00:00Is car tuning really necessary?
00:17Do we always need more power, more speed?
00:21What if you have a car that already has an engine hand built in a lab by race engineers
00:26with a state-of-the-art all-wheel drive system?
00:30A car that changes gears in 150 milliseconds and has enough grip to peel up the pavement?
00:36The Nissan GT-R wants more.
00:40This one here is running 600 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque at the wheels.
00:48The founder of the GTA GT-R club wanted me to find out what this Godzilla is all about.
01:04That's right.
01:05You heard me.
01:06600 horsepower at the wheels.
01:10So assuming a 10% parasitic loss, that's a conservative estimate.
01:16We're looking at 650 horsepower at the crank.
01:20So my goal with this review is to try and let you guys know what it's like to drive
01:24a car that's this fast, because if you're anything like me, you spent the last many
01:28years of your life sitting around trying to imagine what it's like to take off in something
01:33like a GT-R.
01:34Okay, so about to be turning onto a road here where I can give it a little bit of right
01:43foot to see what 650 brake horsepower actually feels like.
02:02What?
02:08The torque just consumes your whole body.
02:31I'm not sure that I have the words right now to describe.
02:33I've never been in a car this fast before.
02:35The fastest car that I've driven before this was a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and it was on
02:39a track.
02:40It was very loud, but there's something about the torque delivery of this car.
02:46And I'll be honest right now, I don't even have it in high boost mode.
02:50As a comparison, there's a roller coaster in Disney World.
02:54I know I'm going off track.
02:55Bear with me.
02:56There's a roller coaster called the Rockin' Roller Coaster.
02:59It's an Aerosmith-themed roller coaster.
03:02Its claim to fame is that it launches its passengers to 58 miles an hour from a dead
03:08stop in 2.9 seconds, I think is what it is.
03:16This car is faster than that.
03:26You hit the rev limiter in first gear so quickly.
03:31Your brain cannot keep up with how fast it pulls off the line.
03:38How do I?
03:39Okay, so this is what it feels like when you're at a stand stop and you launch.
03:43It feels like you are standing in the middle of the road, and the GTR comes up behind you
03:50already at speed, and it picks you up when it's already moving.
03:55Honestly, if the seats weren't this comfortable, I would describe the experience as painful.
04:02Here we go again.
04:15The transmission is so good.
04:19The shifts, 150 milliseconds, I think they are.
04:23They're just bang.
04:24You hear a little click from the paddle right here, and then just another hit of power.
04:30It's just wave after wave after wave of torque.
04:37I have dreamed about driving one of these cars for quite a long time.
04:42And with this tune, this is smashing my expectations to bits.
04:47600 horsepower at the wheels does not come from just a cold air intake.
04:52So what the owner has done, we've done SBD three-inch intakes on the front, Bosch 1,000cc
04:59fuel injectors, an SBD Catless downpipe, an AAM non-resonated mid-pipe, and a custom software
05:07tune by Magnus Motorsports.
05:10I was the owner on the side of the road there as I just kind of put my right foot down.
05:13He's going, go faster, go, do it, do it.
05:15Oh, what a cool guy.
05:19It feels so accurate.
05:23I don't even have the car in race mode.
05:26You think, and it goes.
05:28Oh, there's so much grip.
05:40Oh, the brakes.
05:41Oh, the brakes.
05:43The weight, the four-wheel drive, the Michelin Pilot Supersports that I'm driving on create
05:49a thing that just is glued to the road.
05:59There's just so much grip.
06:08The steering weights up perfectly.
06:10People that have said that this car is too electronic, no, I completely disagree.
06:17It feels very, very connected.
06:22I'm not even approaching the limit of what this car can do, not even close.
06:26This isn't even squeaking at me.
06:28It's making all of the other cars around me feel really slow, because no matter what I
06:32do, I put my foot down, I go around a corner, there's someone there, there's a bicyclist,
06:35there's a dog.
06:36And no matter what I do, I feel like I'm catching up to the rest of the world in this car.
06:43So do you need to make a GT-R faster?
06:45No.
06:46But my God, is it amazing when you do.
06:49This car is comically fast.
06:51And it's a bit surreal, to be honest.
06:54The fact that it shares a badge and window switches with a 100-horsepower Nissan Versa
06:59is as ridiculous as an ancient Japanese sword maker that hand-forges folded steel katanas,
07:04or making plastic cutlery.
07:06A greater dichotomy has never existed.
07:10I have nothing but the utmost respect for what the owner has done to this car.
07:14Yes, this is an amazing car right out of the factory, but to take it and to make it so
07:19much more, that's so valuable.
07:24Some people say that tuning a car is like not respecting the car, because you're not
07:29respecting what it was capable of from the factory.
07:32I think it's the other way around.
07:34I think taking a car and showing the world what it is truly capable of, that is respecting a car.
07:44For those that may never drive one of these, I want you to know that it is everything you
07:48hope it will be.
07:49Any GT-R, and especially a tuned one, will put expressions of disbelief on your face.
07:54The scary thing is, is that GT-Rs can produce much more power than this.
07:59The owner said he is thinking about upgrading the turbos to push those numbers even higher.
08:04And after driving his car, I need more.
08:07So to him I say, please do it.
08:24So I had to pick my camera guy up for a second to move him.
08:27He's never been in a car this fast before.
08:40What can you really say after that?
