Do you remember this iconic video that basically defines the early 2010s? It was a bunch of cybergoths dancing under an overpass in Germany, and the internet ate it up, and then had seconds - as in, made countless edits featuring all kinds of ridiculous songs. 00:00Many have been asking, where did emo go? Where did goth go? Where did all that cool Invader
00:07Zim aesthetic disappear to? Well, it's still here, and it will always be here. Today we
00:11are looking at Cyber Goth Dance Remixes, a dance party that originally went viral in
00:17the early 2010s, back before Facebook had every single frame of your face at different
00:21angles, fingerprints, and all of your search history on file, probably, back when you were
00:24customizing the colors on your YouTube page, or editing the code for your MySpace page,
00:28listening to Lady Gaga, this was the jam. It was a bunch of rad cyber ravers, knitted
00:33out in fishnets, purple and neon greens, chokers, dyed hair, chains, buckles, belts, and poofy
00:38leg warmers. It was like everyone was Grr, or a Gaia Online avatar in real life, it was
00:43sick. This particular dance party took place in Germany, specifically in Dusseldorf, which
00:48seems like a fake word, or a weird dessert I'd order at a bakery, dancing to EDM under
00:52an overpass. It was immediately an intriguing video to everyone. People began editing the
00:57footage, often putting sillier tunes over the dances, and this lasted throughout the
01:01years. Many remixes came out for almost a decade. Some notable examples include this
01:05Bill Nye the Science Guy remix edit from 2015 by Nolan. This is exactly how it feels every
01:11Thursday in fourth grade when the teacher carted out the CRT TV with a stack of Bill
01:14Nye DVDs on top. Once the lights dimmed and that intro started playing, you realized you
01:18were in for the best day of school all week. This video edit feels like it's specifically
01:22targeted towards my generation, to give me a nostalgic energy bomb. Many other remixes
01:26hit the internet, and you could really imagine a lot of sillies to be had very quickly. Maybe
01:30throw some Deltarune music over it, or maybe throw the Through the Fire and Flame song
01:34from Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. The world is your musical oyster. After about
01:37a decade, though, this video felt cemented in a hall of fame of sorts. It's a classic,
01:42and many started arranging this video's existence in a sort of timeline, caring about
01:46the lore. For example, in late 2022, TikTok user madcow sleuthed out exactly where the
01:52original dance took place in Dusseldorf. They found the exact street, the bridge, everything,
01:57and this internet detective work, akin to Rainbolt's prowess, garnered over 6 million
02:02views in just a month. People were intrigued to get more lore about one of the early 2010s
02:07most iconic alternative videos. But what if I were to tell you that's not all? Shortly
02:11after this TikTok went viral, showing the location, other users began to find other
02:16little interesting information, inspiration to dig up more about this video. And what
02:21they found was next level. An alternate video, a new angle. That's right, on December 12th,
02:262022, right below our noses the entire time was this alternate angle video posted on March
02:3114th, 2011, and it actually includes extra footage taken right before the original video
02:36took place. It was very underground, it barely had views in those 13 years before this Redditor
02:40found it and posted it. It's a great time castle to an older time, you can almost feel
02:44a distant reality, a different timeline. Eggs weren't 1 billion dollars at the grocery store.
02:49As one user wrote on Twitter, this is as historically significant as getting a different
02:54angle of the JFK assassination. I couldn't have put it better myself. Teleport me into
02:58this German cyber party, I need this. As a society, we need this. I'm gonna start dancing
03:03under bridges like a little troll. It's what the world needs more of these days. Anyway, peace.
