00:00The Department of Environment and Natural Resources continues to guard against foreigners working in illegal mines in the country.
00:09Meanwhile, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. named several companies in the mining sector.
00:18This is the story of Claycel Pardilla.
00:21The reports of illegal work of several Chinese nationals in Pogo, Barco in Manila Bay and Construction Site have been added.
00:32In a separate operation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the authorities,
00:37several Chinese foreigners were caught in two illegal mines.
00:42We were caught here at the border of Cagandeoro and Iligan.
00:49It was an illegal mining operation that we saw by satellite and by reports on the ground
00:57in our human intelligence that was done by some foreigners.
01:03These people were arrested.
01:06We also have an operation with PAOC here in Camarines.
01:14It is an illegal mining operation that is also done by foreigners.
01:25It is under the control of the DNR.
01:27They do not allow foreigners to work in mines
01:32unless they have high technical expertise.
01:36According to the labor code, the priority is given to the Filipino workers in the mines.
01:41Under the Constitution, the natural resources of the country should be used by the Filipinos.
01:49It's certainly a concern.
01:50And so we work very closely with our other partners.
01:54Not just, I would say, the local authorities, but certainly with our partners in the Department of Defense.
02:03And of course DTI and DOLE, we'd like to have closer cooperation
02:11to see whether there is a document that is correct.
02:17The cases are now being processed.
02:20The mines are closely monitored by the DNR.
02:24The agency does not say that there are other foreigners working in the mines.
02:30In addition, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. introduced the companies
02:36that showed outstanding performance in the mining sector.
02:4013 mining companies were awarded the 2023 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award in Malacanang.
02:48These awardees have shown commendable support for our vision for the mining sector.
02:53You continue to invest in environmental technologies and adopt best practices
02:58that go even beyond compliance.
03:01From pioneering reforestation efforts to utilizing more sustainable extraction techniques.
03:07And of course, your meaningful contributions to the host and neighboring communities
03:12through education, healthcare, and livelihood programs are truly inspiring.
03:18The government values the responsibility of mining
03:22in the face of rising demand for clean energy and the promotion of the use of electronic vehicles.
03:29In 2023, mining production in Tanso, Ginto, and Nicol reached Php 160 billion.
03:38The contribution of the mining industry to gross domestic product reached 0.5%.
03:45President Marcos Jr. pushed for the rationalization of the mining fiscal regime
03:51or the adjustment of life expectancy in the mining industry
03:55and the promotion of more responsible mining.
