00:00What was it like for you to watch the game in the stands?
00:10It's not the best feeling to watch in the stands, but in the end it's a fine you get.
00:18I think we all know that's not the result we deserve. I think we deserve much more.
00:24We created a lot of chances. We conceded goals from an easy mistake in the build-up,
00:30from our own goal from Seppies and I didn't remember about any other chance. So that was
00:36very disappointing and the team played very good in possession. I think out of possession
00:42there were some things where we have to improve, but in possession we had good patterns and
00:47we have to be more clinical, more clean enough in the opponent's box. If you're not scoring
00:52in the right moment you get punished.
00:54What was going through your mind when the error was made and what did you make of how
01:04he responded for the rest of the game?
01:09It's football. In the end it's exactly what I demand from Bart, to play out from the back,
01:13to find solutions on the ground. Of course we have to reflect and give him feedback about
01:19the mistakes, but I will never judge him because I'm completely convinced that the players
01:23will improve if they find solutions on the ground. The players will improve also by doing
01:30these mistakes because they will grow as a person, they will grow as a player from these
01:35mistakes. If you don't do mistakes in football there won't happen any goals. We keep working
01:42with him, we keep trying to bring more clarity in these situations and then hopefully it
01:46won't happen again.
01:48Did you feel like the three at the back worked for you, a lot of what we talked about, the
01:52change in formation?
01:53Yeah, it worked.
01:57Jan Voel van Dijk had quite a frustrated reaction when you substituted, have you had a chance
02:04to speak to him or what did you make of his foot kick out?
02:07He's an emotional player and I like emotional players, so that's part of the business. I
02:14think when I got substituted four more times I didn't react better. Every person who plays
02:20football knows that it's sometimes frustrating when you just concede a goal and you get substituted
02:27or when you don't have the best moments in the game and you get substituted. It's not
02:32the best moments so you can be emotional and that's part of the business. He's a good guy
02:38so I don't worry about anything.
02:44Is it a bit frustrating that quite a few of the goals you've conceded this season have
02:49been quite soft goals and the opposition haven't necessarily had to work hard for them?
02:56Yeah, of course it's frustrating but we have to see that we're a very, very young squad
03:01and that's the way from Brighton Football Club, to develop these young players. I'm
03:08sure in two or three years they won't do these mistakes anymore but now we're on the face
03:14where we have to improve them, where we have to help them, where we have to give them the
03:20environment where they can improve, where we allow them to do mistakes. Of course they
03:25don't want to do mistakes but in football mistakes happen and hopefully they learn from
03:29it and hopefully we learn from this as a group and as a team and try to get the results more
03:36and more from game to game, what we deserve. It's just a process we have to keep focusing on.
03:43Can I just ask you about En-Syso as well, he wasn't in the squad tonight.
03:49He did a social media post earlier today and he said,
03:53let no one extinguish your desire to achieve your dream. Is that something you're aware of?
04:02Yeah, for sure I'm aware and Julio is an important player for us. He's a young player,
04:11he has big dreams, he wants to achieve a lot of things and this shows his willingness,
04:17what he wants to achieve. I'm a fan of this but in the end I'm the coach and I need to make
04:23a tough decision. We said it before the season that it will be tough because we have a big squad,
04:31a squad with a lot of potential, a squad with a lot of offensive players and in the end it was
04:38clear that in some moments you need to make tough decisions. Today it was the case that we had to
04:45do it with Julio but again he's a player from us and we will treat him like a player from us.
04:53He's doing good in training and he's trying to keep improving so that's very positive.
05:01One thing I wanted to mention, you talk about young players,
05:04one player that did shine for Bryson tonight was Carlos Belieber.
05:08How impressed are you? He keeps on growing in confidence and a lovely finish tonight.
05:18I'm not the biggest fan to talk about individual performances even when we lose because in the end
05:24of course there are some positive things but Carlos, like I said, there's a big hype about
05:32him at the moment, it's absolutely justified. Now it's important that he stays grounded,
05:36stays humble, keeps working and he's doing a great job so far. I think in some moments
05:41he can also improve, he can still have a big impact on our game and we try to help him but
05:47so far of course we are happy with him.
05:49Three at the back for this game, first few minutes
05:53spells of Bryson looking good and then that mistake happens. Do you think that that
05:58formation doesn't help in terms of those mistakes when a lot of pressure is coming on the players
06:04early in the game and then it's an uphill battle for them to climb back and get a result?
06:09It's difficult to answer because honestly I don't see that the goal we concede happens
06:22because of back three and we created a lot of chances with back three and when we changed
06:28back to back four we didn't create that many chances like we created for back three.
06:32So in the end we missed to finish the attack, in the end we missed to make the goals in the
06:42right moment. That's what Fulham did today, they didn't have any chance so honestly they
06:49shoot goals out of nowhere and you can't say that it's because of back three. I would even
06:54say the opposite, I think we defend quite good because of the back three so there were a lot
07:00of positive things and also in possession a lot of positive things with the back three.
07:06It's good to know that the players can adapt quickly to change the
07:10formation and this will give us flexibility for the next games.
