00:00We're talking about the successor of my favorite phone of last year, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
00:05Samsung just announced a couple of things, the new Z Flip 4, the new Fold 4, and even new buds and watch.
00:12But you all already knew, I'm zeroing in on that flip.
00:22Good day, you beautiful people. Welcome to Des Tec, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:27And this is the new Samsung Z Flip 4.
00:30Now it looks the same, but it's magic.
00:58Okay, it's not, but it's pretty cool and it comes with improvements.
01:00It still folds into a nifty little size that's just
01:03perfect to carry around with my tiny hands and put in my tiny pockets.
01:07But let's start off with a question that's on everyone's mind.
01:10Yes, this is a more durable flip, at least what Samsung claims.
01:14Made out of armor aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus, Samsung promises 300,000 folds,
01:20which is 100,000 more folds than what they promised for the last flip.
01:24We also have the same IPX8 rating found on the Z Flip 3,
01:28which means 30 minutes in 1.5 meter deep water.
01:32But we all know that that doesn't mean it's dustproof,
01:34so I don't think I'll be recommending this phone for the beach anytime soon.
01:37Although I already did that with my previous flip and it was fine.
01:42But again, not recommended.
01:43The main improvement of the Z Flip though, in terms of hardware, isn't one that we saw on the spec sheet.
01:49The hinge on the new Z Flip 4 just feels smoother, sturdier.
01:54It's just an even more satisfying flipping experience.
01:57But most importantly, well at least to me, this Z Flip now comes in pink.
02:02I mean, I know we had a pink version.
02:04My Z Flip 3 is a Samsung exclusive pink, which I picked up from the website.
02:08And the biggest comment I got about this phone was how people love the color
02:11but wish that the black borders match the pink better.
02:15People now have their wish without ordering bespoke flips, although in a lighter shade of pink.
02:19And well, now we have blue, graphite, more purple, and pink gold.
02:24And yes, these are matte phones with matching non-black borders.
02:31So here are the Z Flip 3 and the Z Flip 4 side by side.
02:35Obviously, the one with the black borders is the Z Flip 3.
02:39Like I said, there really isn't much of a difference.
02:42Everything is still where everything used to be.
02:45Buttons, fingerprint scanner, selfie cameras.
02:48All where they used to be.
02:50Even that folding screen feels the same.
02:52And even if there's less of a crease, well, I wouldn't really notice anyway
02:56because when you're on this phone, you really stop noticing the crease when you're using it.
03:02Upon further inspection between these two phones though,
03:05you'll notice that the new Z Flip 4 is a little more square.
03:08And it's looking like that gap is also a little wider.
03:12Maybe why the crease is less deep.
03:16Also, aside from a new paint job and a more satisfying and hopefully more durable flip,
03:21they added something that I wanted the Z Flip to do for so long.
03:25There are now more cover screen features.
03:28For one, I absolutely love the selfie and video capabilities on the previous flip cover,
03:33but it was pretty limited.
03:35You can only, for example, only shoot square photos and vids on the cover,
03:39which is, again, pretty limiting.
03:41I mean, if Instagram has switched away from square media, right?
03:45But now you can do vertical images and video,
03:48perfect for, I don't know, TikTok-ing on the go or taking quick selfies
03:52you can post on Instagram stories.
03:54Even shooting with a phone now allows for optimized viewing.
03:58The previous Z Flip only allowed for viewing full screen on the cover screen.
04:03So, for example, if you shoot different dimensions,
04:06which you can do with the main cameras and preview on the cover screen,
04:09you only see that cut-off area, which, fair, it is a smaller screen after all.
04:13But now, you can also view everything as portrait,
04:17much to my delight, and as is evidenced by my reaction
04:21when I first discovered you could do that.
04:27Oh my god!
04:29That's so cool.
04:33One can always argue that that's too small of a screen to actually see anything on,
04:38but even for blocking purposes, this helps.
04:41This is a hill I'm willing to die on.
04:44In terms of camera, Samsung promises a brighter selfie experience
04:49with a 65% brighter selfie lens.
04:53On the main cameras, better nitrography, better stability and focus,
04:57and also a better portrait mode.
04:59Things I'm curious to test out myself.
05:01Meantime, here are some sample shots.
05:13So,
05:38improvements are not only limited to camera capabilities.
05:40There will be more functionality, finally, for the cover screen.
05:44You'll be able to reply and take calls, expand widgets and more services,
05:48and even access quick settings from the cover screen.
05:51I am personally excited for these features because as fun as the Z Flip 3 cover screen is,
05:57it's been pretty limited to just previews.
05:59And though I didn't have time to test out all these features
06:02because the time I did have with the Z Flip 4 was pretty limited,
06:06we'll check that out when I get myself a review unit of the Z Flip 4.
06:11I promise.
06:12There are also now more cover screen options.
06:15You can now add videos as cover screen backgrounds,
06:18which means any video you shoot, you can now put on your cover screen,
06:21which, why not, right?
06:30You can also now put cute AR emojis as your cover screen background,
06:34and you can match the background to the cover screen
06:38to the background on your Galaxy Watch.
06:43Finally, the Z Flip 4 now has an improved battery capacity.
06:47This phone now reps 3,700 mAh that the previous flip repped.
06:52You also get fast charging that will get you 50% in 30 minutes.

07:27going back to the whole of last year.
07:30So yeah, I've been on the Z Flip 3.
