00:00This video is sponsored by Insta360.
00:04So this tiny camera has basically one great trick
00:08that makes it the most versatile camera that I've ever used.
00:11So there's been action cameras and 360 cameras
00:14for a while now.
00:14I've tried some on and off for a few years,
00:16but Insta360 asked to sponsor a look at their latest,
00:19highest quality, most fully featured version yet.
00:22This is the X3 and I'm really glad I did.
00:24So here's how it works.
00:25This camera body has two half inch high resolution sensors
00:30back to back.
00:30So they're each recording a super wide angle video
00:33that stretches way back,
00:35actually a little beyond 180 degrees.
00:36And so since each camera goes a bit beyond 180,
00:39there's a little overlap at the seams.
00:41And then the camera does the work
00:43to stitch the two feeds together into one.
00:45And then even better,
00:46since it knows where the mounting point is,
00:48it knows where a selfie stick would be
00:50and it can stitch that out of the video.
00:52And then of course it knows its own exact dimensions.
00:55So it can also stitch itself out of the shot.
00:57So essentially it creates this invisible ball
01:01of 360 degree video capturing goodness,
01:04which is pretty sick.
01:05But honestly the how it works isn't nearly as interesting
01:08as what it actually enables you to do.
01:10So check this out.
01:11You pair it up to your phone, right?
01:12You can see what the camera's pointed at, which is me.
01:15And then when I start moving it,
01:17it stays pointed at me.
01:22So they named this flow state stabilization.
01:24Basically it's using AI to find a horizon
01:26and keep that level
01:28and locking on a target somewhere in that sphere of video.
01:32And now you're really getting an idea
01:34of the power of this camera.
01:36This isn't something you get just to shoot spherical video.
01:39Really this is a sphere of video
01:41where you can choose any piece of that sphere
01:44to point at and use.
01:45And that's what makes this
01:47the most versatile camera I've ever seen.
01:48So this X3 is the latest version here to shoot this way.
01:51It has a new half inch sensor, like I said,
01:53it can shoot 5.7K 360 video with HDR
01:57or 8K time-lapses if you want.
01:59It has a new 2.3 inch touchscreen with tempered glass.
02:02And the whole thing is waterproofed up to 33 feet
02:04with an IPX8 rating
02:06with an 1800 milliamp hour removable battery inside.
02:08And so then the whole Insta360 advantage,
02:10the whole thing is the ability to take advantage
02:14of the fact that it's always shooting
02:15this whole sphere of video all the time.
02:17So if you can picture it,
02:18you're just holding a ball of 360 degree video
02:21and you can put it wherever you want.
02:24So that opens up a massive world of possibilities.
02:27So let me show you some of the things you can do
02:29ranging from the simplest
02:30to the craziest and most impressive.
02:33So the simple one is called Me Mode.
02:35You've probably seen this one before.
02:36You can hold out the camera on a selfie stick
02:38and it tracks you and focuses on you automatically.
02:42This is already kind of wild
02:43that it looks like there's just a camera
02:45floating out in front of you.
02:46It can kind of look like a pseudo drone shot
02:48if you move it around over your head enough,
02:50but it's basically just stitching out the selfie stick
02:52and it can export a regular looking widescreen video
02:55from a crazy perspective.
02:57So then, okay, there's what I like to call GTA mode,
03:00which is basically using the extended selfie stick
03:03mounted to a vehicle
03:04so that it's basically floating off the back.
03:07And thanks to tracking,
03:08it has this sick like first person view
03:11of an actual car driving down an actual street.
03:14You might've seen some of these shots on Instagram.
03:17At least I know I have.
03:18I really like though this next one,
03:20which is called first person mode.
03:22This is something I'm actually gonna start using more
03:24on the autofocus channel that we just started
03:26because believe it or not,
03:27holding a phone in one hand
03:28while driving down the highway with the other
03:30is not actually the safest thing to do.
03:32So all you have to do for first person
03:34is put the camera either on your head
03:36or literally hold it in your mouth
03:38and then track the part of the sphere that faces forward
03:41and boom, not only do you have a first person
03:43wide angle shot of what I'm seeing as I drive,
03:46but it's super out of the way and it's very useful.
03:49Fun fact, the other side of the sphere looks like this.
03:52Some people have called this nose mode.
03:55You might've seen some clips like this
03:56also all over the internet.
03:57But probably the craziest thing I've seen in this software
04:00is something called bullet time.
04:02This is just literally swinging this camera
04:05around your head on a string.
04:07So Insta360 actually makes a cord just for this feature.
04:10It's got a quarter 20 screw at the end.
04:11You connect them and you swing the camera around
04:14in slow motion and it can make some pretty sweet videos
04:18kind of an advanced selfie showing off your environment
04:22in 360 degrees.
04:23So it's a pretty complex system that's very capable.
04:25The craziest part of all of this
04:26is that it's all edited on your phone.
04:29It's all done in the Insta360 app.
04:30So that makes it this sort of next level of accessible.
04:34I've been talking about starting YouTube channel
04:35on your phone, making videos on your phone.
04:37You can do all of this with the camera
04:38and one app on your phone.
04:39And render times are not bad either.
04:41So just going through a clip you've shot on this camera
04:44and asking it to track something,
04:47it tracks faster than real time, which is sick.
04:50And you can do a whole sky swap of a video clip
04:52in a few seconds.
04:53It just analyzes the whole clip
04:55and then does a pretty solid convincing sky swap.
04:59And if you think about it at all, it is much faster,
05:02much faster than any Adobe app
05:04or motion graphics tool that I've tried.
05:06But the whole point is any effect you wanna achieve
05:08can be done within the app.
05:09So whether it's something super complex like bullet time
05:12or just some simple reframing,
05:14just moving around that sphere of video,
05:17using key framing and even using the gyroscope of your phone
05:20to point at new things and adjust your shot.
05:22It all works very smoothly.
05:24No matter what, you always have the whole sphere
05:26to play with and you can move around
05:28and create a custom video of whatever angles you want
05:30super quickly.
05:31You can get really creative with it.
05:32So this is a $449 camera and the app on your phone
05:36and a selfie stick, and that's it.
05:38That's the whole system.
05:38So I'm gonna be adding this to the arsenal
05:41for the autofocus channel for sure.
05:43There is also some accessories.
05:44There's this guy, which is a reader accessory.
05:47Instead of having to take out the battery,
05:49which is removable to get to the micro SD card,
05:53you can just plug it straight into your phone
05:55and grab files that way.
05:56There is also a mic jack accessory.
05:59So you can plug in via USB-C and then there's a mic jack.
06:01So things to add a little bit of production quality
06:04to this camera that's already pretty solid on its own.
06:06And there's also other smart features like loop recording,
06:09which records every 30 minutes
06:10and you can use it as a dash cam.
06:11So are there any weaknesses?
06:14Basically, the only one that I found
06:15is with a 360 setup like this with back-to-back cameras,
06:18if you put the subject right on the seam,
06:22like on the edge of where the two cameras are recording,
06:25where it's stitching them together,
06:26you can get some distortion,
06:28especially if you're very close to the camera,
06:30but it's pretty easy to shoot around that.
06:31It's easy to change the orientation
06:33to just make sure somewhere in the sphere is the subject
06:37and then you're good.
06:38So yeah, realistically, this is the most versatile camera
06:40I've ever seen and actually used.
06:42And honestly, I don't even scratch the surface
06:44of the creativity that I've seen people do
06:46with these cameras.
06:47Again, all over my Instagram feed,
06:49I've seen people like throwing this around,
06:51doing fake drone shots.
06:52I saw somebody actually throw it off of a cliff
06:55next to somebody who was diving
06:57and it just fell into the water.
06:59But of course, the sphere captured the person diving
07:02right next to the camera.
07:02It's just cool stuff.
07:04So naturally, I'm gonna be bringing this
07:05into autofocus videos, first person driving shots,
07:08maybe selfie stick outside of the car stuff,
07:10things like that.
07:11But go ahead and subscribe over there
07:13if you wanna see that stuff.
07:14I'll have a link below to the channel.
07:15I'll also have a link below to the camera itself.
07:17And thanks again to Insta360 for sponsoring this look.
07:19But that's pretty much been it.
07:21Thanks for watching.
07:22And I'll catch you guys in the next one.
07:24Peace.
