00:00A group decided to design a new polymer currency issued by Banco Central
00:06where it is no longer fairies, but animals and plants.
00:11Here is the explanation of the BSP in Jonathan Andal's speech.
00:18It is no longer fairies and leaders, but animals
00:22is the image that can be seen in the new currency issued by Banco Central of the Philippines.
00:26In the new 500 pesos, the ex-President Cory and ex-Senator Ninoy Aquino are no longer married
00:32and the Visayan Spotted Deer has been replaced.
00:34In the 100 pesos, the ex-President Manuel Rojas is no longer the tampok, but the Palawan Pikak Pheasant.
00:40And in the new 50 pesos, the ex-President Sergio Osmeña has been replaced by the Visayan Leopard Cat.
00:47The 1,000 pesos polymer banknote was first issued in 2022
00:51where the World War II heroes Josefa Llanes Escoda, Jose Abad Santos, and Vicente Lim are no longer there.
00:58And the Philippine Eagle has been replaced.
01:00But the Atom Group or August 21 Movement, which was established after the assassination of Ninoy Aquino on August 21, 1983,
01:08is the first time in history that the Philippines' fairies are not included in the design of money.
01:14This is even more shocking in the new society bills issued by the Martial Law, but our heroes and leaders still have faces.
01:21For more than two decades, the family of the dictator has been trying to change history
01:28and erase from our memories the heroes who fought bravely for our freedom.
01:33The question of the group is, do we want a country without heroes?
01:37And is it better to forget them?
01:39The GMA Integrated News is also trying to get the attention of the Malacanang and the Marcos family about this.
01:44But the Central Bank said, for now, it will not leave and will not stop the making of paper money that has the faces of heroes and leaders.
01:53They just want to promote in our money the endangered species of animals and plants that can only be seen in the Philippines.
02:01It will co-circulate so our paper banknotes featuring our Philippine heroes will still be there.
02:06We will put the same importance in our culture and in our history.
02:12And so, both are being honored and celebrated for our banknotes.
02:17I will now hold these new money or polymer banknote series that will be issued by the Central Bank of the Philippines starting on Monday.
02:24Now, let's compare this new 500-peso bill with the old 500-peso bill.
02:29One of the features of this is that it has a see-through window.
02:34It has flowers on one side and the BSP logo and Philippine seal on the other side.
02:39It also has a metallic foil.
02:41Here in the 500-peso bill, it doesn't have that.
02:43It is said that it is harder to see through this.
02:45Next, it has a feature for visually impaired people.
02:49If you touch the top of the 500-peso bill that is new, it has what is called tactile dots.
02:55So, it depends on the denomination on how many dots you can touch on the top.
02:59So, for the 500-peso bill, it has 4 dots.
03:01For the 100-peso bill, it has 3 dots.
03:04For the 50-peso bill, it has 2 dots.
03:06And for the 1,000-peso bill, it has 5 dots.
03:10The texture of the animal that is featured in each denomination bill is also low.
03:16The Central Bank of the Philippines said that these new money made from polymer can be dull, sad, or wet.
03:24We went to the labor market in Manila and asked for the opinion of the vendors there who are always holding money.
03:42But, a vendor received an unapologetic 1,000-peso polymer bill.
03:48From a mom, it only lasted for 3 days.
03:51For the visually impaired, it's just a white dot.
03:55You can't write anything on it. It's not like this.
03:58You can feel it.
04:00Then, for the silver ones in the plastic, there's no 1,000 here.
04:06Then, for the logo, you can feel the Aguila.
04:12Here, there's no laminated plastic.
04:18We brought this to the Central Bank and their office.
04:21We reported the money we were holding to the nearest bank or to the Central Bank so that they can investigate.
04:28BSP admitted that compared to paper money, the cost of polymer banknotes that we imprinted in Australia is more expensive.
04:35But, it's more economical because it can be used for a longer period of time.
04:38BSP said that the standard of changing the design of money is 10 years each.
04:43The New Generation Banknote Series was released in 2010.
04:47Because of this, we want to be more advanced.
04:52For GMA Integrated News, I'm Jonathan Andal.
