00:05of the Department of Information and Communications Technology or DICT

00:09issued a protection order in the Philippines

00:11to protect the public against the threat of cyberthreats,

00:15especially this holiday season.

00:17This is the center of the news of Rod Lagusan.

00:21This holiday season,

00:23when there are more expenses,

00:25the public is reminded to be careful against scammers

00:29especially when it comes to digital transactions

00:32such as online banking or e-pay wallet.

00:34The common denominator, I think,

00:36the new rule that we should learn

00:38is that as long as there is a link in your text message,

00:42it's a scam.

00:43The CICC has said several times

00:46that there are prohibitions,

00:48the NTC, against including links in SMS.

00:52So, obviously, this means

00:55if there is a link in the SMS, it's a scammer.

00:58This is especially true for scammers

01:00who claim to be a financial institution

01:03by texting a message to a user's inbox.

01:07This is possible using the International Mobile Subscriber Identity Catcher

01:12or IMSI Catcher,

01:13a device that can be a fake cell tower.

01:16So, it's important to remember

01:18not to click the link to avoid being victimized.

01:21In addition,

01:22to counter scammers,

01:24the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center of the DICT,

01:28the private sector,

01:30has launched the Protekta Pilipinas.

01:32This is an initiative to protect the public from cyber threats,

01:36which includes various stakeholders

01:39such as telco companies, financial technology entities, and others.

01:43A large part of its goal

01:45is to carry out a wide-ranging information campaign.

01:48We have to safeguard technology

01:50and at the same time,

01:52ensure that technology works for us,

01:55for the people.

02:16the DICC gave importance to having the technology needed.

02:44and then that's where the victims can escalate their concern.

02:50They can also go direct to other government agencies

02:53that have their own respective hotlines.
