00:00It is all hands on deck, a totality of government effort in dealing with Typhoon Leon, a.k.a.
00:06Kongre, that just slammed into Batanes province earlier today.
00:11And the president says the national government and local government units are closely working
00:15together in control of the disaster response.
00:18PTV's Kenneth Paciente tells us more.
00:28Batanes felt the wrath of Typhoon Leon.
00:31In this video from Batanes Police Provincial Office around 2 a.m. today, strong rains and
00:35howling winds pummeled the island province.
00:38The waves in several coastal areas are high due to the pounding wind, causing trees to
00:43bend down.
00:44Due to Typhoon Leon, the oldest church in the town of Itbayat, Santa Maria de Mayan
00:48Church, was damaged.
00:50Amid the onslaught of Typhoon Leon, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ensured a whole-of-government
00:55approach in responding to the disaster.
00:57The president stated that the government is closely monitoring its response to the
01:01typhoon's impact.
01:02Although resources have dwindled due to consecutive typhoons, the president assured that the country
01:06has sufficient assets to minimize the impacts, ensure swift recovery for those affected,
01:12and restore damaged areas.
01:13The chief executive also guaranteed continuous relief and recovery efforts for those impacted
01:18by Typhoons Christine and Leon.
01:20The president added that all government branches remain alert and ready to provide assistance
01:24at any time.
01:25Meanwhile, the SWD Region 2 continues to assist families currently sheltering in evacuation
01:30centers.
01:31The agency has distributed food packs and sleeping kits to affected individuals.
01:35Authorities also evacuated families living in high-risk areas, such as landslide-prone
01:40zones.
01:41The DRRMC in Batanes also worked to clear roads blocked by rocks, dirt, and debris due
01:46to landslides.
01:48On the other hand, the government has allocated Php 895.658 million to provide aid to those
01:54affected by Typhoons Christine and Leon.
01:57According to the NDRRMC, this allocation covers food and non-food items from DSWD, OCD, and
02:04local governments, as well as donations from various non-government organizations.
