00:00Happy New Year to all of us. I am Benison Estareja.
00:05Today is the first day of 2025.
00:08A large part of the country will still have heavy rains due to the different weather systems.
00:13The first one is the Amihan or North-East Monsoon, which brings light to moderate rains here in the north and eastern part of the Northern Luzon.
00:21Here on the eastern side of the Northern and Central Luzon, there is still the shearline or the line where the cold Amihan and hot Easter Lees cross.
00:30The Intertropical Convergence Zone is still affected by the rain in the remaining part of the country.
00:36This is the line where the wind comes from the northern and southern hemispheres.
00:41So make sure that there are still thunderstorms if the house will go out today.
00:45Based on our latest satellite animation, there is no expected storm that will enter our Philippine area of responsibility for the rest of this week.
00:52However, if January arrives, it is still possible that there will be a storm that we will call the first storm, the Auring Storm.
01:00There is a high chance that there will be a landfall if there is a storm every January here in Visayas and Mindanao.
01:08For today, a large part of the Luzon will still have heavy rains.
01:12Especially if there are outdoor activities, it will still be affected by the different weather systems.
01:17Here in Batanes, there is an effect of the North-East Monsoon, with light to moderate rains.
01:21As for the scattered rain and thunderstorms over Apayao, rest of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Bulacan, a large part of Calabarzon, Metro Manila,
01:31almost all of Mimaropa and Bicol Region, it is still because of the shear line plus the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
01:38So be careful of possible floods and landslides.
01:41There are areas near the mountains and the facing Pacific Ocean where there are more frequent floods,
01:47while there are occasional on-and-off rains here in Metro Manila and nearby areas.
01:52Meanwhile, here in Ilocos Region and the rest of Cordillera Region,
01:56partly cloudy to cloudy skies and mostly cloudy skies for the rest of Central Luzon,
02:01there is a chance of dryness and light rains.
02:04For Metro Manila, the temperature is from 24 to 30 degrees.
02:08While for Baguio, it is from 17 to 24 degrees Celsius.
02:13For our fellowmen in Palawan and a large part of Visayas,
02:16we still hope for a generally cloudy weather that is accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms.
02:23Our rains are light to moderate rains, not continuous.
02:27But sometimes, it gets stronger in the afternoon and evening.
02:30So make sure that you have an umbrella and be careful of floods and landslides,
02:34especially for our fellowmen in the summer provinces where there are frequent heavy rains.
02:40Our temperature in Metro Cebu is from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.
02:45And for our fellowmen in Mindanao,
02:48be careful if the residents of Caraga Region and Davao Region go out of their houses
02:53due to the effect of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
02:56While here in Mindanao, there is also an effect of ITCC,
02:59partly cloudy and sometimes cloudy skies in the morning,
03:01but in the afternoon and evening,
03:04a large part of Mindanao will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms.
03:09Our temperature in Metro Davao is from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius.
03:14For now, we do not have a high-level gale warning or a warning for high waves.
03:19But due to the Northeast Monsoon,
03:22we still have up to 3.5 meters of high waves in the Ilocos Region
03:26and in the extreme northern Luzon.
03:29This is still dangerous for small sea vessels.
03:32Whereas for the rest of our country,
03:35we still expect high waves until just in time for thunderstorms.
03:39Only 2.5 meters of high waves can be expected
03:42and we do not expect sea travel suspensions until Friday.
03:47Meanwhile, for our weather advisory or warning for heavy rains,
03:52we have the effect of showers that will bring moderate to heavy rains by tomorrow,
03:56January 2, here in Eastern Luzon,
03:59including Cagayan, Apayau, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon Province.
04:04So be careful of showers, especially in low-lying areas,
04:08and there is also a chance of landslides in mountainous areas.
04:11By Friday, that's January 3,
04:14we still expect strong shear lines or high winds,
04:18possibly up to 200 millimeters of heavy rains here in the province of Cagayan
04:23while there are 50 to 100 millimeters of heavy rains here in Apayau,
04:28like in Calinga and Isabela.
04:31So be careful of floods and landslides.
04:34As a summary for our three-day forecast,
04:37from Thursday until Saturday, January 2 to 4,
04:41we still expect heavy rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Luzon
04:45because of the shear line and a large portion of Visayas
04:48will reach tomorrow due to the intertropical convergence zone.
04:52Those will be heavy rains and thunderstorms.
04:54For a large portion of Luzon,
04:56by Friday and Saturday,
04:58that's when the concentration of heavy rains will be high,
05:01especially here in Ilocos Region, Cordillera Region, Cagayan Valley,
05:05and here in Aurora and Quezon.
05:07We also expect heavy rains in a large portion of Central Luzon,
05:10Calabar Zone, and Metro Manila.
05:12Heavy rains in a large portion of Mimaropa.
05:14So make sure that you still have an umbrella
05:17or a raincoat when you go outside
05:19and always follow our advisories and heavy rainfall warnings.
05:24As for our forecast for now,
05:26we expect that it will weaken
05:28by tomorrow in the extreme Northern Luzon,
05:30but it will gradually increase again until Saturday.
05:32So possible by Friday evening or Saturday,
05:35there will be again a gale warning
05:37or strong thunderstorms and strong winds,
05:39and we expect heavy rains here in the Northern Luzon.
05:41As for the places we haven't mentioned,
05:43here in Visayas and Mindanao,
05:45isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will still be experienced
05:48because of the East Release and ITCZ.
05:52Our sunrise is 6.21 a.m.
05:54Sunset is 5.38 p.m.
05:57That's still the latest from the Weather Forecasting Center of Pagasa.
06:00I am again Benison Estarayano saying,
06:03Happy New Year to all of us
