The Queensland Premier has been in the state's far north spruiking his election pledge to deliver free lunches for every state primary school student.

00:00Premier Stephen Miles has served up more details today about his free school lunches policy
00:07outlining what could go in these meals.
00:10He's released example menus that he says were put together by Health and Wellbeing Queensland.
00:14These menus feature items such as beef chow mein, cheeseburgers, vegetable fritters and
00:19mini pizzas.
00:20There are also snacks on the menus such as watermelons, savoury muffins and yogurt cups.
00:25The Premier unveiled the menus while touring a Meals on Wheels facility in Cairns in the
00:29States North.
00:30Laborers pledged to spend $1.4 billion on the free school lunches which would be available
00:34to every state primary school student in Queensland.
00:38Mr Miles says the policy is costed at $8 per meal for each student.
00:42The Premier says some schools might need to outsource to local cafes to make the meals
00:46but he wants the policy up and running from term one next year.
00:50These example menus have been developed on the advice of Health and Wellbeing Queensland.
00:56They are nutritious, they cover all of the food groups and they teach kids what healthy
01:02eating looks like, how to have a variety of different meals.
01:06They cover a snack and a lunch.
01:08The Premier is in the midst of a blitz through the regions.
01:11He visited Mackay and Townsville yesterday and started today in Cairns.
01:16Cairns is the real battleground of this election.
01:19The government holds several seats in this region on tight margins.
01:22They include the electorates of Cook, Barron River as well as Cairns itself.
