A new Bill for house arrest is expected to be tabled in Parliament in 2025, announced Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the Cabinet has approved the policy for implementing the Bill, which is being drafted by the Attorney General's Department and the Prisons Department director-general, Datuk Seri Nordin Muhamad, as stakeholders.

00:25He adds once the bill is drafted, it will be presented to the Cabinet and thereafter

00:31He said during a press conference after launching the Santuni Madani One Leader, One Village
00:37programme in Bukit Tiu on Saturday.
00:39He said the new house arrest bill would not amend the Prisons Act but instead be introduced
00:45as new legislation.
00:48During Friday's tabling of Budget 2025, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced
00:55that the government would draft a new law allowing house arrest as an alternative sentence
01:00for certain offences.
01:02These offenders would be required to stay at designated places of detention, such as
01:07a residential home, care facility or workers' dormitory, throughout their detention period.
