00:00Gabungan Party Sarawak is unlikely to sever ties with the unity government, even if the
00:07dispute over oil and gas rights in Sarawak remains unresolved, say analysts.
00:13University Malaya's Awang Azman Pawi dismissed GPS Assemblyman Hamzah Brahim's warning of
00:18a potential downfall of the unity government as merely a populist statement.
00:24Hamzah recently criticized Petronas for its push-and-pull approach in finalizing a gas
00:29distribution deal with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad and warned Putrajaya that Petronas' pride
00:35and greed could threaten the stability of the Madani government.
00:39Awang Azman said a professional official representative would not label others with terms such as
00:44proud or greedy.
00:46He said while it is natural for Sarawak to want to strengthen its oil and gas rights,
00:51it would not want to risk jeopardizing ties with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
00:56Meanwhile, Jayom Jawan of University Malaysia Sarawak said GPS is unlikely to leave the
01:01unity government even if Petronas does not budge.
01:05He said this was because the Sarawak government has been a partner of the federal government
01:09since 1963 and its representatives at the federal level lack the experience of sitting
01:14on the opposition bench.
