00:00Adam, the Christmas markets are open. Let's go!
00:03Hello and welcome to Manchester's Christmas markets.
00:05I'm going to show you around the place a little bit, show you what drinks are on offer, show you what food's on offer
00:10and essentially where to go to find the best that Manchester's got to offer.
00:14So we've got ourselves decked out in Christmas attire now.
00:18We'll just do a little walk around the market for you just so that you can see what's on offer,
00:21certainly in the Piccadilly Gardens area.
00:24We started off with hot chocolate dished out by Manchester councilman and Christmas master, Pat Kearney.
00:31It was me, Adam and Sophia there, so it was a nice little chance for us to explore a little bit as a team.
00:37The Christmas markets are obviously a massive deal in Manchester.
00:40They're one of the main events of the year and it feels as though they've gone even bigger again this year.
00:45There's a photo booth but we made a bit of a mess of it to be honest.
00:48Can we get another shot?
00:50Did you get it?
00:53No.
00:54We've still got a nice picture out of it though, so that'll be pinned up by the desk.
00:58And then we set off exploring. You've got tons of great bars.
01:01We're talking stuff like Loaded Fries, Cookie Dough there, Bao Buns, Eat Greek,
01:07which very frequently pops up at these sort of events and is brilliant,
01:10Spanish food, farmhouse kitchens, porkies.
01:13I mean I can keep listing them but you'll be able to see them all.
01:16There are tons and tons of options and bear in mind this is just in the Piccadilly Gardens area.
01:20There's also events going on in St Anne's Square all the way up and down Market Street.
01:25And over the next month and a half we really will do our best to properly explore the whole thing
01:29and give you a really good idea of where everything is.
01:33So there are obviously a plethora of food and drink stands here.
01:37One of the new ones for this year is, I've heard, a Shepherd's Pie Loaded Yorkshire Pudding.
01:43Now as a true northerner you can't go wrong with a Yorkshire Pudding
01:46and the fact that they're loading up a Christmas dinner Shepherd's Pie style thing inside of it is just a dream.
01:52This is what it looked like and let me just tell you it was absolutely lovely.
01:55I got the Christmas dinner one, like I said.
01:57Adam there got the minted lamb one which also was wonderful.
02:02So the markets have been around for a long, long time now
02:05and we got the opportunity to speak to Anja who's been working here for 26 years in a row
02:09to ask her a little bit about what the markets means to her.
02:12I'm always happy to be back. You can see that with a smile on my face.
02:16I love Manchester. I think it's one of the best cities in the whole world
02:20and it's always exciting to be back and a new challenge.
02:25I'm in a good mood.
02:27First of all, you know, we started the whole Christmas marketing on St Anne's Square in Manchester like 26 years ago.
02:36This is also like a baby growing, you know, something where really I'm connected to.
02:42It is really nice. It is always like a good experience.
02:46So that's all for right now.
02:47The Manchester markets are going to be open right through to the 22nd of December
02:50so they're here for ages and ages.
02:52Over the next month and a half, we're definitely going to be along to some of the stores
02:55to learn some more about the traders and what they're offering.
02:58So we hope you want to join us for that as well.
