00:00We're backstage at the 58th Annual CMA Awards with one of our performers for the evening,
00:06Mr. Eric Church.
00:07How are you?
00:08I'm good, Katie.
00:09How are you?
00:10I'm doing great.
00:11Thank you so much for being here.
00:12You know, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, you have stepped up in just about every way
00:14imaginable to help those who are most affected, including with the Concert for Carolina, which
00:18raised almost $25 million.
00:20What were some of the highlights for you from that night?
00:22That was just a special night to see all the people, especially being in Charlotte and
00:26being in my home state.
00:27I live half my year in western North Carolina, and those mountains mean so much to me creatively,
00:33but also as a person.
00:35And to be there and see that togetherness that happened, to have James Taylor and Luke
00:41and myself and Billy Strings, it was just a special night.
00:43Yeah, incredible.
00:44And then you've also announced that you are going to be donating 100% of the proceeds
00:48from Darkest Hour to those who are affected for years to come, because this, like we've
00:52talked about before, is going to be a very long process.
00:54Forever.
00:55Forever.
00:56I mean, we gave the song to the state, and beyond that, I realized pretty quick with
01:00the funds that we had raised, that the biggest problem that we have in this country, we do
01:04a pretty good job at the immediate 911 need of food and water and diapers, but we don't
01:11do as well with keeping people in the community from a housing perspective.
01:14So we committed to putting 100 homes in Avery County, which is one of the county's hardest
01:19hit, and that's been the big focal point.
01:23And Darkest Hour has helped raise the awareness and keep the attention, because we tend to
01:27move on as a society, and those people are going to need help for a long time.
01:31So it's more of an anthem, and part of the reason I'm doing it on the CMAs is to keep
01:36the focal point on those people still need help, and I need their help.
01:39Yeah, of course.
01:40And I'm sure you've heard some of the most heartbreaking and unbelievable stories from
01:44people who have been on the receiving end of your help also.
01:47Right.
01:48But there's still so much need there, and that's what we've committed to, and we're
01:52going to do as much as we can to help the people that lost everything in Washington,
01:56North Carolina.
01:57Which is really incredible.
01:58Eric Church, thank you so much.
01:59We can't wait to see this performance tomorrow night on the CMA Awards.
02:01Thanks, Kate.
02:02Good to see you.
02:03Thank you, you too.
