00:00G'day, I'm Paul. Audi has recently upgraded the infotainment system in a lot of its cars. Today
00:05I'm going to take you through a detailed review of MMI, which is Audi's infotainment system, plus the secondary screen that sits beneath it,
00:12virtual cockpit and also
00:13head-up display so you can see what all the features are like. Now if you haven't seen the other videos on our channel, make sure
00:19you have a look at our car reviews, some of our drag races and other infotainment reviews as well.
00:23But let's get stuck into this.
00:26Up the top here, we have a 10.1 inch display. It looks really nice and high-resolution,
00:31but it has a special feature and that is haptic feedback.
00:33So as you push your finger onto these, it lights up to give you an idea of the context of those menus.
00:40But then what you can do is push a little harder,
00:42you get a click and then you feel it on the end of your finger so that you know that you've hit that button
00:47successfully. So I really like the way that's set up. I'll take you through each of these menus.
00:51So if we jump into radio, you have AM, FM, DAB plus digital radio, plus the ability to stream online radio stations
00:58as well when you have a mobile paired device. Now,
01:01you can use your telephone as the mobile device through Wi-Fi or in the glove box here,
01:07you can put an extra SIM card in as well. The car also has its own SIM card inside for connected services. Over in the media
01:13menu, this is where you'll find your Bluetooth devices, plus also USB connected devices or any other wirelessly connected devices to the car.
01:20Telephone, same story. You can either go down the path of smartphone mirroring or Bluetooth connectivity. Now,
01:26keep in mind with smartphone mirroring, you won't need one of these anymore because it is wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
01:31I'll show you what that looks like. It is a really impressive system.
01:35It is incredibly high resolution and look how quickly it jumps through those menus.
01:40That is very, very impressive, that integration. What about navigation? I like the way that Audi has set this up.
01:46So it's a very fast screen, but you can see here that you have satellite overlays on the screen.
01:50And then if you do need to put navigation destinations in, you can either use the voice recognition system or type them in manually.
01:57So let's try Melbourne Airport, which is my go-to. You can use the screen down here as a typing pad.
02:03So I'll put in an M there.
02:05Or you can simply bring up the keyboard and type the rest in. So it's like your own mini computer.
02:11Let's give that a shot.
02:13I'm sure that in 20 years time, we'll look back at this and laugh, but for the moment, it's pretty cool.
02:17There you go. That's come up really nice and quickly.
02:19So very impressive in-built navigation, or you can just use your smartphone mirroring. Shortcut there for Apple CarPlay.
02:26Then you have your car settings.
02:27So this is where you can change everything to do with the car, everything from your seats to the lights and how far ahead they're going.
02:33Your suspension settings, the emergency assist controls, if you're going to a racetrack or something,
02:38you can actually reduce any assistance on the car,
02:40or you can shortcut straight to that menu by pushing here, and then change the level of assistance you have.
02:45So it doesn't go off if there's other cars and stuff around you. There is a help menu.
02:49This is where you'll find some usage tips and also the in-built manual.
02:53So let's have a look here. Basic information will tell you how to connect your phone and all the other stuff that you'll eventually learn
02:58how to do yourself.
02:59Swipe across, you then have user settings.
03:02So if you have several people that drive the car, you can set up different user profiles and it will remember everything there.
03:07You can then also assign them to keys as well as required.
03:10You have messages built into the car, also weather.
03:12This is all via those wireless services.
03:15And then if you swipe down from the top there, you have shortcuts for audio, settings, Wi-Fi and then car profiles as well.
03:21So beneath the 10.1-inch screen, you also have a secondary 8.6-inch screen.
03:26This also has haptic feedback and features some of your most commonly accessed functions.
03:31So down the bottom, you'll see heated seats, the climate controls, which you can activate after switching off,
03:37there's a secondary menu that then brings up another context up the top for your fragrance, the ionizer.
03:43So the fragrance will pump out nice smells into the cabin.
03:45The ionizer will ionize the air in the cabin.
03:48And then you can also set custom functions up the top if you do want anything else to appear in that top screen.
03:54Now moving on to virtual cockpit, that is the digital display ahead of the driver.
03:58This stuff has advanced so much since it was first launched. It now has super fast and super sharp graphics.
04:04So this is your default display. You can then range through the different items.
04:08We have radio, telephone and then navigation.
04:11What you can then do is adjust the view.
04:14So you get supersized navigation.
04:16You get telephone with creepy images of your friends.
04:19You get radio display there and then trip computer as well.
04:22But what you can also do is change the feel of this by going into S performance mode.
04:29Have a look at that. You just get this space age looking display.
04:32And if I go back to navigation, how cool is that?
04:35So you're just getting all sorts of really interesting display options.
04:38And as you can see, everything is moving through very quickly.
04:41So that processor has some absolute grunt.
04:44Finally, you've also got a head up display.
04:46It's pretty basic. It shows you your speed, navigation information and also any lane keeping assist or adaptive cruise control details.
04:53So there you go. That is a really comprehensive in-car infotainment system.
04:56Let me know in the comments below, do you reckon this is one of the best in the segment?
04:59Or do you think iDrive or MBUX is better?
05:03If you did enjoy this video, make sure you hit like, subscribe, press the bell icon as well.
05:07So you can find out every single time we publish a new review.
05:09But until next time, drive safely.
