00:00We wanted to promote a meeting dedicated to the strategic value that the pharmaceutical sector brings to the country's system,
00:13with a deepening, thanks also to the collaboration with the Institute of Research VIFOR,
00:18precisely on the data that Sanofi brings, the impact that Sanofi brings to the country.
00:24In particular, significant data emerged, 1.4 billion in terms of contribution to the GDP,
00:32but also in terms of the value that each place of work in Sanofi generates in the country's system,
00:41with a multiplier of more than 5.
00:45These data certainly reflect on the importance of the sector,
00:51also important data on the R&D intensity of 3%.
00:58Among other things, on R&D, we recently declared the desire to increase the clinical studies of phase 3
01:09already next year, and Italy will play a fundamental role also in clinical research.
01:16All this is important, but what we want to do today is launch an appeal,
01:23an appeal to the country, because it is endowed with a comprehensive life science strategy of various aspects,
01:34both the aspect of financing, the law of balance is being discussed at the moment,
01:41there is a subject of structural sub-financing of hospital pharmaceutical spending,
01:47for a growing demand for the innovation that the industry brings,
01:52which has a series of benefits and reduction of other expenses,
01:57there is therefore the issue of payback, which is certainly correct and unsustainable,
02:02there is also the issue of access, to make access to patients and new therapies faster and faster,
02:10but there is also the issue of competitiveness and how Europe,
02:16for example, compared to the US and China, risks losing competitiveness,
02:23but also Italy, since other countries have already been endowed with a strategy,
02:28we hope that it can be endowed with a life science strategy,
02:33perhaps with a board of directors, because there is certainly a need for several ministries
02:39that collaborate, a board of directors, perhaps coordinated also by the Presidency of the Council,
02:44where the life science sector is put at the center of the development of this country.
