00:20We're doing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 camera vlog test today and if you're new to the channel,
00:26that's when I run around, shoot stuff, vlog with the phone's camera so you see for yourself
00:31just how they perform in real life scenarios.
00:34So for context, this phone has two 12 megapixel cameras on the rear here and that's a 10 megapixel
00:40selfie camera.
00:41Similar to last year's Z Flip cameras but the main difference would be that there's
00:44a cover screen now so that makes it easier for you to take your selfies.
00:49And speaking of selfies, I'm gonna do a challenge.
00:51Just because this phone's form factor is so conjucive to selfie-ing and taking your
00:56own Instagram shots, I'm gonna do an Instagram photo challenge at the beach.
01:01Because as you can see now, even for this shot, I have the Instagram boyfriend shooting
01:05me.

01:07And well, this is the perfect opportunity to show you firsthand what this phone can
01:11do.
01:12Let's start with flex mode.
01:13There you go.
01:14Flex mode, ladies and gentlemen.
01:15We're shooting with a selfie camera right now and it's really, really easy to do this.
01:25Honestly, let's get to the vlog.
01:29To say that Hawaii is beautiful is an understatement.
01:33Proof of this, you will see in this video.
01:36It's my first time in Oahu and of course, we're out to explore.
01:39We are headed for Makaha Beach on the leeward side, but first, coffee.
01:44Joshua, who was shooting with a Z Fold 3 on this particular day, found us a good spot.
01:58I can't stress this enough, but I love how tiny this thing is.
02:01It's so easy and convenient to carry around, even when I have other stuff in my hands or
02:06even when I'm picking up other things like food, for example, which was our next stop.
02:17In Oahu, everything is a scenic drive away and boy, did we enjoy those drives.
02:23Makaha is a quieter, less populated beach and the wide-angle cameras of the Z Flip did
02:30capture that beauty.
02:32This phone also has 10x zoom as you saw in my camera tour, but it's not the best we've
02:38seen on a smartphone.
02:40That selfie camera also reps a wide-angle shot, which is perfect for capturing not just
02:46you, but whoever you're with in beautiful places.
03:13Just look at the water.
03:14I am shooting in FHD 30fps and this is with a steady mode.
03:22Walking and talking, walking into the water, looks so good.
03:38The mountains here are not just in front of you, they're also behind you.
03:58We're at full HD 30fps.
04:00There is a wide, 1x up until 10x and then wide back to 1x.
04:12Full HD 60fps, this time there is no wide, but you can still do up until 10x.
04:20Oh, there.
04:244k this time, 30fps, 1x wide and then we got 10x.
04:374k 60fps, no wide as well, but you can also still zoom up until 10x.
04:49On the flex mode again and this is a pretty fun way to shoot.

05:09I mean, okay, those are good selfies, but we can do better with the main cameras and
05:13the cover screen.
05:14Necessity is the mother of invention and let's just say that my necessary Instagram photos
05:21allowed me to be inventive with the Z Flip 3's form factor to get the photos I want
05:27while Joshua was busy shooting his own camera test.
05:35I honestly love that this phone's folding nature leads to versatile solutions for
05:42selfie-taking, like pictured.
05:45Just make sure you're careful and that you don't drop this flip in the sand because
05:50while this new flip does have an IP rating, it's still not sandproof.
05:55All things considered, I think this solution did turn up well for my photos and pro-tip
06:02you guys, single take mode is your friend.
06:05Shooting this way is cool.
06:08I've showed you this at the start, but what I realized as I was taking my Instagram photos
06:15is that shooting this way is even better.
06:18Let me show you how I'm shooting.
06:20This is what we're doing right now.
06:21We're in the middle of the desert.

06:30the middle of the desert and we're in the middle of the desert.
06:36So we have the cover mode on and we have video mode on.
06:40And since we're shooting with these two cameras, it's even better quality.
06:45Even on wide angle, look at how this looks.
06:47Here is the thing.
06:49We have flex mode on here, which is pretty cool.
06:51You can do this front, rear, and you can even move the viewfinder to lower or higher.
07:00And this is how you turn on the cover screen.
07:03See?
07:05What's also pretty cool about this, and this is how I shot the other video when we were
07:10at the beach.
07:11For video, you can do 16 by 9, which is great for vlogging.
07:14Turn on the cover camera and basically shoot with your phone propped up on something like
07:21this.
07:21But the deal is, if you shoot 16 by 9, meaning the orientation is this way, that won't allow
07:27you to shoot in 4K.
07:28So when the form factor is this way and you're shooting this way propped up on something,
07:33you can do 4K.
07:35Solution would be really to just go on a 9 by 16 orientation and then turn on cover screen
07:44and you can prop up your phone like sort of like this.
07:49Because then this would be like how the view is.
07:53Again, it's like this, you turn it around and just use the phone to prop it up like
07:59so.
08:00But then the cover screen would not be the right shape for it.
08:05But at least you still get a preview and if you can see yourself in the cover screen,
08:10you're gonna probably be in the middle of the shot.
08:13Alright, doing another coffee run because we getting sleepy.
08:20Oh frick.
08:24Are you live or not?
08:24I'm the one who's driving.
08:34So I'm shooting with the phone completely closed and looking at the cover screen right
08:40now.
08:41So we're shooting via the cover screen as well.
08:43And I was just telling Joshua that one of my pet peeves about this phone is that when
08:48you're on the mode that allows you to shoot with many different settings on this phone
08:54and then you turn on the cover screen, like you can only do that when the phone isn't
09:00completely closed.
09:02To shoot with this phone completely closed, you have to go to that selfie mode and that
09:07selfie mode does shoot in wide and 1x but it only shoots in square.
09:14But Joshua made a very good point about that.
09:18Since it's supposed to be the quick selfie with the cover screen, it seems to me that
09:24it's square because they just want you to have enough room to be able to do any of the
09:29things you want to do with the video.
09:30If you put it into an app that wants the 16x9, it's the same thing as using the 16x9 aspect
09:35ratio in the main camera anyway.
09:37But then if you want to do a vertical video like on TikTok or IG stories, at least you
09:41don't lose too much on the top and bottom because it's a square.
09:44So they're just cutting out the square in the middle to give you a little bit of the
09:47verticality and just the same horizontal crop that you would get using the other aspect
09:53ratio anyway.
09:54I mean it will make sense except I'm still not used to it I guess.
09:58So a little bit of a learning curve there.
10:00I'm editing out portrait video and it looks unreal in this background.
10:11It looks so good.
10:13You're gonna want to use this for B-roll, babe.
10:15So this is quite interesting.
10:16I can do selfie portrait video and I'm shooting while using the cover as a preview.
10:25Unfortunately for some reason, portrait video does not do 16x9 at all.
10:31So I guess to shoot 16x9 videos, if you want to shoot 16x9 videos straight, you just have
10:38to reposition your camera and this is what you do.
10:46But as you can see now, I can't really, I have to sort of prop it up again to get the
10:52right angle.
10:58Sort of works.
11:03It's supposed to be a one-day camera vlog test but the next place looks so nice I just
11:08needed to take some photos.
11:10We're at the Byodoin Temple in Hawaii which commemorates the very first Japanese immigrants
11:16here.
11:16It's a smaller scale replica of the Byodoin Temple in Japan.
11:20It's beautiful, serene, perfect for wide angle shots.
11:25There was lush greenery, some awesome looking koi, and even this duck that I zoomed into.
11:31Of course, I couldn't resist some selfies.
11:33These are candid shots by Joshua on his fold so you can check out that video on his channel.
11:40Though I also got some nice shots thanks to the cover screen on my own.
11:45And in a breathtakingly beautiful place, one only hopes to do justice by taking great shots.
11:52For the most part, the Z Flip 3 cameras stepped up.
11:55These aren't the best cameras you can find on a smartphone right now.
11:58After all, these are the same cameras that we find on the Z Flip 2 but they are the best
12:04cameras you can find on a foldable that folds in this orientation with a cover screen.
12:10That says a lot because the best photos are actually ones that you are able to take.
12:16Sure, there are kinks to the cover screen like how some parts of the photos, because
12:20it gets cropped out by the cover screen, tend to be just the floor, your fingers, or how
12:24it can't shoot 4K in certain orientations, or even just how it allows you to only shoot
12:30squares on selfie mode.
12:31And sure, I'd like those selfie cameras upgraded because I like shooting in the clamshell
12:36configuration with those selfie cameras.
12:38And thank god Samsung didn't put their in-display 4MP selfie camera on here like they did to
12:43the Fold.
12:44But right now, I'm not even mad because I'm just busy having fun shooting and carrying
12:50this phone around.
12:51And besides, even if these cameras are not the best, they're actually still quite good.
12:56All things considered, definitely one of the phones that I'll keep reaching for.
