00:44Week 9 of the NFL, we have a very special guest with us today, Bruce Arians.
00:49Thank you for being here. Super Bowl champ, Bruce Arians.
00:52We've been very excited to have you here.
00:54We're excited to have you sitting, talking ball with the boys.
00:57It's my pleasure. You know, it's been a long time since we sat in the basement and did the show.
01:01And then up in New York. Yeah, it's great to be here and looking forward to it.
01:05So, are you, you know, you've been out, what, two years, three years now? Two years.
01:10Are you starting to miss it? Are you starting to get the itch?
01:12No, no. The first year, I went to practice every day, went to the games,
01:16and I finally got thrown off the sidelines by the NFL for starting to fight.
01:20That's right, I forgot about that.
01:22Big Dom before Big Dom.
01:24I forgot about that.
01:25So, it's like, no, I need to get away.
01:27This is Todd's team, and I'm around too much, so I stay at the lake now.
01:31And Jason will call and vent on Monday, and Todd will call and vent on Friday.
01:35That's my job.
01:35Okay, nice, nice.
01:37He's there to pick up the phone.
01:38Yeah.
01:38And a little bit more relaxing, probably, than being on the sidelines.
01:41Totally, yeah. Unless I miss about five three-foot putts that day, then that's about it.
01:45Yeah, that's great. That's great.
01:47That's great.
01:47Who's your favorite player you've ever coached?
01:50Man, that's a hard one. I mean...
01:51That's a good question.
01:53My favorite player, because he did more with what he had, was Paul Palmer.
01:59Paul Palmer led the nation in rushing at Temple University at 175 pounds,
02:03and I gave it to him 45 times a game.
02:06And he was the number one pick of the Chiefs, and really, really, you know, first-team All-American.
02:12In the NFL, I couldn't say, because I'd piss off about 50.
02:16Yeah.
02:16Can't pick a favorite. Can't pick a favorite kid.
02:20I would lean towards the receiver group of Larry Fitzgerald, Hines Ward, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison.
02:27That's pretty good receivers.
02:28Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
02:30Yeah, just legend after legend.
02:32Mike Evans, Chris Godwin.
02:3320 receivers in the world.
02:34I just hope I get to go back to Canton every year for the next eight, nine years.
02:38You're, like, rattled off those, and then you're, like, going,
02:40by the way, Mike Evans, he's here, too.
02:42Yeah, I know. I forgot something about him, too.
02:45That's awesome.
02:45OK, so we're going to get into the Storyline Games of the week.
02:47We're really excited to hear your insight, because, obviously, as a head coach in the NFL,
02:50Super Bowl-winning head coach, you get a lot of the ins and outs.
02:52And, you know, he played in the NFL for 10 years, so.
02:54Yeah.
02:56Coach Arians was the very first head coach I got to start against.
03:00Really?
03:01Arizona Cardinals, 2014.
03:04I didn't have, like – I was so nervous.
03:06The very first play of the game, they were in trips and ran, you know, a power-o pass,
03:12where they pull the guard.
03:13They pull the guard, tight end goes down the seam, tried me on the first play.
03:17I think I only had a couple tackles that game.
03:18We might have won, I can't remember.
03:20But, yeah, he was the very first coach I got to start against.
03:22When you were trying to fill out the roster, did Will's name ever come up?
03:26Being like, all right, we've got number 52 and 53, we need someone?
03:29Oh, yeah.
03:30OK.
03:30Of course.
03:32I'll take the oh, yeah.
03:34Let me figure this out.
03:35Figure out this answer.
03:36So, Will Compton came across your desk a couple times, yeah?
03:38Maybe we get Levante, David, and Will Compton back together.
03:42There you go.
03:43Will Free – how are you doing, Jerry?
03:45I'm doing great.
03:46Doing great.
03:46Bye week for me, so I'm relaxing, you know?
03:49Did you have fun on Monday?
03:50I had a great time, yeah.
03:51I mean, you know, experience of a lifetime.
03:54Really was.
03:55As you can tell, he's a big Steelers fan.
03:56He was there holding up a Sussy for Russy sign.
04:00Russ is real.
04:01I mean, if I found out anything going into that game Monday night, Russ is very real.
04:06Playing good ball.
04:07He is.
04:08He is.
04:08Playing good ball.
04:09He is playing good ball.
04:10All right, let's get right into it.
04:11Storyline games of the week presented by the Chevy Silverado.
04:13We'll start with the Broncos at the Ravens.
04:15Dan, the Ravens minus nine.
04:17Broncos last week getting a win.
04:19The Ravens losing to the Browns.
04:21Who are you taking this week?
04:22Very impressed with what the Broncos have done this year.
04:24Five and three.
04:26Didn't think they'd be this good.
04:27I think Bo Nix is playing well.
04:30I also think they have not played any one.
04:34I like the Ravens here, but I'll ask this to you, Coach.
04:39When you go through the season and you have these stretches where it's like you might win three, four games,
04:45but you know in the back of your head you're playing lesser than competition,
04:49and then that step up happens where you're playing a Super Bowl contending team,
04:53can you feel that difference when you get in that game and you're like,
04:56all right, this is not the teams we've been playing?
04:58Yeah, it starts in Monday's meeting.
05:00Yeah.
05:00You know, you get the old film out of the way right away,
05:03and you kind of jump start it to this is a different week, you know?
05:06Yeah.
05:07You know, we're playing somebody that is super, super explosive.
05:13When you talk about the Ravens especially.
05:15Yeah, I mean Lamar Jackson, how do you stop that?
05:18You know, they have so many weapons around them, they keep adding more.
05:24Yeah.
05:24They do such a great job in their front office, and John Harbaugh does too,
05:27but I would not want to play the Ravens this week after losing to the Browns.
05:31That's the other thing.
05:32So losing that game to the Browns.
05:34A little spooky.
05:35Deontay Johnson.
05:36If Sean Lamar leave the field, I wouldn't want to play Lamar this week.
05:39Yeah, it does feel like they got a little fuck you edge to them this week.
05:43Yeah.
05:44What they're going to try to prove.
05:45So yeah, I'm going to take the Ravens.
05:46I never count out Sean Payton.
05:48Yeah.
05:49Sean has played against this defense a couple of times,
05:52and Sean is one of the masters of knowing certain defensive coordinators
05:56and what they do and how they do it, and putting Bo Nix in a position
06:00that he'll be successful.
06:01What is that?
06:02Is that just Sean Payton is just really good at staying one step ahead of the guy
06:06where it's like he knows what they're going to do before they even do it?
06:09Well, Sean has run his offense for so long.
06:12He's not a copycat guy.
06:14Yeah.
06:14So he's going to match his offense each week.
06:17Right.
06:18And his players know his offense.
06:19They're not watching the other guy's film saying, oh, let's put that play in.
06:22Right, right.
06:22Look, it was successful.
06:23No, we're running our stuff.
06:24Right.
06:25And this is how we're going to beat them.
06:26And it always starts with don't turn it over.
06:29Yeah.
06:30Don't turn it over, especially against a great team.
06:32Yeah.
06:32Which Bo Nix, he's been doing it.
06:34I think he's got seven touchdowns and one interception in the last few games.
06:38I like the Broncos.
06:39Against the Ravens.
06:40I understand.
06:41You're totally right about how they haven't played anybody.
06:43But starting off 0 and 2, then going 5 and 1 since then.
06:46Their defense, Vance Joseph, that defense is playing really well.
06:49I feel like they match up.
06:51It'll be a great test for them.
06:52And yeah, I mean, the Ravens are averaging 200 yards on the ground.
06:55They are.
06:55They are explosive.
06:56But also in the last four games, they've given up like 30 points per game.
07:00And I feel like the way the professionalism of Bo Nix that we talked about.
07:03He loves Bo Nix.
07:04Professional.
07:04Loves Bo Nix.
07:05Professional.
07:05But starts off, you know, he turns the ball over.
07:07But now he's in a spot where he's protecting the football more.
07:09And the offense seems like him and Sean have a good rapport.
07:12With 9 and 1⁄2 points, that's where I'm taking the Broncos.
07:15I do think the Ravens win this game.
07:17But I feel like this is going to be a good week to see where the Broncos are really at.
07:20OK.
07:20But Lamar's not scary to you?
07:22No, he is.
07:22He is.
07:23I think everything he's saying is absolutely true.
07:26I've had some, for whatever reason, some fascination with the Broncos.
07:30Bo Nix and Sean Payton.
07:31And to the point of the preparation, like the cup of coffee that I was there for in the preseason.
07:36You'd be at practice, and if a situation in Coach Payton's mind comes up,
07:40he stops all of practice to go over that specific situation.
07:43And everybody's all ears, huddled up and everything else.
07:45So I just, yeah, I like the Broncos.
07:48OK.
07:48Let's go Rams at Seahawks.
07:50Will the Rams minus 1 and 1⁄2?
07:52Man, the Rams.
07:54I think the Rams, the way they played last week, they got Puka back.
07:57They got Cooper Cupp back.
07:59You know they're feeling excited.
08:01They're optimistic.
08:02They had to find ways to win.
08:03You know, they won a couple games with them being out.
08:06I like the Rams this week.
08:07And I feel like the Seahawks, I don't know how they just got killed last week at home versus the Bills.
08:12That's the thing.
08:13That's what confuses me.
08:16What can you explain for like a Jekyll and Hyde team, where it's like,
08:20Seattle goes to Atlanta and handles business.
08:23Then they come home, and they look like they shouldn't even—
08:25They're fighting on the sidelines.
08:27They're fumbling snaps.
08:30Is it because McDonald's, who I think is a good head coach, is a new coach
08:34and maybe hasn't gone through the ups and downs of the season?
08:37Or what can be attributed to what we've seen from them?
08:40I think a lot of it's first year.
08:41Yeah.
08:42First year blues and jitters.
08:44You know, you can't handle success, and you do better if you fail,
08:49because you're all pissed off and you come play.
08:51Now when they move in, we have a nice ride home.
08:53We're chilling all week, and we don't show up.
08:55Right.
08:56If you don't show up in international football, you're actually getting beat.
08:58Right.
08:59I don't care who you're playing.
09:00You're getting beat.
09:00Yeah.
09:01And they put a beat down on them, and I would see that bounce back this week,
09:06knowing Coach McDonald.
09:08They had a hell of a week of practice, I'll bet.
09:09Yeah, and Stafford is incredible.
09:13He—I don't know how he keeps getting lost in the shuffle
09:17with just talking about the best quarterbacks in the game,
09:20but it feels like every year, we get a few weeks in the season,
09:23and people just kind of forget, oh, Matthew Stafford is a baller.
09:27Oh, yeah, he's one of the best—
09:28He's one of the few quarterbacks I would go out, even as a head coach,
09:31early and watch him warm up.
09:32Really?
09:33Really.
09:34Because his arm is just unbelievable.
09:36There are not five better arms that I've ever seen.
09:40Now, he's there with Jeff George and guys that had just ungodly arms.
09:44Yeah.
09:44Not necessarily great quarterback.
09:45Yeah, Jeff George, yeah, couldn't put the other part together.
09:47Unbelievable arm, but Matt is.
09:50He is all that in those years in Detroit.
09:52All right, wait.
09:52So give us the top—give us your top five arms.
09:56Nice.
09:57Okay.
09:57Top five arms.
09:58I saw those wheels turning.
09:59I knew Dan was going to ask that.
10:00You saw with your eyes.
10:02Namath.
10:03Okay.
10:04Marino.
10:05Okay.
10:07Jeff George.
10:08Okay.
10:12I got to throw Patrick in there just because Patrick's so unbelievable.
10:16Yeah.
10:16You know, and Matt.
10:18Stafford, yeah.
10:19Pretty good list.
10:20I've heard—I'm going to—by the way, I'm going to take the Rams as well,
10:22but I've heard the—I've heard Rodgers, obviously, that too,
10:25where it's like the sound of the ball is different when Rodgers is humming it.
10:29It used to be.
10:30Yeah.
10:31Not anymore.
10:31Okay, Tom.
10:32Yes, yeah, yeah.
10:33That was—
10:34The grin says it all.
10:35Yeah, the grin.
10:35The grin.
10:36Used to be, then just that little—the little grin.
10:39We got you there, coach.
10:40All right, let's go to Jerry's Picking Zoo presented by Stella Blue Coffee.

11:06Okay, Jerry, we have a new pet this week.
11:08Yes, Leia.
11:09Leia.
11:10All right, let's roll the video.
11:13All right, welcome back.
11:14Pro Football Football Show Week 9.
11:16Oh.
11:17Jerry's Picking Zoo.
11:18We got a very special guest here.
11:20We're going to get into it really quick, but before that, Mika.
11:23And this is no shade to Tom.
11:25It's Tom's cat.
11:26She had no appetite.
11:28She wasn't hungry for the W.
11:29She lost.
11:30She's gone.
11:31Week 9, Detroit vs. Green Bay.
11:34New guest, we have Leia?
11:37Leia?
11:38Leia.
11:38Leia.
11:39She's a dachshund corgi.
11:42She's a mix.
11:43She got the corgi body with the dachshund face, so she's a mix.
11:48She's gorgeous.
11:50She loves me already.
11:51Look, I even taught her a trick already.
11:52Sit.
11:53Look at that, Paul.
11:54Look at that.
11:55I'm a dog trainer now.
11:56Anyway, we need some assistance, though.
11:58So Kelsey's going to come in.
12:00She's going to hold Leia back.
12:02One on each.
12:03Detroit and Green Bay.
12:05Look, she's ready.
12:06She witnessed it.
12:06Ready to go.
12:07We're going to put her down, and she's going to go.
12:14Oh.
12:14It's the Lions.
12:15That was decisive.
12:15It's the Lions this week.
12:16She's so fussy.
12:18It's both.
12:18But it was the Lions.
12:19Overtime.
12:20Yeah.
12:22I made a good bet.
12:23It's the Lions this week.
12:24Book it.
12:25We'll be back next week.
12:25Coach, you're probably thinking, what the heck did I just get into?
12:28I'll sit there.
12:29I love it.
12:30I love it.
12:30I'm wondering if Jerry ever thinks, like,
12:32the guests are just sitting there.
12:33Yeah.
12:34There's no reaction happening.
12:35He's probably just thinking, man, I wonder what they had.
12:37Most guests we've had are, like, idiots like us.
12:40Like, we have, like, a Super Bowl head coach who's like, what am I watching?
12:43Well, listen.
12:43I mean, you're not making picks on these games, coach, but I am.
12:46And if we find a dog that can pick games,
12:49I'm going to follow that dog for the rest of my life.
12:50All the way.
12:51All the way.
12:51Yeah, exactly.
12:52Just make sure you have the right treat on the right dog.
12:54I mean, that dog knew.
12:55I mean, she knew what she wanted.
12:57So it is the game of the week presented by the Chevy Silverado,
12:59the Lions at the Packers.
13:00So Dan, are you riding with?
13:03I like the Packers in this game.
13:05The Lions seems weird, right, bro?
13:06I love the Lions.
13:07Well, so Jared Goff, who's been phenomenal,
13:10turned his ankle in practice this week.
13:11I think he's fine.
13:12But he's going outdoors.
13:13The Lions are a different team.
13:15The Lions are riding so high.
13:17The Packers' defense takes the ball away.
13:19They have, I think, 19 turnovers this year so far.
13:22I think they had 18 total last year.
13:25I just think this is a, like, Matt LaFleur's a great coach.
13:28He doesn't get enough credit for me.
13:30And I hate the Packers.
13:31I'm a Bears fan.
13:32I hate the Packers.
13:33But Matt LaFleur's a great coach.
13:35And I think he's going to have them ready to go.
13:37And I think I'm going to take the Packers in this game.
13:39I hate it.
13:40I think the Lions are one of the best teams in the league,
13:42or if not the best.
13:43But it's hard to win every single week.
13:45And at some point, you have a hiccup.
13:47Yeah.
13:48I'm with you.
13:48I'm riding that, too.
13:49I think Coach LaFleur, he doesn't get all the flowers
13:52that he deserves, especially with earlier in the year
13:55with Malik Willis playing.
13:56And to your point, too, the 19 turnovers,
13:58like when you're in those defensive rooms
14:00and your team is hot and you're turning the football over,
14:04the meetings are fun.
14:05Everything's fun.
14:06And everybody's kind of challenging each other
14:07on who's going to get the next one.
14:09If you haven't gotten one yet, your eyes
14:10are getting picked at.
14:11You're trying to get the motivation going.
14:13You're having little side bets and everything else.
14:15I like the juju of the Packers.
14:16And yeah, I'm with you.
14:18The Lions are so good, though.
14:20The Lions are so good.
14:21I was going to ask you, Coach, what's going on with Dan Campbell?
14:24I mean, I love Dan.
14:25Dan reminds me so much of Bill Cowher.
14:30But the way they run the football.
14:31Yeah, I know.
14:32And it sets up that play, action, passing game
14:35that they're getting chunks of 20 and 30
14:38and completing 18 in a row.
14:39Right.
14:40It's not like they're getting one out of four.
14:42These are them all.
14:43Yeah.
14:43Because you've got to have the box stacked to stop the run,
14:46or they're going to run it down your throat.
14:48And they're doing a great job with gimmicks.
14:52They got five or six gimmicks every game.
14:54And it's hard to bet against the Lions.
14:57I do think it's going to be a high-scoring, hell of a football
14:59game.
15:00Yep.
15:00Let me ask you this about the gimmicks.
15:02When you would go into a game, how many trick plays
15:04would you have in your back pocket for that game?
15:06We would start in training camp with 10.
15:09OK.
15:09And we would just practice them every week.
15:12And I'm hardly ever used to any of them.
15:16Yeah.
15:16We always had a flea flicker.
15:17If you're playing quarters, we got the flea flicker.
15:19Yeah.
15:19Everybody's got that one.
15:21But when you start lining up plays
15:24to get offensive tackles to the ball, that's creative.
15:27That is creative.
15:28That's creative, bro.
15:29I got one for you.
15:29He's not seeming to do stuff.
15:30I got one for you.
15:31I had too many tackles.
15:31I could send out there for a pass.
15:33Yeah, it's great.
15:33And then they're doing the rugby pass.
15:36I got one for you.
15:38I pitch it to a lot of coaches.
15:39I haven't found one that likes it yet.
15:42It's the fake punt punt.
15:44So you run like you're running a fake punt.
15:46And then you still punt.
15:48He brings this up.
15:48Everybody's got to see it.
15:50Nobody can go downfield.
15:51Yeah, I know.
15:52But the punt returners will be like, oh, no, it's a fake.
15:54And then you punt it over his head.
15:56Fake punt punt.
15:57They'll never see it coming.
15:59I also, if I were a coach, I would fake punt
16:02every single time for the entire regular season.
16:05And then in the playoffs, I'd punt.
16:08Because they wouldn't see.
16:09They wouldn't be ready for it.
16:10You wouldn't be in the playoffs.
16:12Not punting, you wouldn't be in the playoffs.
16:14You wouldn't even get that opportunity.
16:16That's one of the things I do as a coach.
16:17No big deal.
16:18And how many coaches do you think you've pitched that to?
16:20A lot.
16:21A lot.
16:21And it's not over.
16:22I have some really dumb coach thoughts.
16:24I was thinking, this isn't a baseball show,
16:27but the World Series last night, when the Yankees went up 3-0
16:29or 5-0 early in the game, I would have pulled Garrett Cole
16:32and saved him for game six and been like, we're good.
16:35Because I just feel like any time there's a lead,
16:38this is just going to keep happening.
16:39We're going to keep winning.
16:41Yeah, I haven't watched any baseball this year.
16:43It's over.
16:43I haven't watched it.
16:44Three guys on the Yankees or Dodgers.
16:47This is tough.
16:48Derek Jeter?
16:49Nope.
16:52That's crazy.
16:53This is genuine.
16:54This is genuine.
16:55Mookie Betts.
16:56Yes.
16:56That's one.
16:58Was it Freddie or Fred?
17:00Guy who's got all the home runs.
17:01OK, Freddie Freeman.
17:02Yeah, Freddie Freeman.
17:04Freddie Freeman.
17:04There's a real big one that you're missing.
17:06Come on, you got these.
17:08Otani?
17:09Yep.
17:09There it is.
17:10That's two and a half.
17:12Who's that big bastard from the Yankees?
17:15That's crazy.
17:16Aaron Judge.
17:16Yeah.
17:17Aaron Judge.
17:17Aaron Judge.
17:18You're pretty good, bro.
17:21The way they coach you to do, like, uh.
17:23You got to see.
17:24When they get into it, when you get Will and Taylor going
17:26on baseball or basketball, it's the funniest.
17:28The hockey guys, too.
17:30I mean, Biz this week getting Ashanti and Otani.
17:32Yeah, incredible.
17:33But baseball's over now, so you're good.
17:35It's football season.
17:35He's a football guy.
17:36He's Dodgers.
17:37He's Dodgers.
17:38Taylor actually went to the, he was out in LA.
17:40Yeah, he did.
17:40I saw that.
17:41He left before the Grand Slam.
17:42Oh, no.
17:44Game one.
17:44He was like, he hadn't been to a baseball game since eight years old.
17:46I was like, bro, playoff baseball, like, that's awesome.
17:48Like, enjoy yourself.
17:49And then I was like, hey, what do you think about being there for
17:51that home run?
17:52He's like, we left.
17:53Oh.
17:54I was like, got him, bro.
17:55Actually, this isn't, so coach, like, now that you're out of coaching,
17:59like, do you pay more attention to the other sports?
18:00Like, when you were, I would assume in football season when you were
18:02coaching, it was only football, right?
18:04So now you're able to enjoy it a little bit more?
18:05I do.
18:06I love playoffs.
18:07I don't care where the sport is.
18:08Yeah.
18:09Playoffs, because I know everybody's playing.
18:10Right.
18:11And everybody's playing hard, you know?
18:13So it could be the tiddlywinks playoffs.
18:15I'm watching.
18:15Yeah.
18:16No, it's true.
18:16There's something about playoffs.
18:17I was watching cornhole playoffs the other day.
18:19I mean.
18:20Yeah.
18:20They were getting after it pretty good.
18:21They get it.
18:22Yeah.
18:22Absolutely.
18:24All right, let's move to the Playbook Picks of the Week presented by
18:26DraftKings.

18:48That's promo code P-R-O only at DraftKings Sportsbook.
18:51The crown is yours.
18:52All right, Dan the Bears.
18:53Yeah.
18:53I know a heartbreaker for you last week.
18:55I'm so sick of talking about this Hail Mary.
18:57I'm sorry.
18:57I'm happy that.
18:58No, it's tough.
19:01Will did text me right after.
19:03He's like, I'm sorry.
19:03He wasn't mean about it.
19:04I credit to you.
19:05You were not mean about it.
19:06It's the best Hail Mary I've ever seen.
19:07It's the same thing with Nebraska.
19:09Yeah, no, I was rooting hard for Nebraska.
19:10I appreciated that.
19:13That was brutal.
19:16They shouldn't have won that game, the Bears.
19:19They played bad for three quarters and then they turned it on in the fourth
19:22quarter, but their defense kept them in it.
19:24I am happy the coach is here for two games.
19:27This is the first one because I have a question.
19:30So, I don't know if you followed it.
19:32By the way, everyone who doesn't know Bruce Arians, there's a sliding door moment.
19:36He was almost the Bears head coach instead of Mark Trestman.
19:39The Bears screwed that up.
19:40Whatever.
19:40That just is what it is.
19:42They tried to make him do a fake press conference and he's like, I'm a football
19:46coach.
19:47What are we doing here?
19:48So, I'll speak for him on that.
19:50That was a stupid thing.
19:52But, so, coach, that happens.
19:56The players start saying that they, like, they're like, we don't know what happened.
20:00Like, obviously Tyreek Stevenson, lack of focus, which goes back to the whole thing.
20:04We always say, like, either you're coaching it or you're allowing it.
20:09Sorry, Matt Iberflues letting them get 14 yards to get into Hail Mary zone and saying
20:14afterwards that didn't matter, which it clearly mattered.
20:17So, now you have a locker room that is, for the first time, kind of questioning their
20:20head coach.
20:21Their head coach didn't take any kind of responsibility until Wednesday.
20:26How do you come, how do you bounce back as a locker room from that?
20:29I'm taking the Bears, but how do you bounce back?
20:31Taking the Bears.
20:32Yeah, I think it had to start in the locker room after the game and with ownership.
20:36Yeah, and he did.
20:37Tyreek Stevenson did.
20:38You got to own it.
20:39I got to own it.
20:40As a coach, as a staff, we got to own it.
20:42Now, how many times have we practiced this?
20:44Yeah.
20:45You know, we do not let a guy get behind us, you know, and you don't bat the ball.
20:51Right.
20:52You know, that's the last thing you ever do is bat the ball.
20:55Yeah.
20:56If you do anything, you slam it down.
20:58Right.
20:59So, if those points were all covered a bunch of times, I don't think you'd lose your
21:05locker room at all.
21:06Right.
21:07Unless you disown it.
21:08So, but here's the part that I still struggle with.
21:11Did you see the last, like, three plays?
21:14I don't know if you saw.
21:15So, at the end of the first half, the Bears did the correct thing when the commanders
21:21are on, like, the 30 and they play the sidelines.
21:23All the guys are on the sidelines, not giving them easy completions on the sidelines to
21:27get out of bounds and get in a Hail Mary spot.
21:29The second to last play on Sunday, the Bears didn't do that.
21:32They basically, the commanders are on their own 30.
21:35They, you can't throw a Hail Mary from the 30, and they give away 14 free yards.
21:40That's coaching.
21:41And that, like, that to me is, like, Matt Iberflus should have stood up there and
21:44been, like, I don't know why I didn't stop that play.
21:47Because if that play doesn't happen, I don't think the Hail Mary happens.
21:49So, that's where I was, like, it's as much Tyreek Stephenson as it is Matt Iberflus,
21:55and it feels like just coming back together in this game is going to be, it's going to
22:00tell everything.
22:01Yeah, and I don't think they'll have a problem with that.
22:03They really don't.
22:04I mean, they've got a really solid locker room, and they're winning for the first time
22:07in a long time.
22:08Yep.
22:08And that cures a lot of ills.
22:10Okay.
22:10You know, we can push some things aside because we're in the hunt.
22:15Yeah.
22:15And if they're, flip it, and you're back to two and six and shit like that happens,
22:19like, it ain't, you can't overcome it.
22:22Right, right.
22:23Because now the termites are coming out.
22:25Yeah.
22:26What's that first meeting like on Monday or whenever the guys come in?
22:29And you're going through that play.
22:30Obviously, you cover it after the game.
22:32Yeah, you cover it after the game, but then, you know, you stand up there in front of everybody
22:36and either bring out the practice film or the, how many times have we played, how many
22:42times have we practiced this?
22:43Now, granted, I don't think anybody practices it live.
22:47Right, you just walk through on the floor.
22:48Yeah, it's always walk through Saturday, and boom, boom, here's your job, all right?
22:52Do your job.
22:53But I think, then I let it go.
22:57We got 24 hours to get to the next one.
22:59Yeah.
22:59And it's always the 24-hour rule.
23:01You don't win past Monday, and you don't lose past Monday.
23:04Yeah.
23:05You're on to the next one on Tuesday.
23:06Yeah.
23:07And the players usually have off.
23:09The really good teams, there are a lot of players in the locker room on Tuesdays getting
23:13a head start on all the good teams I've been on.
23:16Yep.
23:16So they're getting their prep, and it's over.
23:18Yeah.
23:19There's no reason to dwell on it.
23:20Like, everyone knows it's fucked up.
23:21It's over now.
23:21Yeah.
23:22We own it.
23:23Let's go.
23:24OK.
23:24And making it about just those last two, whether it's the fall defense or tire
23:28receiving.
23:29I was going to say, yeah, and there's going to be a lot of everybody on offense being
23:32like, you know, you don't win or lose a game on one single play.
23:35That play shouldn't happen.
23:36Everybody's going to be watching.
23:37Yeah.
23:37I'm with you.
23:38It shouldn't have happened.
23:40But it did, and we got other problems to worry about.
23:44We got Marvin Harrison.
23:44We got Hail Mary.
23:46If we're still on Thursday, if we're still talking about the Hail Mary.
23:50That's a problem.
23:50I'm taking the Cardinals.
23:51Yeah.
23:52Yeah.
23:52Cardinals, they're playing well.
23:54I know.
23:54They are.
23:55Kyler Murray's playing great.
23:56I just don't try.
23:57I think their defense is still, they don't get, they're low in the NFL.
24:02I think they're 27th or something in pass rush win rate.
24:05So the Bears offensive line is banged up, but it shouldn't be a situation where
24:10they are overpowered all game.
24:13Who are you taking?
24:14I'll ride with Dan.
24:15OK.
24:15I'll just ride with Dan.
24:16He's my guy.
24:17Obviously, last week it was the Commanders, and I'm sure I would bet the Raiders or
24:21the Titans.
24:22Maybe the Titans.
24:22I don't know about the Titans.
24:23But other than that, I'll be riding with my boy Dan.
24:26I don't want any bad juju.
24:27I don't want any bad juju going into an NFL Sunday.
24:30It's a good friend right there, team player, locker room guy.
24:32OK.
24:33Who's your playbook pick?
24:34Mine's going to be the Browns plus one and a half.
24:37There's not like, I know this is a playbook pick.
24:39I know it's like you got to see the field.
24:41You got to understand what's being called schematically.
24:43I'm not doing any of that.
24:44To me, I'm betting on the momentum that you can't necessarily quantify when a
24:49Jameis Winston steps in the game.
24:51I'm betting on the unwavering faith, the belief.
24:55Depending on Jesus, I should have led with Jesus.
25:00But give me the Browns plus one and a half.
25:03I mean, I like what the Chargers are doing.
25:06I'm going to take the Chargers.
25:07I think the Chargers are starting to open it up a little bit more.
25:09You saw, to start the season, they were really just running the ball.
25:13They were limiting Justin Herbert.
25:15I think he was averaging about 25 pass attempts a game.
25:17Now he's up to like 35 a game in the last three games.
25:20I do love Jameis, though.
25:22You're a Jameis guy.
25:23Jameis, I mean, what is Jameis like in the locker room?
25:27Oh, he's fantastic.
25:28No one works harder.
25:28He's the first one and last one to leave.
25:31He works his tail off.
25:32And, you know, I was so happy for him after that win.
25:35And if Justin Herbert throws the ball 35 to 40 times in this game,
25:41he's getting sacked 10.
25:42Ooh.
25:44They better run the ball.
25:45Okay.
25:45They better run the ball against that front in that stadium
25:48because that stadium is going to be rocking.
25:49I know, I know.
25:51After the Browns beat Baltimore the next week, if you're at home, it's rocking.
25:54Yeah.
25:55And so – and I know Jimmy's going to try to get them to a faster start.
26:00Yep.
26:01They better – they got to get off to a good start on the road
26:03in that stadium this week if you're going to beat them.
26:05Yeah, yeah.
26:06It's going to be a great game.
26:07I'm excited for this game.
26:08Any Jameis game is fun.
26:10And then you also have Jim Harbaugh too.
26:12Like you got just football guys across the board.
26:14It just feels like the Browns just have life again
26:16because, you know, Jameis just gives you that spark.
26:20Yeah.
26:20You have that belief in you.
26:22It's like we all loved it with the points last week,
26:23but the fact sitting there and seeing them win and upset Baltimore
26:26and then Jameis get his – like we obviously all love it.
26:30The name on the side of your helmet line that he had.
26:33And there was so – the Jameis –
26:35the last two plays for the Browns on offense
26:38was like the full Jameis Winston experience
26:41where he tried to throw an interception to Kyle Hamilton
26:43and then next play he just throws a seed right down the middle
26:46for a 38-yard touchdown.
26:48Like that's Jameis.
26:49That's life.
26:50He might be – he might be one of like the all-time like next play guys
26:55where it's like, yeah, he's just – he's going to keep chucking it.
26:58Our year he threw for 5,100, 33 touchdowns, you know.
27:01And those were unbelievable.
27:04And the 30 other ones.
27:05Yeah, the 30 interceptions.
27:06Yeah, yeah.
27:07But you live with it because we spot teams 10.
27:10You come rolling back.
27:11Yeah.
27:12You know.
27:12Yeah.
27:13You know he'll make up for it on that one play.
27:14He's the definition of no risk and no biscuit.
27:15All the way.
27:16Yeah.
27:16Yeah.
27:18All right, let's get to the Fireball Rapid-Fire Picks of the Week.
27:21The Rapid-Fire Pick segment is presented by Fireball Whiskey.
27:23So many things make football great.
27:24But you know what the best thing is, is kicking the living shit out of your rival
27:27and there's no better feeling as an athlete or a fan.
27:29This week we've got NFC East Rivals commanders at the New York Giants
27:33and Fireball Whiskey is here to give you a spark to ignite that rivalry all season long.
27:37Grab your football buddy, buy a round and reignite that rivalry flame.
27:40All right, Coach, so what we do is we just rattle through these.
27:43If you want to stop and talk about one, you can.
27:45But we're just picking the games and talking about these matchups.
27:48So, Will, I'll start with you.
27:49The Dolphins at the Bills.
27:52Bills.
27:52I think they went into Seattle last week, beat their ass,
27:55and I feel like they own the Dolphins, especially at home.
27:58I'm going with the Bills and the Dolphins, it's like, you know,
28:01I thought there might be a little bit of magic with Tua coming back.
28:04Maybe he takes a step now that it's going to be his second game into it,
28:06but I like Buffalo at home.
28:08Yeah, agreed.
28:09Josh Allen and the Bills own the Dolphins.
28:11They just beat them every time.
28:12I think the Dolphins, when Josh Allen is there,
28:15I think the Dolphins are 0-7 in Buffalo.
28:17So they're kind of the boogeyman for the Dolphins.
28:20And they're kind of in a good spot, too, where it's like everybody knows Josh Allen,
28:24everybody knows they're 6-2, but it's just not really talked about.
28:26They're just being that team out in the Northeast right now,
28:28just beat everybody's ass.
28:29And they have some weapons now.
28:31Keon Coleman is starting to really come into his own.
28:34Shakir is an unbelievable receiver.
28:35Marty Cooper being added.
28:37The tight ends, like, they can do everything.
28:39Yeah, they've got every weapon in the book.
28:42And they've got Josh.
28:43Yeah.
28:44And there's no bigger, stronger running back than Josh.
28:46Yeah.
28:47It's like trying to tackle Derrick Henry.
28:49Yeah.
28:50But, yeah, he just brings the extra dimension.
28:52Yeah.
28:53Okay.
28:54Dan, the Raiders at the Bengals.
28:56I hate this game.
28:57This is your I hate this game?
28:58I'm going to take the Bengals.
29:00I don't know.
29:01I don't know.
29:02The Bengals are just – I don't understand the Bengals.
29:05They're not good, but I will never stop believing in Joe Burrow.
29:09So I don't really know where to –
29:12Coach, like, I mean, we've talked about this, like, every week.
29:15It's like he's having an unbelievable season, especially early.
29:17And, like, they just keep – I mean, they're 3-5.
29:19Like, if as a head coach you're looking at somebody like Joe Burrow, like,
29:22what do we do?
29:23We've got Joe.
29:24Like, what's happening?
29:25Yeah, I mean, the demise of their defense is shocking.
29:28I know.
29:29Because Lou's such a great coach.
29:30And James Boettcher is one of my guys on that staff too.
29:32And they've been lighting it up defensively for the last three or four years.
29:36And all of a sudden everybody's caught up with something.
29:39Yeah, off a cliff.
29:40You know, it's like they've got to show up sooner or later.
29:43Yeah.
29:44And I would never put it past the Bengals to run out.
29:46Yeah.
29:47How much does, like, guys, the contract talks, and everything else seep into a team?
29:52Because there's, like, Hendrickson, he's talked about wanting to be extended.
29:55You've got Jamar Chase that was happening at the beginning of the year.
29:57T. Higgins.
29:58Yeah, T. Higgins.
29:59Like, how much does that affect, knowing that that was a focus of the conversation
30:03especially this Saturday?
30:04I think it affects September.
30:06No, it shouldn't be affecting anymore because it's all put to bed.
30:09You know, you're either not getting yours yet or you're going to get yours.
30:12Yeah.
30:13And there's never enough to go around.
30:16So it affects you.
30:18I think, obviously, when you have a shitty training camp, it's going to affect the first three ballgames.
30:23And you're not going to have a great camp without your guys in it.
30:27You know, I've seen it happen.
30:29But once they come back and they're all in, then it should be all in.
30:35Yeah.
30:36It should be mattering in November.
30:37Yeah.
30:38It should be rolling in November.
30:39Yeah.
30:40Because they don't have a big injury bug on them.
30:42Right.
30:43You know, like some of the teams do.
30:44Yeah.
30:45So, yeah, I would not put it past the Bengals to just run the table.
30:48Yeah.
30:49Yeah.
30:50At what point in the season, though, is it, like, too late?
30:51I mean, it's getting later.
30:53It's there, brother.
30:54Yeah, yeah.
30:55Okay, yeah.
30:56Halloween, brother.
30:57Yeah.
30:58It's spooky.
30:59The ghost is out there.
31:00Yeah, exactly.
31:01Okay, so, Will, who are you taking in the game?
31:02Give me the Raiders.
31:05I don't hate it.
31:06For whatever reason.
31:07Yeah, I don't hate it.
31:08Raiders plus seven.
31:09Yeah, I'm going to take the Bengals.
31:10I don't like it at all.
31:12Okay.
31:13All right, Will, the commanders at the Giants, the commanders minus three and a half.
31:16I think this line is weird.
31:18It only being three and a half points, I like the commanders a lot.
31:20You know, their offense is rolling.
31:22They had a lot of yards last week.
31:24They just need to turn their field goals into touchdowns.
31:26Giants played sloppy, 11 penalties.
31:28They put the ball on the ground twice or gave the ball to the other team twice.
31:32I just don't think the Giants have anything going for them.
31:36No.
31:37And I think Washington has all the spirit and the motivation and inspiration in the world to continue playing well.
31:42Coming off of a Hail Mary, obviously we've talked about Jaden Daniels all year long.
31:46The district is on fire.
31:47They've been begging for something like this.
31:49I like the commanders.
31:50Yeah, I like the commanders too.
31:51So, this one, and this might be just I'm thinking too much into it.
31:55But, Coach, tell me this.
31:57When Brian D'Abel has to come out and say Daniel Jones is still our quarterback, that always feels like a bad thing.
32:02It's a terrible thing.
32:03Okay.
32:04Whenever a coach says this guy's our quarterback, I mean, Blum did it with the Rex is still our quarterback.
32:08Yeah, I mean, you've got one team that's probably practicing as hard and having fun and smiling,
32:13and the other team's just looking around at each other all the time going, I don't know, man.
32:16Yeah.
32:17Is he really the guy?
32:18Right.
32:19And I'm a Daniel Jones fan.
32:20Yeah.
32:21You know, he beat us in his first game.
32:23I remember that game.
32:24Lit it up.
32:25Yeah.
32:26But I just don't, something's missing in New York.
32:29Yeah.
32:30I don't know what it is.
32:31You know, they had it kind of rolling Brian's first year.
32:33But now something's really missing, and it is a trap game for Washington right now.
32:38Yep.
32:39Because, you know, you can be practicing and having a lot of fun, but are you really focused?
32:43Yeah, especially after such an emotional win where it's like it goes reverse for what we talked about with the Bears.
32:48Like you let that win linger, it could bite you.
32:51I see Washington winning probably late.
32:54Yeah.
32:55Okay.
32:56Okay.
32:57All right, Dan, the Cowboys at the Falcons, the Falcons minus three.
33:00This one's easy to me.
33:01I'm taking the Falcons.
33:02The Cowboys are in deep, deep trouble.
33:04And it's both sides of the ball to me.
33:06Their defense can't stop the run.
33:09Their offense, what you've seen I think is they put so much money into DAC and CD.
33:16They don't have those, you can't win a football game with just a quarterback and a wide receiver.
33:21You need more guys who can catch balls over the middle and give different looks.
33:26So I just, it feels broken to me right now for the Cowboys.
33:29And the Falcons got a little bit, you know, humble pie two weeks ago with the Seahawks, kind of refocused, beat the Bucs.
33:35So I'm going to take the Falcons.
33:37Yeah.
33:38I'm with Dan and to add to that, just not on both sides of the ball, but the sideline, the locker room, the press box, the front office.
33:44We were talking about last week of how political it gets.
33:48Right.
33:49When stuff starts to hit the fan over there in Dallas.
33:50And I feel like this is a year where it just starts unraveling.
33:52Yeah.
33:53So I'm with you.
33:54I'm going with the Falcons.
33:55That had to be your least favorite part of the job, the politics involved.
33:57Totally.
33:58But Dak is an unbelievable leader.
34:01Yeah.
34:02All right.
34:03If there's anybody that can bring it back this week, it's Dak.
34:06And he'll say the right things to his teammates.
34:08He'll go out and do the right things.
34:10To me, this is a trap game for the Falcons.
34:14Okay.
34:15Big division win last week on the road.
34:17But I don't see them getting after Dak.
34:22Yeah, they don't.
34:23They don't.
34:24They get no sack.
34:25If you don't get after Dak, Dak will get after you.
34:27You're right.
34:28He doesn't hang his head.
34:29I don't think this is as easy one for the Falcons as people might think.
34:32Yeah, the Falcons.
34:33And the Cowboys are at Halloween.
34:34Yeah.
34:35Three and four.
34:36It's time.
34:37It's time.
34:38No, you're right.
34:39And the Falcons do not rush the passer well.
34:42They do not get sacks on the quarterback.
34:45And it's kind of crazy because they obviously added Matthew Judon.
34:48But, okay, that's just something to think about.
34:50That's good.
34:51Yeah.
34:52Yeah, he doesn't hang his head.
34:54Because he is right about Dak.
34:56Dak is like their one guy you can look at and lean on in moments like this.
35:01I just feel like he's just in a bad spot.
35:04He's just in a tough spot.
35:06He needs some help.
35:07Yeah, he needs some help, whether it's on defense.
35:09He needs something.
35:10Because you're right, if they don't get after him,
35:11he can definitely make you pay.
35:13Well, and the politics in Dallas are always going to be a little bit different
35:16just because of the way Jerry runs the team.
35:17So it's just kind of just a mess.
35:18Mike Zimmer knows Kirk Cousins pretty well, you know,
35:22having been his head coach.
35:23That's true.
35:26Zim will have something for Kirk.
35:29You guys both sticking with the Falcons?
35:30Yeah, I am.
35:31Yeah, I'm sticking with Kirk.
35:32I feel like an idiot.
35:33All right, well, the Patriots at the Titans.
35:36What a disgusting game.
35:37The 2-6 Patriots versus the 1-6 Titans.
35:40Titans minus 3.
35:41You should have known when you started with me that this is going to be the pass game.
35:44Okay, yeah, this is a pass game.
35:45I'm just going – and I'll do very quick.
35:48Teams after facing the Lions are 0-6 against the Spartans, 0-6 straight up.
35:52The Titans played the Lions last week.
35:54I don't like the Patriots in this game, but I'm going to just take it
35:56because I'm just going to ride that wave.
35:58Just ride it.
35:59Ride that wave.
36:00Find something.
36:01I'll go with that.
36:02Give me the –
36:03I'm on your surfboard too.
36:04Yeah, just ride the wave.
36:05Everybody's riding the wave.
36:06Just ride the wave.
36:07All right, jump on that surfboard.
36:08Let's go to the Saints at the Panthers, Dan.
36:09The Saints minus 7.5.
36:10Derrick Carr back.
36:12The Panthers are – they're just so bad.
36:16I don't – I mean, their low is just getting lower and lower and lower
36:22where it's just – I don't know what you do if you're the Panthers.
36:26You just don't have any guys and you just don't have any solutions.
36:29So, I'll take the Saints, but I – have you been on a team that's been like that?
36:34Have you been on a team that's like 1-7 that is –
36:37Yeah, I mean, but we – it was Peyton's first year.
36:40We're 3-13, but, man, we were getting better every week.
36:43Yeah.
36:44They're not.
36:45No, they're not.
36:46They're not getting better.
36:47They don't have Peyton, man.
36:48Right.
36:49They're building around Bryce like we did around Peyton.
36:53We went to practice every day and knew we were getting better.
36:55Right.
36:56They didn't show up that year, but the next year we were 13-3.
36:59Right.
37:00I don't see them being 13-3 next year.
37:02No, no.
37:03With the way they're handling their business right now.
37:04So, yeah, that's a big difference.
37:06How do you keep a locker room together when – I mean, everybody knows how bad they are.
37:09I mean, that locker room has to be just a disaster, right?
37:11Yeah, I mean, when they traded Deontay away, I don't know what was behind it,
37:16but that's never a good message for me as a head coach.
37:19I'm not giving away one of my best players.
37:21Right.
37:22If we're still fighting to win.
37:23Right.
37:24Right.
37:25And if we're fighting for draft picks, that's a different story.
37:26Right.
37:27That's a bad message to send to your players.
37:28Yeah, very bad.
37:29Right.
37:30And this is still –
37:31And a player, you know, what the hell are we doing?
37:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:34Who the hell is that fourth-round pick going to be?
37:35Yeah.
37:36When you're on a team like – I want to say we were 3-13, my practice squad,
37:39you're like everybody in the locker room is planning their New Year's plans.
37:43You know, they're getting everything scheduled out for their vacation
37:45right after the season's over.
37:46Like, guys are pretty checked out.
37:47They're checking out of Thanksgiving.
37:48Yeah.
37:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:50Let me ask you, you had – obviously you had Peyton his rookie year.
37:53We talked about how you were with Jameis Winston as well.
37:56Like, what are your thoughts when everybody kind of talks about all these
37:58quarterback conversations and rookie quarterbacks
38:00and keeping them in there to take their lumps.
38:02Dregg May was a topic of conversation.
38:03Hey, do you put them in or do you let them sit a year?
38:05Like, what was your kind of philosophy, especially being like the quarterback
38:08coach for somebody like Peyton who set the record for interceptions that year?
38:11Yeah, I mean, for me, you don't learn anything holding a clipboard.
38:15First of all, you're not getting any reps in practice.
38:18Peyton took every rep in practice.
38:21Tom Moore has the best statement.
38:22Somebody said, what happens if Peyton gets hurt?
38:25He said, we're fucked and we don't practice anymore.
38:27That's true.
38:30Yeah.
38:31So it's like – and then next year, all the interceptions are down.
38:35Andrew Luck was amazing as a rookie.
38:37Yeah.
38:38I mean, we win seven games in the last two minutes.
38:42Now, thank God we were playing for Chuck.
38:44We had this thing playing for Chuck that year with his sickness.
38:48And we're getting guys off the street and I'm the interim guy
38:51and I don't even know their names.
38:53And I always tell the story, we're playing Kansas City and we get a big sag.
38:59And I said, who the hell is that?
39:00It's Jamal Westerman.
39:01Jamal, great job, buddy.
39:04I'll never forget his name.
39:08Who are you guys taking in the game?
39:09I'm taking the Saints.
39:10Yeah, I'll go Saints.
39:11Okay.
39:12All right, we'll Jags at Eagles, Eagles minus 7.5.
39:15I like a Peterson game here, going back to Philly.
39:19They like Peterson more than they do Sirianni in Philly.
39:22Give me the Jaguars.
39:24All right, I'll ride with you.
39:25Give me the Jaguars plus 7.5.
39:27Yeah, yeah.
39:28Okay.
39:29Coach, is that true with him going back to Philly?
39:31Does that play into his mind at all at least?
39:33I think Doug is probably over it now.
39:35But when you win a Super Bowl with a team and you get let go and your statue is still out there, it's different.
39:41Yeah.
39:42That doesn't happen very often.
39:43Yeah.
39:44But there's something about the Eagles.
39:47There's so much talent there.
39:48So much.
39:49Yeah.
39:50Sooner or later, they've got to flip it and quit going for it on fourth down and kick some damn field goals and win games.
39:57Oh, I've got a question for you about going for it on fourth down and that kind of stuff.
40:01Let's say you're down 14 late and you score a touchdown.
40:05Are you going for two?
40:06No.
40:07That's wrong.
40:08That's probably why you're not coaching anymore.
40:12Dan looked at me right before he was like, here we go, an analytics guy.
40:15Is that the book?
40:16Yeah, because it's essentially…
40:17Okay, now you've heard my statement.
40:19Yeah.
40:20Who wrote the fucking book?
40:21Some nerd, probably.
40:22It wasn't Lombardi.
40:23Yeah, I know.
40:24It wasn't Balachaga.
40:25It wasn't Chula.
40:26But if you…
40:27Hey, listen, if you trust your offense, you can get a two-point conversion more than 50% of the time.
40:30It makes sense.
40:31What mathematician says that, though?
40:33If your offense is good.
40:35Yeah, obviously it's team-dependent.
40:38If the Panthers are down 14 and going, I wouldn't go for two because they don't have a good offense.
40:42Dan Campbell would go for two.
40:44Yeah, if you've got a good offense, you've got a good play.
40:45I bet he does.
40:46He does.
40:47I bet he still regrets not kicking those field goals against San Francisco and going to the…
40:50Yes, sir.
40:51Yes, sir.
40:52Going up by three.
40:53Their kicker wasn't that good.
40:54Going up by three scores.
40:55Their kicker wasn't that good.
40:56You don't give up a chance to go up three scores.
40:59In the championship game.
41:00It did not go the way you wanted it to.
41:02No, it did not.
41:03No, it did not.
41:04But if it would have gone that way, it would have been legendary.
41:05I know.
41:06Yeah.
41:07Legendary.
41:08Okay, Sunday night football, Will.
41:09The Colts at the Vikings.
41:10Vikings minus five.
41:11Man, obviously I've been high on the Vikings all year.
41:14Tough loss last week against the Rams, but Joe Flacco, them making the call for the Colts,
41:22I like the spot they're in.
41:24Minnesota's going to be tough to play.
41:27But with five points, I like the Colts.
41:30Here's the thing with the – I like the Colts as well.
41:32Here's the thing with the Vikings defense.
41:34You can blitz like Brian Flores has blitzed to start the season,
41:39but eventually you're going to have to get guys winning one-on-one.
41:42Like you can't blitz all year because you just leave – especially against a guy like Joe Flacco.
41:46But this was the other game I was happy the coach was here for
41:49because what's going on in Indianapolis, I don't really understand it.
41:52I'm not a big Anthony Richardson guy.
41:56Why do you bench the guy if you knew it was going to be bumpy and you picked him fourth?
42:00And like you said, you can't get better when you're holding the clipboard.
42:04I don't really see – I love Joe Flacco.
42:06Joe Flacco definitely gives them a better chance to win today.
42:10Are they going to win a Super Bowl this year?
42:12Probably – no?
42:13No.
42:14So why aren't you taking your lumps with Anthony Richardson and keeping him out there?
42:17Is it because of the – taking himself out of the game?
42:21No, I think it's because they're close enough to get in the playoffs.
42:24Okay.
42:25All right, in that division right now.
42:27And getting in the playoffs is the only way to win a Super Bowl.
42:30Yeah.
42:31All right, so if you want your guys showing up every single day,
42:34they want to have a chance to go to the playoffs.
42:36All right, Joe gives them a chance to go to the playoffs.
42:38Is Anthony done?
42:40I don't think so, but he had so far to go when they drafted him.
42:45I don't know if there's ever been a pick in the top five with his stats in the history of the NFL.
42:52Crazy.
42:53And so, yeah, you knew you were taking lumps.
42:56But we're good enough to go to the playoffs.
42:58So –
42:59Let's go to the playoffs.
43:00Once you get in the tournament, anybody's game.
43:02And they can still have a package because he can bring some things in a package that –
43:07now your defense has to work on two quarterbacks.
43:09Yeah.
43:10So if they're doing that, I'm all in favor of it.
43:12Do you think it has a little bit to do with him taking himself out of the game?
43:16Because that was a bad look.
43:18Totally.
43:19Yeah, I mean that was – you'd lose a locker room with that.
43:21Oh, yeah.
43:22I mean, you've got offensive linemen that are probably playing with, you know,
43:24messed up knees, ankles, all kinds of injuries.
43:26Oh, bro.
43:27You're tapping out at the quarterback position.
43:29No, I'm not.
43:30At least lie and say, oh, something was happening.
43:32Yeah, like I thought I got hit in the head or something.
43:34But if you're tired, like, just get a run player.
43:36Like, do something.
43:37Yeah.
43:38Not a good look.
43:39Not a good look.
43:40Not a good look.
43:41Not a good look.
43:42That was bad.
43:43Okay, Dan, finish off Monday night football.
43:44The Bucs at the Chiefs.
43:45Chiefs minus eight and a half.
43:46I mean, I think the Bucs are – I love Baker.
43:49So I'm going to take Baker.
43:51I ride with Baker.
43:52So that's – he – even with Godwin and Evans out,
43:56you thought that they would be screwed, but Baker's just a gamer.
44:00Like, he was still in that game against the Falcons late.
44:03They've got to figure some stuff out defensively, though.
44:06It feels like they've been lost a little bit defensively the last few weeks.
44:10Yeah, but I'm with you.
44:11Eight and a half points, I like the Bucs.
44:13I know the Chiefs are 7-0.
44:15They're undefeated.
44:17But to me, they are not the best team in football.
44:19Lions?
44:20Yeah, I think.
44:21You watch – I mean, Mahomes, he's got more interceptions than touchdowns.
44:25I know.
44:26I know he's going to come alive at some point.
44:27Like, he just – no matter what, you're going to say he's going to come alive
44:30because it's Patrick Mahomes.
44:31He's got the Super Bowls.
44:32He's got everything.
44:33But collectively, the records of their opponents is 25 and 30.
44:36The Bucs, I just feel like, you know, I like the spot they're in.
44:39They were in a bad spot last week.
44:41You lose Godwin.
44:42You lose Evans.
44:43You feel like, oh, you hate it for them because they had such a good thing going.
44:45But Baker to come out and be a gamer, still hit nine different targets,
44:49and, you know, be the gamer that he is, I like him.
44:52I like him in this spot.
44:53And I think the Chiefs is going to be –
44:55obviously, I think they're going to lose at some point this year.
44:57But I just feel like it's – it doesn't feel like a real 7-0.
45:00Yeah.
45:01Coach, what are you seeing from this game?
45:02Yeah, I think this is going to be a tough one.
45:04And I love Baker.
45:05Yeah.
45:06He's my guy.
45:07And they do have other weapons.
45:09You know, those backs they have.
45:11And Liam Cohen has done a great job in his first year.
45:14I don't know if I've seen anybody averaging close to 30 points a game
45:18in a first-year takeover in a new offense.
45:22So it's a credit to the guys buying in.
45:25Defensively, I never bet against Todd Bowles.
45:29You know, he's playing with a short deck with the corners that he's got, you know,
45:33a couple of young guys in there.
45:35The injury bug has hit him hard defensively in the back end.
45:38But as a betting man, I never bet against 15.
45:43Yeah, Mahomes.
45:45Even in the Super Bowl.
45:47It's so crazy.
45:48I never felt comfortable until we got the last interception
45:51because we hit him one time and he's laying flat, flying through there,
45:56and throws one and hits a guy right in the face.
45:58It was the greatest –
45:59I'm like, that's impossible.
46:00It was the greatest incompletion in Super Bowl history.
46:02Unbelievable.
46:03It was.
46:04I think they caught Mike Evans and the guys on the sideline on film going,
46:06this dude is unbelievable.
46:07Yeah.
46:08He was literally completely vertical on the ground,
46:10throwing it like 30 yards down the field.
46:12Going out and working out quarterbacks
46:14and meeting with quarterbacks over the last 27 years,
46:17he was one of the most impressive interviews I've ever done.
46:20Are you saying pre-draft?
46:21Pre-draft.
46:22Wow.
46:23Why is that?
46:24Imagine if you pitched Mitch Krischke over him.
46:26Well, when I took Peyton and I took Andrew,
46:31they're cerebral off the charts.
46:34Pat was right there with them.
46:36We put stuff on the board, you know, out in the middle of the workout.
46:40I said, I'm the weak safety, it's man protection.
46:43How do you fix it?
46:44He gave us the right call.
46:47And it's like, all right, slide protection, here comes the strong safety.
46:49He gave us the right call.
46:50I look at Byron Lefkowitz.
46:52Byron said, man, that took most guys three years.
46:54Yeah.
46:55He got it in a meeting and got it right.
46:59And then he's throwing it into a 30-mile-an-hour wind like it's nothing.
47:02Yeah.
47:03So it was super impressive in Lubbock that night.
47:05Yeah.
47:06And the Chiefs, I mean, the Chiefs defense is great.
47:08They are.
47:09They stand up.
47:10Spags.
47:11Spags.
47:12Spags is going to have them now.
47:13That game against the Raiders,
47:14like that was a game that if they don't have that defensive performance,
47:17the Raiders, I think, started the second half, they got a pick.
47:20Yeah, I think they got a punt return with the penalty tacked on.
47:23They started at the 28-yard line of the Chiefs,
47:26and then they got a pick and started at the three-yard line of the Chiefs.
47:28So two times, they got three points out of it.
47:30Right.
47:31Like that's how you win football games.
47:33Like your defense bows up in those big moments.
47:36Nobody gets more free hitters to the quarterback than Spags.
47:39Yeah.
47:40I mean, his blitz design has been off the charts for 20-some years.
47:44You know, he learned it from Jim Johnson, who was one of the best ever.
47:47Like there's only one guy out here on the slot.
47:50He can't blitz.
47:51He's coming.
47:52As a quarterback, you're like, I'm good over here.
47:54And you get hit in the back of the head.
47:55It's like, no, Spags is awesome.
47:57Yeah.
47:58I love football.
47:59I love fun.
48:00That's such a will quote.
48:01I love football.
48:02Okay, time for hot takes, Dan.
48:03You have a hot take for Week 9?
48:06I'll say that Bijon is going to have three touchdowns.
48:10Okay.
48:11I don't think the Cowboys have an answer for Bijon.
48:13I think he's already broken out.
48:15He's already an incredible player.
48:16But I think this is like a whoa type of game for him.
48:19Give me Bo Nix, 250-plus with three touchdowns against the Ravens.
48:23Wow.
48:24Yeah, Ravens' secondary is banged up.
48:27What do you think?
48:28Jerry, you got a hot take?
48:29Yeah, Jerry, you got a hot take?
48:31Yeah, I got a hot take.
48:32What is it?
48:33Steelers are going to the Super Bowl this year.
48:34Oh.
48:35Yeah?
48:36I've seen it already, yeah.
48:37Coach, what do you think about the Steelers?
48:39They're doing a hell of a job.
48:41Yeah?
48:42Hell of a job.
48:43Tomlin's the best.
48:44I mean, winning with Justin the way they won, now winning with Russ,
48:47but that defense is legit.
48:49That's the best Steeler defense I've seen in a couple years.
48:51Yeah.
48:52If they stay healthy.
48:53And I said it on PMT on Monday,
48:56but I don't know why I ever, ever, ever doubt Mike Tomlin
49:00because it's so stupid.
49:01Like the switching from Justin Fields to Russell Wilson,
49:04I thought that was a weird move when you have a 4-2 football team.
49:07You've seen it.
49:08Like the offense, and I like Justin Fields,
49:10but the offense looks different.
49:12And George Pickens is now involved in a way that he was not involved
49:15that's just, it's a game changer.
49:18Yeah, when you have a deep ball accurate quarterback,
49:21the receivers are ready to play.
49:23Yeah.
49:24You know, and you see George get frustrated all the time.
49:26I'm open, there goes the ball over my head,
49:28and all of a sudden now it's dropping in the basket
49:30or I can at least make a play on this ball.
49:33Yeah.
49:34And Russell's going to give him that ball
49:35that he can make a play on all the time.
49:37I just worry about the Steelers if they get into a team
49:41that can really rush the passer.
49:42Yeah, I know.
49:44I know.
49:45I do think, I think the Chiefs get their first loss on Christmas this year
49:50to the Steelers.
49:51Come to Pittsburgh late in the year, cold, tough,
49:55Steelers defense, light them up.
49:57I do.
49:58Listen, I don't think my homies will win the Super Bowl this year.
50:00I don't think they are.
50:01No.
50:02I don't think so.
50:03I don't think this is their year.
50:04No.
50:05The Steelers?
50:07I really want it to be.
50:08But I think at the very minimum,
50:10I think the Steelers make the AFC Championship game this year.
50:13Okay.
50:14At the very minimum, I do.
50:15When you have a receiver like Pickens
50:16or somebody like checking out visibly,
50:20like that people bring up, you know, week after week,
50:23look at them on this route here, look at them on this route there,
50:25how do you have those conversations in your meeting room?
50:30First of all, I never had one.
50:32Well.
50:33I had one.
50:34Yeah, you had one.
50:36As a rookie.
50:37Oh.
50:38As a rookie.
50:39Oh.
50:40You didn't have one that left in the middle of the game?
50:42Uh-oh.
50:43He was asked to.
50:44Okay.
50:47But, yeah, it starts in practice,
50:52and it starts with your room, your position coach,
50:56and the leaders in your room, all right?
50:59The Steelers always had great leadership in every room.
51:03Hines would not allow certain things to happen, you know,
51:07and he controlled that room.
51:09It was easy for me as a coordinator because Hines was going to control the room.
51:12Yeah.
51:13And there's never enough balls to go around,
51:15but you can't show it on the field.
51:20You can get in the locker room, throw your helmet, bust shit,
51:22do whatever you want to, all right,
51:24but you can't show it on the field to your teammates.
51:26And, like I said, when I think of the receivers I named earlier
51:31who were all going to the Hall of Fame, none of them were that way.
51:36Yeah.
51:37Yeah.
51:38It's true.
51:39They were all selfless, not selfish.
51:41Yeah.
51:42It's true.
51:43All right, time for a new survivor pool because everybody's won or lost.
51:49I get it.
51:50Everybody's back in.
51:51Everybody's back in.
51:52It's one and one.
51:53Dan won last week.
51:54He won?
51:55Yeah.
51:56Yeah, he won.
51:57So you have one point.
51:58And Dan has one point.
51:59So, Dan, I'm going to let you go first.
52:01Yeah, we're at a disadvantage, Jerry, because Will has no –
52:04he has every team available because he's been out.
52:06Yeah, but I lose every time.
52:08All right, I'll take the Saints.
52:09I'll take the Saints.
52:10Jerry?
52:11Vikings.
52:12Will?
52:13Give me a minute.
52:15Am I picking for the guest chair?
52:16Yeah.
52:17So, I'm going to take the Commanders for the guest chair.
52:19Let me get the Bills.
52:22Okay.
52:23Because you just want to win one.
52:24Yeah, I got to do something.
52:26You know what I mean?
52:27I know I'm using a team right there.
52:28I got to get something.
52:29Coach, he loses every single week.
52:31Every time I'm in this thing, I lose the first week
52:33and I just sit and listen to everybody else.
52:34I have to win.
52:35Let's go.
52:36Josh Allen and the Bills.
52:37All right, Coach, thanks for being here.
52:39Anything else?
52:40Yeah, so much fun.
52:41You're the best.
52:42Just talking ball.
52:43Yeah.
52:44Just talking ball with the boys.
52:45Yeah.
52:46It's the best.
52:47It's been awesome.
52:48It's been great.
52:49Thank you so much for being here and we'll see you guys next week.
