00:00Our sports banter teammates that we will be with live, we will be with them here in the studio.
00:05They are the beauties, Ms. Celeste Apa, Fundraising Manager and Good Neighbors Philippines.
00:13And Ms. Tina Rama, PR and Communication Officer, Good Neighbors Philippines.
00:18Ma'am, good morning and thank you very much for your time.
00:23Thank you for having us.
00:24Alright ma'am.
00:25Ma'am, for everyone's knowledge, can we ask what is Good Neighbors and what is the goal of this organization?
00:37So as mentioned, hello, good morning everybody.
00:41I am Tina Rama from Good Neighbors Philippines.
00:44So we're actually a non-profit organization founded in South Korea in 1991.
00:49And then in 2008, we came here in the Philippines to serve the Filipino vulnerable communities here in the Philippines.
00:58Alright, but ma'am, can you elaborate on our goal or mission or objectives here in the Good Run?
01:06I believe we have a competition, right?
01:10A Good Run, a sports event, right?
01:12The Good Run.
01:13Can you tell us what is it all about?
01:17So on November 24, in UP Diliman, we had our first ever race event, the Good Run 2024.
01:26The goal of this, of course, is to inspire, unite, and create lasting change and impact in different communities.
01:33So through the Good Run, we really aim to bring different good neighbors together
01:38to strengthen and champion the strengths of our communities that we work with.
01:45And also, to ignite the commitment of people to social responsibility,
01:50which we believe though, we saw throughout the race,
01:55because the people were really engaging with each other.
01:58It was a race event, but they were cheering for each other.
02:02So we were able to really unite people, hopefully, through the race event.
02:09I think it's a very beautiful thing that people enjoyed the race.
02:14In addition to that, what inspired you to make sports a positive change in the community?
02:29I think sports in general, because it has the power to unite people.
02:34Regardless of your age, where you're from, what your abilities are, sports really is that inclusive.
02:41And in the same way, our goal for community development is that it should be inclusive,
02:48that no one should be left behind in our vision for a better world.
02:52So through sports, we were able to do that.
02:55Through sports, we were able to unite different people,
02:59because we have children who ran 500 meters.
03:0410 kids.
03:06Small kids.
03:07Small kids who really ran.
03:09And different ages, we have registrants who are 50, 56 years old and above.
03:14Seniors.
03:15Seniors.
03:16Participates in events.
03:17Yeah, and we also have representatives from children with autism.
03:22With disabilities.
03:23Spectrum disorders.
03:24Spectrum disorders.
03:25So it's really inclusivity.
03:27So regardless of where you're from, what your age is, sports really is for everyone.
03:32And our goal as well, our vision for a better world, good change for the world, it involves everybody.
03:38So through sports, we were able to, hopefully, we were able to give that message to people.
03:45Yes.
03:46Ma'am, is this The Good Run?
03:48How many people participated last November 20?
03:51Roughly 900 to 1,000 runners.
03:53Because it's not just runners.
03:56There were also parents who participated in our The Good Market,
04:00who were just supporting their children.
04:02Then they listened to our advocacies, our programs,
04:07because we also invited our sponsored children and our other beneficiaries who came from a far place,
04:14from Bulacan, just to support.
04:17So there were family runners in The Good Run 2024.
04:21Wow, they really came together.
04:23That's why it's called The Good Neighbors.
04:25Very good.
04:26Neighbors.
04:27That's what it is.
04:28They also want to be neighbors.
04:29That's why.
04:30I hope we can.
04:31I can.
04:33What are our upcoming activities, ma'am?
04:36Do we still have next sports run events or whatever?
04:42Actually, this isn't our first time.
04:44Because in 2023, we also had our shooting star.
04:47It's a basketball.
04:50We were able to invite different public schools in Rizal.
04:54The kids there, the MVPs who won, with their inspiring stories,
04:59we were able to provide them with monetary help and support
05:04to support their passion in basketball.
05:07So that was our first time.
05:09And now we had The Good Run 2024.
05:11And next year, hopefully, we'll have another Good Run for 2025.
05:17Alright, ma'am.
05:18Can you elaborate on our next tournament next year?
05:22Do we still have sports events like The Good Run?
05:25Yeah.
05:26Actually, our goal is to do The Good Run every year
05:29because it was really helpful for Good Neighbors.
05:32Since we saw the success of our recent activities,
05:37we wanted to leverage that to amplify our campaigns and advocacy.
05:42Hopefully, we'll have more participants.
05:45Yes.
05:46Alright.
05:48How do our participants and individuals get involved?
05:54Actually, at Good Neighbors Philippines,
05:56we offer multiple winning ways for individuals and even companies to get involved.
06:01So our opportunities range from skill-based opportunities
06:05and even community, hands-on community engagement.
06:08So if you are a professional with expertise in the areas of education,
06:12health, environment, disaster risk response, and livelihood,
06:16we encourage you to work with us because we do capacity building workshops in our communities.
06:23And of course, we offer hands-on engagement.
06:26So we also invite volunteers to our field activities and community events.
06:32So those are our volunteer opportunities.
06:34Ma'am, I have a question.
06:37Anyone from you can answer this.
06:39Where do we get our funds from?
06:43In Good Neighbors, where do we get our funds to help other people?
06:49Actually, in Good Neighbors, since we mentioned that we are an international organization,
06:54so our sponsors, we have sponsors from Korea.
06:58So they give funds to different field countries that implement programs and services.
07:05And also, here at Good Neighbors Philippines, we also do our local fundraising.
07:08So we partner with individuals, we partner with companies, corporate foundation, and even government.
07:15They entrust us, they support our programs and services.
07:18So that really helps us to continuously provide services for our community members.
07:24Alright, that's very well said, ma'am.
07:26But here, ma'am, what is the reason we established Good Neighbors?
07:34But what is the reason we established Good Neighbors here in the Philippines?
07:47So as we mentioned in 2008, when Good Neighbors came, we started helping during the typhoon,
07:53the affected communities by that time.
07:56I think here in the Philippines, our goal is really community development.
08:00I think that's why also we started the Good Run, in building really a community of runners.
08:06Because our goal is really community development.
08:09Because the change that we envision for the youth, for those who have dreams,
08:15even the young athletes who are dreaming, it requires a holistic approach in supporting their dreams.
08:22So if you have a dream to become a basketball player, you need support from your community.
08:28For example, if your place is vulnerable to disasters or your family's condition is vulnerable because of financial problems,
08:38so that's what we want to work on.
08:40Economic development, ensuring that the communities are safe through our anticipatory action and other disaster resilience projects.
08:49It's really a holistic approach, so it takes a whole community, a whole Good Neighbors.
08:56Good Neighbors to make it happen.
08:58It's also good that we incorporate sports events in our plans.
09:03Alright, thank you very much Ms. Celeste Apa, Fundraising Manager of Good Neighbors Philippines
09:10and Ms. Tina Rama, Communication Officer of Good Neighbors.
