00:00Some residents of Marikina are now preparing for the possibility of flooding the Marikina River
00:07due to the impact of the Typhoon Pepito.
00:09This is the story of Clayzel Fardilya.
00:14Before the Super Typhoon Pepito hit Metro Manila,
00:19Sherry quickly moved the household items that could have been flooded.
00:24She also cooked food in case the Marikina River next to it floods
00:29and needed to be evacuated.
00:31Now that we have a child, we need to think about how to take care of the child.
00:37Jimmy is calling for help to finish the assignment of his two children.
00:42If the assignment we did is okay, we will prepare it.
00:46It's plastic, ma'am, because the typhoon is coming now.
00:49That's the only thing that will affect them.
00:51They just need to study well.
00:54Residents are afraid of the Marikina River
00:58that could flood in case of heavy rain on the Typhoon Pepito.
01:03At 2 p.m. earlier this afternoon,
01:05its level was still at 12.5 meters or normal.
01:09At the time when the water level reached 16 meters,
01:13the Marikina LGU will conduct a pre-emptive evacuation
01:17and the residents will be forced to evacuate when it reaches 18 meters.
01:23The 27 schools and gyms that will serve as evacuation centers in Marikina are open tomorrow.
01:28Boats and responders are already in place.
01:32We have been monitoring for 24 hours.
01:34We are really monitoring the barangays.
01:36Barangay Nangka, Tumana, Malanday, and Kasama Iban da Concepcion.
01:43Eight floodgates in Pasig were also opened,
01:46which are connected to the Marikina River.
01:49The reason why the floodgates were opened
01:53is so that the water from the mountains could not be stored in Marikina.
01:58So if the floodgates were opened,
02:00the water from the mountains that flows through Marikina
02:03will flow directly from Marikina going to Pasig.
02:09In Quezon City,
02:11the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office
02:14conducted a pre-emptive evacuation early.
02:17Before 12 p.m.,
02:20more than 500 residents were evacuated to Barangay Apolonyo, Samson,
02:24Bagong Silangan, Damayanlagi, Santo Domingo, and Tatalon.
02:28The QC Hotline 122 was not able to reach those in need of help.
02:35The LGU was able to vote.
02:37All pumping stations were made operational
02:40to reduce the possible flooding.
02:42Trucks and boats were also prepared
02:45to respond in the event of a flood.
02:48Kalay Zalpardilla for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
