00:00Hey, good morning up there. How are you guys doing? All right. Well, they hung with them somewhat yesterday the New England Patriots
00:07Yeah, you know what? I am. I think you found a quarterback of the future. That's the good news
00:12you know, he
00:14He's impressing everybody including Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay
00:19I'm sure you guys saw some of the stuff that they were saying about Drake May after the game and it's real
00:23They saw it in real time. They could feel it, you know watching the game. I never felt like the Patriots out of the game
00:29I always thought they were in the game
00:31And then if you play the Rams the worst possible scenario happened to the New England Patriots
00:36They both of those wide receivers were healthy
00:38Both of those wide receivers were productive and Matthew Stafford had probably his best game of the year
00:44This is probably a rookie coach thing. But do you feel like at times Gerard Mayo is too conservative?
00:52You know, he's defensive in nature. Think about that for a second. So
00:56This is why it's not that I'm against defensive head coaches
00:59I'm not I think they bring a level of intensity to the team offensive coaches tend to be a little bit different
01:05Depending on who that coach may be but I do think that young defensive coaches tend to be conservative
01:13There's no question about that. That's not a knock against them. That's they're learning too and he's learning too
01:18So just like his young quarterback, he also doesn't want to put his young quarterback in a bad situation either
01:23So I I there is a there's a tendency to be conservative yes
01:28Boomer when you look at yesterday's game clearly the Rams show you what it's like to have two top tier receivers in New England
01:37Drake May needs a guy it's pathetic when you start to look at the talent
01:41He's surrounded with and just how desperate of a need of a wide receiver. He is well Kendrick Bourne
01:48You know wasn't bad yesterday. I didn't think and again
01:52You're playing with a rookie quarterback who's experienced a lot of the stuff for the first time and some rookies handle it better than others
01:58Like Bo Nix threw four touchdowns yesterday against an Atlanta team that basically gave up in the middle of the game
02:03But I would say that it's only going to get better for him. He'll make other players better
02:08I can tell that he has that in him that he is going to elevate the players around him
02:13So they I'm sure that they will be looking for a wide receiver this offseason T Higgins would be a good target and free agency
02:19I think you know if you watched him last night with the Bengals you could see that he's a top-end wide receiver
02:24I'm sure that you can draft a wide receiver second third round and get a top-end player as well
02:30I think that's what they've tried to do over the last few years, but yeah, there's no question now comes the hard part
02:36I should say the harder of the or the easier of the hard parts and the first part is the quarterback
02:43You got that guy now you got to get the you know team around him and by the way
02:47You know finally an offensive line that actually had two games in a row back-to-back, and maybe that helped as well
02:54Boomer when it comes to that final interception for Drake. He said he and DeMario Douglas weren't on the same page
02:58Do you put that blame more on Drake or more on DeMario? I think it's more on Drake
03:03It's his decision, but it's a learning experience
03:06Courtney I just I know people are get tired to hear me saying this but these kids are realizing things for the first time
03:13They don't realize how good the athletes are in the secondary how smart they are
03:16How they dupe you into doing things and they have to learn and they have to deal
03:21Through a failure before success, I think
03:25He's had enough success to where he's his confidence is not lost
03:28That's that's the thing like when you watch young quarterbacks. You can see guys losing confidence pretty quickly
03:33You could see it in their body language. I don't see that in Drake at least right now
03:37I don't see it as a matter of fact. I see the opposite. I see a guy that's engaged on the sideline
03:41I see a guy that's engaged on the field. I see a guy that has gotten a lot out of his teammates
03:46You know counter that to a 41 year old quarterback who's down here in New York and you watch him and it looks like he doesn't
03:53Even want to be here. So
03:55So I see two ends of the spectrum, right?
03:58Wiggy doesn't want to hear it. But during the Fox halftime show how he long was crediting may
04:05Sitting the first five weeks for how well he is playing now
04:10You know that well if I'm gonna be consistent because I know what he doesn't want to hear this if I'm gonna be consistent
04:15That's exactly what I was saying about Jacoby Brissett starting those first five weeks
04:20About how letting him sitting and learning and watching was going to be something that was gonna be good for him
04:25He probably didn't like it. I know what you didn't like it. I'm sure other other fans out there didn't like it
04:31but
04:32When I look at this
04:33I see a young quarterback that has no idea what he is stepping into and even though guys like Bo Nix
04:40Stepped up and played well and Cal Williams has had moments and Jaden Daniels has had his moments to me
04:47Right now I would put Drake May up there with I would say Jaden and Bo Nix
04:52With a really good understanding of what his responsibilities are and how he's supposed to be playing and I think Cal Williams
05:00Maybe you know came out of his funk yesterday and a loss to the Packers in which they should have won because he got him
05:04Into a field goal range and they and they end up having a field goal attempt blocked
05:09Boomer I have to say I thought this was a successful season. No matter what if Drake May was good
05:15Yesterday cracked that for me because that was the easiest thing to do
05:19You're sitting at three you are gonna take whichever quarterback landed in your lap
05:23They're lucky Drake May appears to potentially be the best everything else sucks on this team
05:29the way the way that Gerard Mayo coached yesterday was atrocious the way the the the receivers are like
05:36Shocked to see a football like it's the first time like you're chucking an egg at somebody
05:42It feels like that they have this
05:45Massive work ahead of them and I just don't know if I trust Elliott Wolf to be the guy that builds a roster that's capable
05:50Of winning with Drake May. Well, we're gonna find out man
05:53All I can tell you is that man you sound just like a giant and jet fan
05:56I feel like I've been going through a psychosis with all these different fan bases
06:01I will say that yes, they they they got a lot of building to do
06:05There's no question about it, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The one thing I can't dispute though
06:10I can't dispute the the intensity the competition level
06:14I can't dispute that I can dispute the lack of playmakers and the fact that they have to rebuild this roster
06:20There's no question about that. Like I said, they a hard parts done the quarterbacks there now they got to build around him
06:25And I know it's a hard hard to go through this season
06:28but you know openly and honestly week one we talked about what the
06:32Expectations were for the Patriots and this was after they beat the Bengals and I still said that I didn't think that they were a
06:37Playoff team. I think it's gonna be a long year and there's gonna be a lot of headache and heartache going through this year
06:43So I'm not surprised by any of this and this will be Elliott Wolfe's, you know
06:47Crowning achievement or he'll be looking for another job this time next year
06:51well, once again, there will not be an undefeated season for the Kansas City Chiefs and I
06:56You look at the AFC championship game if it ends up being those two has your mind changed at all about who wins it
07:04Oh, man, I'll tell you what Josh Allen's amazing. He really is
07:08It depends. I think where that game is going to be played now Patrick wins in the playoffs
07:13Josh wins in the regular season when these two teams meet, but I do think that Josh Allen's a very special player
07:19You know, he was playing without us to top wide receivers yesterday
07:23You can see what he could do when he starts running the ball all over the place. I just think he's so special
07:29I think Patrick special to don't get me wrong, but
07:31Josh really elevated his game yesterday. I hope well, you know, I hope the Bengals make it because I think they're a real exciting team
07:38They're not out of it yet
07:39They're four and seven but those two quarterbacks on the field and an AFC championship game is a dream come true for CBS
07:46There's no question about it
07:47Well Boomer you remember you and how we are from a different era of football you guys sat for years and years before you got
07:53playing time so when you think of the
07:57Cincinnati Bengals, I always say this Jamar chase. I don't know if you see what saw what he said after the game
08:04There's no way that he and Zack Taylor could potentially be there next year
08:10So do you I asked the question is there any chance Cincinnati moves on from this guy or do we see?
08:16Potentially a new head coach in Cincinnati. I I
08:19Personally don't see it. That's not the Brown family way of doing thing. They're they're the ones who own the the Cincinnati Bengals
08:26I think they'll give Jamar chase the huge contract. He's gonna deserve
08:29I think T Higgins is gonna move on via free agency because they won't play both wide receivers
08:34I do believe that Joe Burrow loves Zack Taylor. Their defense is really
08:40Falling apart this year. That's that's how I would put it for them
08:43Their offense has been great, but their defense has been really really suspect especially their past defense
08:48So I think it's one side of the ball
08:50I think that they're gonna have to redo their defense in some way shape or form next year
08:54They're gonna have to either add or you know
08:56Do something in the draft where a lot of it's gonna be defensive players their offense is really good
09:00I mean they're off their offensive line, by the way is like bottom third in the NFL and Joe Burrow still puts up these crazy
09:07Numbers, so I think Zack Taylor still there next year. I personally would endorse him to stay there
09:12I just think their defense has been a disaster
09:15Question of the week for Boomer science and brought to you by McFarland energy
09:18The region's most dependable provider of home heating oil delivery and expert HVAC services find them at McFarland energy
09:26Calm does Doug Peterson survive the day?
09:30and if not
09:32Due to his relationship with the GM if the GM survives, is that a Bill Belichick destination?
09:38You know what shot Khan is a big-money guy. They're building a new stadium down there. I could see him
09:45going any which way I
09:47Wouldn't surprise me if Doug ended up losing his job today
09:49I mean that was a disgrace yesterday
09:52And I know that they were playing with their backup quarterback and Mac Jones was horrendous and Detroit steamroll and everybody by the way
09:58So that that wasn't surprising but I would not if you told me today that shot Khan decided
10:04Doug Peterson and or tread bulky are out. It would not surprise me at all
10:09Can I just ask a blanket question? Because what's going on with the kickers across the league, especially the AFC North?
10:15Is it a talent thing? It feels like kickers are just not what they used to be
10:19Well, Chris, what Boswell kiss kick six field goals yesterday?
10:23And that was a hell of a game between the Steelers and the Ravens
10:26And Evan McPherson was terrible at the end of the game for the Bengals
10:29He had an opportunity to get them, you know, obviously they could have won the game had he made it a couple of his field
10:35Goals, but I don't know. It's a weird thing Courtney. I think it just goes, you know, it's cyclical
10:40You know, they're the one thing I will say a lot of these kickers are booming 50-yard or more
10:45Kicks like with regularity now, which I didn't you know
10:49We didn't see that back in a day was maybe one or two kickers across the league that can hit those kicks
10:53Now it seems like every team has a guy that can actually hit a 55 or 60 yarded to win the game
10:58except for New England
11:0220 years you guys had everything
11:04You had the coach the quarterback the kickers. Yeah a defensive a hall-of-famers
11:10You had everything and now all of a sudden you're all complaining after three years
11:15Yeah, I was just gonna just end with with this simple one
11:19Where do you think the Brady Mahomes?
11:23Battle is today. It's been something percolated on local radio here in Boston last week
11:28Obviously Mahomes has three how many titles do you think Mahomes needs?
11:32To actually be in the conversation as the potential goat at quarter
11:36I mean if we're gonna do that, I would say at least three more
11:41You know and he could get three more. I mean, you know, he's young enough and he's
11:45Vibrant enough that that could happen. I could see that and he's got a great coach
11:48and it reminds me a lot of the Patriot Dynasty when you think about it when you said when you think about him and Andy
11:54Together and everything that they've done and kind of like what they've gone through in terms of their roster development
12:00How the defense has taken over the last couple years, you know, they they're gonna have to get them some more offensive playmakers
12:06But I would I would say maybe three more before we get to that to that level of brilliance and greatness of Tom Brady
12:13Boomer as always great having you on just like your quarterback down there
12:18We there were a lot of questions and you didn't throw any of them away. So
12:22We we really we really we really appreciate it. We'll talk to you next week man. This is a long season, isn't it?
12:32Is he there next year
12:34Yeah, that's a good question. That's the salary cap and the contract tells me. Yes. The question is who is the coach?
12:40I want John Gruden the coach here. I really do. Yeah, I really do
12:45I mean, I they need a personality the Jets, you know when they were really good. They had Rex Ryan. He was a personality
12:50I know he's a pain in the ass to everybody else. But here in New York, he was a personality
12:55He gave that team some life. He gave that team a leadership
12:58I think John Gruden would do that now
13:00The question is is what Aaron Rodgers and John Gruden work together. That would be interesting. Oh, I love that for radio
13:06Yeah, great for you, right? Yes
13:09All right. Thanks Boomer. Have a great week guys
