00:00Nearly 80 million people are expected to travel 50 or more miles for the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.
00:07Now that is according to AAA, and the majority will do so by car.
00:11So if you are one of them, AAA is offering up some safety tips before heading out.
00:16Drowsy driving is a big problem and especially over the holidays when people, let's say they want to get to their destination
00:23so they're gonna drive all night to get there. If you're gonna be driving during a time of day that you're not used to being
00:28awake, you're going to get sleepy behind the wheel. Also, we're indulging in a lot of rich foods and having a heavy meal and then
00:35getting behind the vehicle, you're gonna get drowsy. So be mindful of those things.
00:41Good advice there and things to keep in mind as you head out for your holiday trip. And speaking of
00:46Thanksgiving and looking forward to what the conditions are gonna be like here heading into Turkey Day,
00:50here's the overall setup across the lower 48 for Thanksgiving. Some colder air to the north,
00:55we'll even see some snowfall across the higher elevations of the Rockies.
00:59However, it's gonna be this stretch of weather here across the East Coast and the Midwest primarily. To the north
01:05we'll see some rain transitioning to sleet, transitioning to snow.
01:09Snow as far west as Kansas City through Chicago and New York and below that here
01:14we're gonna see some rainfall across the Carolinas and across the southeast and the Gulf Coast.
01:18We're gonna see some showers and thunderstorms, especially across the Mississippi River Valley.
01:22So heads up for that for your Thanksgiving forecast. Highs on Thanksgiving,
01:26it is going to feel like late November for sure for a majority of the lower 48.
01:31Temperatures, the highs will be in the 20s across the northern plains. If you want mild conditions,
01:35you have to go down to the Gulf Coast. We'll see a mix of 70s and yes,
01:38of course, even some 80s across the state of Florida. So here's the storm track that we're watching out for next week.
01:43This will be the overall track for the chance of rain. We'll have more coming up on AccuWeatherhead in just a bit.
