow,
00:26especially across parts of Scotland here, and locally down to fairly low levels as well.
00:30Feeling cold in the north and north-west, temperatures here no better than 3 or 4 degrees
00:33in places. At this stage, we hold on to mild air towards the south and south-east, but
00:37that colder air will also start to push down from the north and north-west, reaching all
00:41parts as we go into the overnight period. So the last of the wind and rain clears away
00:45to the south-east through the evening. The showers across the central slice will also
00:48start to ease overnight. So overnight, showers become mainly confined to areas exposed to
00:53the north-to-northwesterly flow. So northern parts of Scotland there, Northern Ireland,
00:57a few running down through the Irish Sea, and also a few down North Sea coast as well.
01:01Inland areas though, mostly fine, plenty of clear weather, but wherever you are, it's
01:05only very cold. Towns and city temperatures below freezing, and I think in some rural
01:09parts of Scotland, we could be down to minus 7 or minus 8 degrees by Thursday morning.
01:13And icy conditions too, across many northern parts, so start the day on Thursday.
01:18So as for Thursday then, the ice and the snow will gradually start to become more confined
01:22again, towards the north and north-west into the morning. But the showers then feeding
01:26down from the north to north-west as we go through the day, mainly into Scotland, Northern
01:29Ireland, again through Irish Sea areas, down the North Sea coast at times as well. Whereas
01:33across inland parts, after that cold, frosty, locally icy start, plenty of sunshine, but
01:38it won't do too much for the temperatures. No better than 6 or 7 degrees as we go into
01:42the afternoon. 6 or 7 down towards the south-west is into the low 40s in Fahrenheit. Add on
01:47the effect of that north-to-northwesterly wind, and wherever you are, feeling much colder.
01:50In fact, across the north and north-east of the UK here, temperatures feeling more
01:54like minus 5 to minus 8 degrees, so you certainly need to wrap up warm if you're heading out
01:58and about tomorrow. As for the evening, well the showers again will tend to become more
02:01focused towards coastal areas, exposed to the north-to-northwesterly feed there. So
02:06inland areas turning mostly fine, but very cold again, a widespread, quite harsh frost
02:11developing as we go into Friday morning. That's pretty much it from me, but of course you
