Comparing Vimto to supermarket dupes
Transcript
00:00Welcome to my kitchen once again, here I am, I've got a bottle of Vimto which surprisingly
00:11has Lancashire roots and I'm checking it out against the supermarket dupes, the Lidl and
00:17Aldi versions which are slightly cheaper but do they taste anything like, let's see.
00:23Okay so here we've got the real classic Vimto in the middle, to the left we've got Lidl's
00:30version which is mixed dough, that costs £9.99p and to the right, Fruto, that's Aldi's version
00:38and that was £1.15. Vimto, you can widely get it for £1.25 for that size, I actually
00:46paid £2 for it at Booths because it was handy just to go to Booths but bear that in mind.
00:53So there you go, I'm about to put water in but yeah, that's how I like it, that's how
01:01I would normally dilute it and as you can see, all really similar colours. Right the
01:07first one I'm going to have is actual proper Vimto just to remind myself, as if I needed
01:13to, exactly what it tastes like. By the way, this is the full sugar version because that's
01:22my preference. Okay, the next one we've got is mixed dough from Lidl, so it looks identical
01:34but does it taste identical, let's see. First of all, it doesn't smell, it doesn't have
01:41that distinctive smell, I've got to say it. It's sweeter, it's noticeably sweeter and
01:52that might be because in Lidl you can only get the sugar free version so that might be
01:59because of the sweeteners involved. It's just overridingly sweet, it's sweet fruit squash
02:09but it doesn't have that distinctive Vimto herbal essence that we all know. So now I'll
02:18kind of refresh my palate with the proper Vimto. Okay, that's got a bit of depth to
02:26it that the Lidl one just didn't have. And the last one I'm going to try is Fruto, the
02:33Aldi version, so again, looks identical, smells a bit more like the proper version.
02:47That one tastes closer, definitely closer than the Lidl version, it's more flavourful
02:53and it's got a little bit more of those herbally notes to it. So that's the Aldi one, this
03:03is the proper one. There isn't a lot in that, there's not a lot in that but the Aldi one
03:17is £1.15, the real one is £1.25, it's 10p. I would just get the real one, it is better
03:27in my opinion. For 10p, no arguments, get the real one.
