Can GM Jerry Jones improve Cowboys NOW?
With Davante Adams and Amari Cooper being traded today, Mike and Cory ask if there are things Jerry Jones can do right now to improve the Cowboys.

00:05there are teams right now that are contenders.
00:07There are teams right now that are fighting to be contenders,
00:10and they're making moves.
00:11There are teams right now that are not contenders, and they're selling.
00:14Are you picking up the phone and calling those teams that are selling?
00:17That's saying that we can go find something.
00:18We can actually do something other than sitting on our hands
00:22and saying we can't do anything right now.
00:24We just have to sit and wait and hope that Mike McCarthy
00:26can do something special with the recipe that we've given him so far.
00:30And I think this is where Jerry's work ethic comes into question.
00:34If you're going to run the franchise the way he does,
00:36which is we only draft and then we sign C and D level free agents,
00:40and sometimes they end up being very good free agents.
00:42I'm not saying Eric Kendricks is not doing a good job
00:45when he's healthy on the field.

00:48What I'm saying is, is if you're 100% into the draft and nothing else,
00:52you have to trade Demarcus Lawrence today.
00:54You have to trade Zach Martin today.
00:56You should have traded Tyron Smith three years ago.
00:58If you're only a drafting team
01:00and you have to get all of your players through the draft,
01:02then as your players have three or four years left,
01:05and I know Zach Martin's probably retiring at the end of the year
01:07and maybe he's not.
01:08Who knows, yeah.
01:09But like, that's how you have to do it.
01:13He just isn't.
01:14And the thing is, I know he's educated enough and I know he's super smart.
01:18He just doesn't care.
01:20That's why I quit the Cowboys.
01:21I know that the person running the Cowboys,
01:23his priority of winning is like third at best on his list.
01:26And I don't even think it's third,
01:27but I'll give him credit that it's third on his list.
01:30Is that if you're going to run it this way, Jerry,
01:33you have to trade guys right now.
01:36You have to start, you have to make players available
01:40that you know you're not going to sign long-term
01:43or you feel like you can't financially afford them long-term
01:47to then add a whole bunch of draft picks.
01:49Because if you're ever going to build a championship team
01:51just through draft picks and signing your own,
01:54then you have to accumulate 10 to 14 draft picks a year
01:59to do what you want to accomplish.
02:01But he can't think that far
02:02because it's not that big of a priority for him.
02:05This team, in order to make something special happen,
02:08if they want it this year,
02:09they got to make some significant changes
02:12or hope that whenever those players come back,
02:14that's the changes that they need.
