00:00The revolution of the aviation sector, turning it into one of the most difficult areas to decarbonize, has a model of environmental and economic sustainability.
00:11This is the mission of the annual Congress of the Pacta Foundation, a pact for the decarbonization of air transport, held today in Rome.
00:18The event has brought together figures from the sector, from airline companies to aircraft manufacturers, from airport managers and actors to large energy companies, in front of regulatory bodies and institutions.
00:29In particular, we are aiming not only at increasingly efficient aircraft, but also at sustainable fuel for aviation, primarily biocarburents,
00:38which will be available in sufficient quantity, perhaps even more than sufficient, for the first stage, that of 2030, that Europe imposes on us,
00:46about 6% of SAF in the tanks of our aircraft, but above all to invest in what will come next.
00:53In 2035, this goal is more than triplicate, there is a need for industrial policies that favor production and also encourage the use of these carburents,
01:01as well as research and development on second-generation synthetic carburents.
01:06Finally, the Foundation is increasingly valuing what is emerging as another very effective lever for the fight against climate change,
01:16as well as the carbon removal, that is, the removal of CO2 and the capture, which will certainly be an increasingly important and essential lever to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement in 2050.
01:31Moreover, this is also a project in which Italy is distinguishing itself, with the great Agile Venture project between ENI and SNAM, one of the largest projects in terms of capture and storage of CO2.
01:43The Congress also highlighted the reflections on the transformation of airport stairs into sustainable hubs,
01:47from the decarbonization of operating facilities to the easing of energy efficiency interventions, through the optimization of air traffic.
01:54The generosity of the SAF is not an opinion, it is a fact that still today constitutes a preclusive barrier that must be overcome or resolved in some way,
02:03because the SAF itself constitutes today the only technological solution that we have available,
02:07in addition to militarism on the transport of hydrogen and other forms that are not currently feasible.
02:12It is clear that we must support it, but not support it with policies of penalization but of incentive,
02:17which evidently must be adopted in a European way, as the United States and Great Britain are already doing,
02:22but not with a logic that in our opinion is that of the ETS, which in reality is not fully shareable, but on the contrary, with a logic of priority and incentive.
02:31Among the proposals, measures to encourage investment in green energy,
02:34including electrochemical storage systems and the hydrogen and biomethane supply chain,
02:38for the integration of airport and industrial systems.
02:41By 2050 we will arrive with the current motorization and therefore the only fuel compatible today,
02:50which guarantees a target of zero decarbonization with marginal compensation,
02:57which is biofuel, which evidently today has an excessive cost,
03:02but we trust that technology by 2050 will guarantee us a compatible price,
03:08clearly with environmental sustainability, but also with economic sustainability and social sustainability.
