00:00 An analyst said Perikatan Nasional will need to focus on administrative issues over racial rhetoric if it intends to win Selangor in the 16th general election.
00:11 Awang Azman Awang Pawi of University Malaya said this would be key to winning mixed and urban seats, especially where voters are less inclined towards campaigns based on racial and religious issues.
00:23 He said voters, including Malays and especially the moderates in urban areas who are politically aware, will not accept approaches based on race and religion forever.
00:33 On May 26, PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party was aiming to secure Selangor, Perak and Pahang in GE16.
00:42 Meanwhile, Azmi Hassan of Academy Nusantara said PAS knew that Selangor was not as easy to win as Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis, which have many Malay voters.
00:54 He said this was because Selangor was more balanced and its Malay population has a different mentality compared to those in the four states currently governed by PAS.
01:04 Despite PAS needing more non-Malay support, Azmi said the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election showed that voters' attitudes towards the party had not changed much as it is seen to be extreme.
