00:00The timing couldn't have been any better. First Sunday of Advent, first day of the month of December,

00:05a towering pine offering peace and hope rises proudly to brighten up the grounds,

00:10the palace grounds, and the lives of those transfixed by its dazzle and shine, including

00:14the president, his family, and the residents of the surrounding communities of San Miguel, Manila,

00:19fills with joy to ring in the yuletide season. BTV's Clayson Pardilla reports.

00:30The magnificent and brightly decorated Christmas tree at Malacanang

00:36has once again been lit, bringing joy and festive cheer to everyone.

01:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos led this year's annual

01:06Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The president shared a heartfelt and meaningful message

01:11highlighting the importance of love and compassion, especially for those affected

01:16by recent typhoons. It is a joyful time for all Filipinos, but as we celebrate,

01:23all I'd like is to ask you to hold the thought for all those people who up to now are trying

01:32to recover from the effects of the six typhoons that we suffered in 23 days. Many of them are

01:40still in shelters. Many of them are still in need. He also commended the resilience and unwavering

01:48spirit of Filipinos who continue to rise above challenges as the Christmas season approaches.

01:54In his Christmas wish, the president expressed hope and unity for every Filipino family.

02:00My Christmas wish is that despite everything that no Filipino has, every Filipino should feel

02:11somehow Christmas because after all, no matter how many typhoons they throw at us,

02:17no matter how many problems are thrown at us, there's nothing that will quench the Christmas

02:23spirit in the Filipino heart. And every child, man, woman, Filipino, you will not be able to take that away from the Filipinas.

02:33The program also celebrated the winners of the third annual Isang Bituin, Isang Bikin competition.

02:39This nationwide lantern-making contest involving state colleges and universities across the country

02:45honors the artistic talents of Filipinos in creating traditional Christmas lanterns or paroles.

02:51The grand prize winner took home 1 million pesos, a laptop, and other exciting rewards.

02:56Our theme this year is about hope and resiliency. So it's beautiful because the paroles that

03:02everybody, that all the students made. We partnered with the PTEP Ed this year.

03:06Adding to the festive atmosphere was the enchanting Puso ng Pasko, a one-hour ballet performance by

03:13the Alice Reyes Dance Company, made even more magical with the music of Maestro Ryan Cayabia.

03:19My experience here is really, really good. So, dun po sa ballet, I really liked it because my

03:27sister also dances and also I felt the spirit of Christmas.

03:34Sobrang ganda po ng performance ng mga tao kung nag-perform sa stage. Sobrang ganda po. Sobrang napakanga po nila ako.

03:41The event also featured a special Christmas carol performance by the iconic Father of

03:46Christmas songs, Jose Marie Chan, joined by acclaimed Filipino theater actress, Carla La Forteza.
