00:00If you cross this small stone gate in Hierapolis, Turkey, you risk never coming back alive.
00:06In Antiquity, people thought it was a kind of gateway to hell.
00:11The Romans entered with bulls, in perfect health, and after a few minutes, they saw these animals collapse, as if they had been struck by a mysterious force.
00:20But what is even stranger is that nothing happened to the men, who entered and left without any problem.
00:26Today, studies could provide an answer to this strange phenomenon.
00:30All this would be linked to the size of the people.
00:33The gate, known as Plutonium, from the name of Pluto, the divinity of the underground world, is a stone gate that opens on a small cave of 3 square meters.
00:43But the real danger is what happens below.
00:45Hierapolis is located on a very active geological zone.
00:49And a large crack under the city constantly emits volcanic carbon dioxide, which appears in the form of a visible fog.
00:56During the day, the sun dissipates the gas.
00:59At night, the gas forms a kind of lake on the ground sheltered from the rain.
01:04At dawn, you have to get out of there before it's too late.
01:08This place is particularly dangerous just before sunrise, when the concentration of carbon dioxide, at about 40 cm above the ground, reaches 35%.
01:19This means that birds, bulls and even humans can suffocate and die in a few minutes.
01:26But there is a scientific explanation that makes it possible to understand how the Romans got out of it unscathed.
01:31The concentration of carbon dioxide decreases rapidly with altitude.
01:36Thus, the animals perished while their master, taller and standing, could get out and breathe safely.
01:43Most people cannot stay inside the Fort of Bangar after sunset.
01:48This 16th century site, located about 235 km from Delhi, is considered as one of the most haunted places in India.
01:57During the day, the area is lively.
01:59Visitors cross the main door, once grandiose, to admire the ruins of temples and palaces.
02:05But they will also see this large sign on the door, which warns everyone that access is strictly forbidden after nightfall.
02:13It is probably because at night, according to the inhabitants, you can hear women screaming and crying in this place,
02:19as well as noises of bracelets colliding and strange music.
02:24Others reported seeing shadows and flashing lights in the ruins.
02:28And even having smelled a strange scent.
02:32Yawatano Yabushirazu is a Japanese forest whose access is extremely regulated.
02:38Located in Ichikawa, it is not very vast, extending over a little more than 33 square meters,
02:44and it is mainly made up of a thick plot of Mozo bamboo.
02:48Its location next to a parking lot and modern buildings makes it less intimidating.
02:52But don't trust its appearances.
02:55Since at least the beginning of the 19th century, people say that anyone who enters this forest is doomed to disappear and never return.
03:03Thus, as soon as you arrive, a sign located near the forest informs you of its history and the curse associated with it.
03:11Some rumors evoke the frightening presence of a former samurai lord who would walk in the ravines.
03:18Other legends claim that the forest hides a well without a bottom, filled with toxic gas.
03:24Whether these stories are true or not, today the area is surrounded by stone walls and it is still strictly forbidden to enter.
03:32In a valley named Dark Country Forest in the Connecticut, you will find Dudley Town, but you must absolutely not enter it.
03:40Not only is the land private property since the 1920s, but it is also known as one of the most frightening places on the planet.
03:49This place was colonized for the first time in the early 1740s and many of the first settlers belonged to the Dudley family.
03:56That's why it's called Dudley Town.
03:58A local rumor says that the founders of the city come from Edmund Dudley, a noble Englishman sentenced to capital punishment for treason.
04:06Legend has it that this curse followed the Dudley family from the other side of the Atlantic to America.
04:12This misfortune would be the origin of bad crops, mental problems and several tragic incidents in the village.
04:18Once again, this is just a rumor, because historians have not found any real evidence to support these claims.
04:25Nevertheless, the darkness and sinister atmosphere of the place fueled ghost stories in the 1980s.
04:32This led to many cases of vandalism over the next decade, and because of this, the Foncier owners closed the area to the public.
04:42This old abandoned building was once the luxurious palace of the King Farouk's family, who was the penultimate king of Egypt in 1936.
04:50After the death of his family members, the palace was transformed into a morgue.
04:54Residents of the region claim that today the place is really scary and forbidden to access.
05:00Some people have stated to have seen hazy bulbs and shadows moving, producing strange noises.
05:06One day, a group of children would have entered inside and would have panicked when they discovered that all the doors had suddenly disappeared, leaving them in total darkness.
05:16They would have had no choice but to scream for help.
05:20This Hawaiian island has been banned from access for more than a century.
05:24It is called Ni'au and is the smallest inhabited island in Hawaii, with an area of about 180 square kilometers.
05:32It has about 84 inhabitants.
05:34The island does not have a mobile telephone network, paved roads or electric lines, only solar panels for electricity.
05:42A single family has owned the island since 1964, when a Scottish farmer bought it for $10,000, which would amount to about $250,000 today.
05:53The island has remained in the family, passed on to the farmer's descendants, the Robinsons.
05:58Since then, it has remained private, and its access is therefore very limited and is mainly done on invitation.
06:05The Erdstal tunnels are a network of about 2,000 mysterious underground passages that can be found mainly in Central Europe, especially in Austria and Bavaria.
06:14These tunnels are generally narrow and steep, often just wide enough for one person to sneak in at a time, and are thought to date back to the Middle Ages, perhaps to the 12th century.
06:25What intrigues the most in these tunnels is their reason for being.
06:29Despite numerous research, no one really knows why they were built.
06:34A theory wants them to have been used for storage, but as many of them are below sea level and are sometimes filled with water, it does not seem very practical.
06:44These tunnels have very narrow sections, quite distressing, and sudden falls, which does not seem practical for ordinary use either.
06:52Voies of evacuation, hiding places, places of spirituality, for example.
06:57To make things even more mysterious, no artifact has been found, which makes their reason for being even more difficult to explain and understand.
07:06Since 2019, adventurers can be stopped if they try to climb this rock.
07:12Uluru, also known as Dire's Rock, is now considered a sacred site by local communities.
07:20But the fact that it is also extremely dangerous has probably played an important role in the decision to close it to visitors.
07:27This rock is 348 meters high, or the height of an 80-story building.
07:33The ascent to its top can be very slippery, and temperatures can reach 47 degrees Celsius in summer, which has led to deaths due to dehydration and heat strokes.
07:45An even more frightening phenomenon occurs at the top of the rock just after the storms.
07:50When it rains, small crustaceans that look like tethers and are called triops, hatch in the temporary waterholes and rocky basins of Uluru.
08:00These creatures that look like extraterrestrials are about 7.6 centimeters long and spread their super-resistant eggs all over the place.
08:08When summer rains come, these small creatures hatch and then hatch, feeding on microorganisms and bacteria present in the water.
08:18We still don't know how these strange creatures end up in the ephemeral basins at the top of Uluru, but it seems that the wind carries their eggs there.
