00:00Vikings beat the Packers 27-25. Late rally to get us the over. Sam Darnold, another huge game.
00:07He was finding everyone for touchdowns except Justin Jefferson on Fox yesterday.
00:25How about this guy this year, Joe? Let me just, I want to tell you what this guy's got.
00:30He has this season, here it is, 4,153 yards, 35 touchdown passes.
00:40Sam Darnold for the Minnesota Vikings. And they're just gonna let him leave after the year
00:48because they have J.J. McCarthy who hasn't played one down of NFL football yet and he's coming off
00:53an e-surgery. They're just gonna let Sam Darnold walk away? I don't know about that, Joe. I don't
00:58know if that, I think the Vikings need to start thinking about altering their plans. As in, J.J.,
01:05you might be sitting for another year or two before you play. You're going the Jordan Love
01:08route with us here in Minnesota. Yeah, and again, I'll say it, coaching matters in the NFL. I would
01:18like to remind people not too long ago on the Carolina Panthers, you had Sam Darnold and
01:25Baker Mayfield on the roster. Just going to let you remember that. And they were absolutely awful,
01:31remember? And now look what happens. Both guys go to organizations that put them in a position to be
01:37successful. And let's not forget, talking about a guy that was a third round overall, third overall
01:43pick there when he was drafted. The problem is he got drafted to the Jets. So, I mean, that was,
01:48we all knew that was going to be a problem. But that's not a problem anymore. I mean,
01:52this guy comes from USC. The idea that we keep expecting him to turn into a pumpkin is usually
01:58what happens with bad run organizations where you can't trust any sustained success. That's
02:05not what we have here in Minnesota. It's time to start trusting Sam Darnold. There is only, Joe,
02:12a small percentage of guys who get drafted, top five, top ten, first round, who are so special
02:21that they can overcome the place that they get drafted to. The majority of these quarterbacks
02:27that get taken in these high positions, they are a product of their environment, of where they go
02:34will set them up. Because it's this Jets, Chicago, Cleveland, you know, there's just places where
02:43these great, you know, these guys are talented. They're just going to a place where the development
02:48isn't there. It just isn't. And you put these same guys with the same talent in the hands of
02:55guys like Kevin O'Connell, and suddenly, oh wow, they look like they did when they were in college.
03:01Here is Kevin O'Connell. He loves Sam Darnold. What can I say about Sam Darnold other than
03:06another big-time performance when his team needed it? Phenomenal moment in the locker room
03:11after the game when he finally made it in there. It was really cool. And I'm just so proud of him.
03:17There's so many things that lead into moments like this for Sam since he became a Minnesota
03:22Viking, just to see how he's ultimately been able to, you know, maximize everything about
03:31his opportunity. And our football team loves him for it. And I've had an absolute blast coaching
03:37him and just so proud of him. Well, Joe, I'll ask you kind of similar to what I asked you about
03:43Tampa. Are you a believer though, for real? Because I've seen this movie before. Now,
03:48they weren't this good a couple years ago when they lost to the Giants at home. But even in
03:53the history of the Minnesota Vikings, I've seen good teams come into the playoffs and suddenly
03:58it doesn't end well for them. Are you a believer that they can, they're going to probably have to
04:04beat both at some point, the Lions and the Eagles to get to the Super Bowl? Now, maybe it's going
04:10to be in their building if they can win next week, but can they get to the Super Bowl? Are you a
04:15believer? If they have home field advantage, they beat Detroit. Yeah, yeah, I absolutely think they
04:25are. And not because, listen, over the years with Minnesota, Carver, it's always been, we always
04:30knew they had offense. The offense wasn't the issue. It was always Zimmer and the defense
04:36where would end up letting them down at some particular point. Now they've got the offense
04:42again, maybe even kicking it up a notch with all those weapons. But that defense, what else can you
04:49say? They're playing, they're a top five defense. There is, they're a better defense than what
04:54Detroit has. And if they go to Detroit and limit them and win that game and get home field
05:00advantage, then yes, they are very much alive and well to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
