00:00The Christmas markets have been open in Manchester for just under a month now and what better
00:06way to show you some of the best offerings that they've got than talking you through
00:10everything that I've eaten and drank in the first month of the Christmas markets here
00:14in Manchester.
00:15Now it won't be a surprise to know just how much of a range of great food and drink offerings
00:20we've got.
00:21We're sure that you will have seen it all over your social media, so here's what I had.
00:23We started off with the loaded shepherd's pie, they put a full Christmas dinner into
00:28a massive Yorkshire pudding, they load it up with mashed potatoes, cheese on top, lots
00:33of really great thick gravy and cranberry sauce and I was at the Christmas markets with
00:37Adam Lord our editor at the time and we both had a great time sitting down and feasting
00:42and having a wonderful Christmas time, as Paul McCartney once said.
00:46I also had a hot chocolate loaded up for me by Councillor Pat Carney, he's sort of the
00:51Christmas maestro here in Manchester and so it was a real honour to be served by him.
00:56It was perfect, not too thick, not too thin, not too sweet, just exactly what you want
01:02on a cold winter's day and I will be back again.
01:05Then last week I went down King Street and found Ballaro, which is a Sicilian street
01:10food stall.
01:11They had a massive range of arancinis, we're talking options like cheese and ham, a spicy
01:15one which is what I had, they also had some spinach ones and ricotta and a great range
01:19of slices of pizza too.
01:21I got a wild garlic cream pizza which was topped off with really perfect smoky cheese,
01:28some sausage, some mushrooms and it all just worked really well together.
01:32It was sort of a floppy pizza but still had a really crispy base and was a really enjoyable
01:35eating experience and like I say I got the hot arancini and it was perfect, it might
01:39be one of the best things I've eaten all year.
01:42I followed that up with a quick trip to this craft bar which you can find right at the
01:45end of King Street where a half pint of lager costs around £3.50 although you do spend
01:50£5.50 in the first place and get £2 back in cash.
01:54Then this is possibly the most filling item that I've had in the Christmas market, it
01:58was this loaded chicken and halloumi burrito that I had earlier this week.
02:03It's loaded up with aromatic rice, chicken, halloumi, loads of cheese, extra jalapenos
02:09because I like it hot, salsa, guacamole and chipotle sauce and I do not know how they
02:14managed to wrap this up and keep it intact but somehow they managed it.
02:20But like I say it was a perfect eating experience, really easy to eat on the go if you need to.
02:24I managed to make it back to the office and wolfed the whole thing down despite being
02:28absolutely stuffed afterwards and then finally I've made it to Yard and Coop.
02:32They're a Manchester staple, the quality of the chicken and the chips is always top notch
02:36and I had their Santa Tray which was loaded with chicken gravy, hot cranberry sauce, some
02:41parsnip crisps, loads of chips and loads of really great chicken as well.
02:46So that is everything that I had over the course of the first month.
02:49There is still two or three weeks left of the Christmas markets, they close on the 22nd
02:53so I will be packed down to try some more things.
02:56Please get down, give them a go and follow Manchester World for more.
