00:00College football playoff rankings reactions. You know,
00:06as you look at the top 25, what is most important of course is
00:10the top 15 and I would argue who is at 11 and who is at 12.
00:16Alabama as of this moment would earn the final at-large berth to
00:21the college football playoff if things go chalk throughout
00:24conference championship Saturday. That's a big if but
00:28Alabama is in that pole position, not Miami, not the
00:32other two loss, two, three loss SEC teams in Ole Miss or South
00:38Carolina. So, Zeno, the rankings overall, what is your
00:41biggest grievance with what the college football playoff
00:43selection committee displayed on Tuesday night? I mean, again,
00:48it's hard to separate the rankings versus the structure
00:51that they're using. I tweeted this out. Look, I had enough of
00:54this Boise in the four seed crap. Like, this is just
00:58ridiculous. There is no world where Boise deserves a bye,
01:03okay? As the quote fourth best team in the country. They're
01:07not, they're not, they're not even close to it. There's a
01:09dozen teams better than Boise and the fact of the matter is
01:13is that the way the structure they set this thing up is
01:15ridiculous. I have all the respect in the world for SMU
01:18but they're certainly not the third best team in the country
01:20and deserve a bye. Like, that's not what this should be. I
01:23don't know why we have to do this ridiculous system. Rank
01:25the twelve best teams, top four get a bye, end the
01:28conversation. Like, that's really what this is about and
01:31what has been set up from this thing which again, you know, I
01:34don't know if you heard two weeks ago, Steve Sarkeesian of
01:37Texas, Lane Kiffin of Ole Miss had this back and forth. It
01:40wasn't directed at each other but they were talking about
01:42conference championship games and should they matter and is
01:45it more beneficial to play in one versus not play in one.
01:48Penn State and Notre Dame are going to wildly benefit from
01:52not playing this weekend, right? Like, if this is the old
01:56four-team system. Ohio State. Penn State. No, Penn State not
02:00play. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You're right about Penn State.
02:03I'm sorry. Notre Dame and Ohio State are going to benefit from
02:06not playing this weekend, right? And again, think about
02:10what the situation for Penn State playing this weekend. If
02:13they were to play this weekend and lose in last year's format,
02:16they would likely be out, right? Like, this would be an
02:19elimination game for Penn State because a two-loss team
02:22wouldn't get in. Notre Dame would certainly already be in
02:25because they don't have to play this weekend and take a second
02:28loss. This is why I was anti-expansion because again,
02:32these games take less value. These games hold less weight
02:35because it doesn't matter really what happens to Penn
02:37State this weekend. They're going to the college football
02:40playoff. Notre Dame isn't going to be dinged for not playing in
02:42the conference championship game. They're going to the
02:44college football playoff. Well, we've opened the aperture up
02:47and there's this great conversation about Alabama,
02:49Ole Miss, South Carolina, who belongs in and who doesn't. In
02:52reality, the drop off between those teams and the top two or
02:56three is so great. It doesn't really matter in the grand
03:00scheme of things. So, you know, again, I look at this, the
03:03ranking system. I really think they need to get rid of the
03:06automatic bids. I mean, if this is proof of this whole thing,
03:08this is that this is utterly ridiculous because there are
03:11five or six teams that would wax Boise State and SMU and that's
03:15fair. And oh, by the way, I hate to break it to you because
03:17losses actually matter. Boise State's not even the best group
03:20of five team. That's Tulane. And unfortunately because Tulane
03:23lost to the double-digit favorite last week to Memphis,
03:26they're not in this conversation anymore. Remember,
03:28Notre Dame lost to the double-digit favorite to
03:31Northern Illinois, but they did it in the beginning of the year
03:33and Tulane did it at the end of the year and ultimately look
03:36what happens and look what the difference is.
