00:00The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources assured that the supply of fish in the country is sufficient
00:05with the start of the closed fishing season in November.
00:09This is Joshua Garcia's report.
00:12The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources or BFAR assured
00:16that there will be no shortage in the supply of fish
00:19with the approaching closed fishing season in the next month.
00:22According to BFAR spokesperson Nazariel Briguera,
00:25the closed fishing season will start on November 1 until January 31 of the next year
00:29for Galunggong, particularly in Northeastern Palawan.
00:33On November 15 until February 15,
00:35the closed fishing season will last in Zamboanga Peninsula for sardine fishing,
00:40as well as in Visayas Sea for small pelagic or tuna-like species such as halumahana.
00:45In accordance with this conservation measure implemented by the government through BFAR every year,
00:50it is likely that the expected supply gap will be met,
00:54especially in the markets.
00:57What the government is doing is temporary
01:01so that we can be sure that the supply in the markets is still available
01:07not in terms of increasing the price.
01:11So what we are trying to do is to meet the available price
01:14of fish in the markets during the closed fishing season.
01:18According to BFAR monitoring,
01:20the fish is sold at P300 per kilo now in markets such as Galunggong.
01:25Aside from this, they have not yet monitored a large increase in the price of fish in the family.
01:31Despite the expansion of most fishermen to recover
01:34and while there is no gale warning in the seas after the rains.
01:39According to Breguera,
01:40they have approved up to 30,000 tons of fish that they expect to arrive by batches
01:46this last week of October until the first week of November
01:49that will come from neighboring countries such as Vietnam.
01:52According to BFAR,
01:53the closed fishing season should not be the reason for an increase in the price
01:56when it comes to the sale of fish in the markets.
01:58Meanwhile, they still expect this
02:01due to the temporary limitation of fishing.
02:04We need to take account that the only thing closing is Palawan
02:09although that is our major source of Galunggong.
02:12But there are also other sources of Galunggong.
02:16We expect locally produced Galunggong.
02:20The price of Galunggong is a bit high because of the limited supply.
02:25Meanwhile, BFAR also promised that although frozen marine species
02:29will be seen by fishermen selling in the markets in the coming months,
02:32it will be saved because it passes through their regulations and sanitary and phytosanitary clearance.
02:38Our environment is very strict there.
02:42The regulatory requirements and food safety requirements should be followed.
02:49We need to increase the price of fish so that we can ensure the safety of our people.
