00:00You guys, finally part of team PIXL and look at what just came in.
00:04🎶
00:14Good day, you beautiful people. Welcome to Isa Does Tech where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:19In today's video, we have a PIXL in the house. Now, the last time I was on a PIXL was a while back.
00:24I was still working on the tech publication and I held on to the Google PIXL. I've told you guys
00:29the story a couple of times but PIXLs hold a special place in my heart because it was a PIXL
00:35actually, the Google PIXL 2 that converted me fully to Android use. I mean, at that point in time,
00:40the PIXL 2 cameras were just so good that I just needed to have the phone on me 24x7. That was a 2
00:48and this is a 5 now, 5A with the 6 coming in the next few months, probably. But before we get into
00:54all of that, let's unbox. Really excited for this unboxing. We have the PIXL 5A 5G. Yes, friends,
01:01I am part of team PIXL now so expect even more PIXL stuff on the channel. Yes! Back of the box,
01:08it tells us that we have the 128GB version in mostly black.
01:13🎶
01:17Ooh, look at that. Look at the texture on this. I like how when you open the box,
01:21they basically just went, here's the phone. So let's look at that a little bit later. First,
01:26let's see what else is in the box. Some instructions on how to put your SIM in.
01:31That's a really cute SIM eject tool.
01:36Paperwork. I gotta say, I've reviewed PIXLs before but this is actually the first time I'm
01:42unboxing one so it's quite a special experience for me. There's a power brick, props. There's also
01:49this adapter. Pretty interesting. That is a USB to USB-C. And of course, your power cord. There is
01:59nothing else in the box. On to the phone. So this is a very dark black but it's not too black,
02:07it's almost green. So that's sort of a rubberized back. Google PIXL logo down there. Fingerprint
02:16scanner on the back. Ladies and gents, we also have an audio port. That's an almost non-existent
02:24hump on the back. This is a two cam setup after all. We have a power button, volume rockers,
02:30charging port at the bottom, and of course, your SIM tray. Let's power it up and set it
02:35up and in the meantime, let me show you some glorious shots with this phone's specs.
02:41So how is the Google PIXL 5A different from the Google PIXL 4A 5G? After all, they really look the
02:48same. And when they launched, both were priced at the same price. So let's take a look at the
02:54specs of the Google PIXL 5A. So this is the Google PIXL 5A 5G. It's a 5G smartphone. It's a 5G
03:01smartphone. It's a 5G smartphone. It's a 5G smartphone. It's a 5G smartphone. It's a 5G
03:08smartphone. They look the same. When they launched, both were priced at $499. Well, three
03:13things. First, the PIXL 5A now has a metal unibody. Second, this has an IP67 rating. And lastly, this
03:21has a bigger 4620mAh battery. Now, to me, it's looking more and more like the Google 5A is
03:28positioned to replace what the Google 4A 5G is giving to the market right now although the 4A 5Gs
03:35still on sale at the same $500 price tag, we checked and most Google stores have sold
03:41out.
03:42So I guess you're looking at more or less that phone's replacement.
03:44I mean, end of day, if you're looking at the Pixel 4a 5G anyway, you might as well get
03:49this newer version at the same price.
03:52Or if you want something more, there's always the Pixel 5 or in a few months, the Pixel
03:566.
03:57Probably.
03:58Okay folks, camera tour time and that was the fingerprint scanner on the back.
04:03Onto camera, we have wide, 1x, 2x, up until 7x and you have adjustments here.
04:17That's brightness.
04:18What's this?
04:19Oh no, this is brightness and this is shadows.
04:25Swipe down and you have other options.
04:27You have more light, motion photos, timer, and then your images ratio.
04:33You can go into settings and you have a whole host of other things here.
04:37Social share allows you to quickly share photos right from the camera.
04:42So it's basically a shortcut to certain apps that allows you to take the photo and share
04:46from the camera app itself.
04:48You have frequent faces when you take motion photos or touch and hold for a top shot.
04:53Frequent faces recommends shots that prioritize the people you photograph most.
04:58Okay, that's cute.
05:00There's also camera photo resolution so you can do a full resolution or medium resolution.
05:05At the end here, you also have a toggle for video stabilization which is already on.
05:10It also says here that this will result in a zoomed in view.
05:13Onto the side is video and you have wide 1x, 2x, up until 3x and here you can lock brightness.
05:25You have slow motion on the left side of that.
05:29You can do 1x, 2x, up until 3x as well.
05:33Different settings as well.
05:34So you have 1.8x, you have 1.4x, and yeah that seems to be it.
05:41On the right, you have a time lapse mode so you have 1x to 120x.
05:47And then you have your steady mode so you have standard.
05:50It says for light movement, locked for far away still shots, ooh that could be useful.
05:57Standard for heavy movement and cinematic pan for smooth panning shots as it says so
06:01there.
06:02And then swiping down gives you some options.
06:04Flash, you have resolution, you can shoot in 4K, and you can shoot either 30 or 60 frames
06:11per second.
06:12Can you do 40, 60?
06:13Yes.
06:14On the right, you have different modes so you have panorama, photosphere, and google
06:18lens.
06:19Photosphere is really cute.
06:26So it's pretty cool.
06:27It basically lets you shoot sort of 360 photos.
06:32I didn't do the whole thing but you get the idea.
06:34Now on to the other side, we have portrait photo and you have 1x, 1.3x.
06:40Can you zoom?
06:41Yes.
06:42To 4.7.
06:44Swipe down and you can see in night sight so that's on automatic.
06:49You also have face retouching, that's google's version of a beauty mode.
06:52You can turn it off, you can do subtle, or you can do smooth.
06:56You also have timer and image ratio settings.
06:59On the other side is night sight and that is wide, 1x, 2x, up until 7x.
07:07And then swipe down and that gives you astrophotography, you have auto settings, and what's this?
07:13Off or auto settings, timer, you have focus modes, and your ratio.
07:17On to the selfie.
07:18So this is night sight selfie and you have 1x, 1.4x.
07:23It gives you that prompt to try portrait mode and can you zoom?
07:26Yes.
07:27Up until 4x.
07:28Swipe down and you have self-illumination settings.
07:31So it's basically a fill light, sort of.
07:34So that you have light on your face when you take your selfies because this is night sight
07:38so it's assuming that you're shooting in a dark place.
07:41You have the same settings for face retouching, timer, and ratio.
07:44Then you have portrait mode which gives you 1.2x, 1x, 4x, and swipe down.
07:52You have the same settings.
07:55Camera mode up next and you can do 1x, 1.4x, up until 4x.
08:02Swipe down.
08:04You have the same settings and also an option for motion photos, timer, and your ratio.
08:12And then your video mode gives you 1x, 1.4x, 4x.
08:18You have a selfie time-lapse also.
08:21And then swipe down.
08:22You have selfie illumination.
08:24And then back to modes which we've already seen so now it's time for some sample shots.
08:46That's it for today's video, you guys.
