00:00Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22, in this video I'm going to compare them in absolutely
00:08every way possible to find out which one is the better deal and therefore which one you
00:13should buy.
00:14As always, let's begin by talking about the exterior design, which as you can see is very
00:20similar in both phones, not to say almost identical.
00:23With the only small difference that the S23 looks a little bit more simple, a little bit
00:29more minimalistic, which is kind of the current trend in terms of design.
00:33Although, as I said, the S22 is practically identical, changes are absolutely microscopical,
00:40and in general the two phones have a more than decent design.
00:43In fact, in my humble opinion, this is the best design I've seen on a Samsung phone ever.
00:50It looks and feels very good, and of course this goes for both the S23 and the S22.
00:56So let's give both the point in the design category and move on to the processor, which
01:02is a feature that's not so similar between the two phones.
01:06On one hand, we have the S22 with the Snapdragon 8th generation 1, which is last year's top
01:12tier Android processor, and currently one of the best processors in the world.
01:17Although, it has a flaw, quite an ugly flaw actually, which is that it gets very hot when
01:24you play games, when you're using a specific app for a long time, or in general when you're
01:29doing things that are a bit demanding with the phone, the processor heats up like hell,
01:35and therefore performance has to drop so the phone can cool down.
01:38And well, quote unquote, thankfully, Samsung thought of this in advance, and they designed
01:44the S22 with a good thermal system, with a good heat dissipation mechanism, so even though
01:50the processor was going to get very hot, the phone sort of like counteracted that effect.
01:57But even then, the phone gets very hot, and it has to throttle, so performance suffers
02:02greatly, and therefore it sits well behind the Apple alternative from that year, which
02:07is the A15, which is not an issue on the S23, because it has the next generation processor,
02:14the Snapdragon 8th generation 2, that no longer had those problems, in addition to improving
02:20single core performance by a bunch, and multi-core performance a decent amount.
02:25So yeah, the S23 has a considerable improvement in overall performance, it's faster, it's
02:30more powerful, and it doesn't have any of those throttling issues.
02:34So we're going to give the performance point to the S23, and move on to the battery category,
02:40which spoiler alert, there is a clear winner out of these two phones, it's the one you
02:45would probably expect, but first, I would like to tell you that both phones on Amazon
02:51right now have a very, very juicy price.
02:54I left links for both phones in the description, just in case at the end of the video you decide
02:58which one you want to buy, and you want to buy it at a good price, you can get it in
03:03the do do do do.
03:04But anyways, that being said, let's move on to the battery, where as you can see here,
03:08and as I said before, there is a clear winner, the S23 has a noticeably better battery life,
03:14between 15 and 20% more, to be precise.
03:17Both because it has a 3900 mAh battery instead of the 3700 mAh on the S22, and because the
03:25phone is more optimized, in fact, remember the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2, well it's actually
03:31called Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 for Samsung, because Samsung optimized it, tweaked it specifically
03:39for their phones, so it worked better on their phones, so that extra optimization on top
03:44of improving performance, also helps for the phone to be more optimal, to spend less
03:49power, therefore have a longer lasting battery life.
03:53So let's get the point to the S23, and continue by talking a little bit about the display,
03:59starting with the S23, which has a 6.1 inch OLED panel, with 1750 nits of brightness,
04:06very crazy, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, the best smartphone glass you can get right
04:12now, which of course are better specs than the ones you can find on the S22, which also
04:16has a 6.1 inch OLED panel, but with only 1300 nits of brightness, and normal Gorilla Glass
04:24Victus, not the second generation Victus, which I mean the Gorilla Glass Victus 1 or
04:292 doesn't really matter, but the extra brightness is very noticeable, going from 1300 to 1750
04:35nits is very noticeable, especially outdoors, you know, you all know that if the sun is
04:40directly facing your phone in the summer, a lot of times you can't really see anything,
04:45if you have an older phone, or if your phone doesn't have a lot of brightness, you have
04:49to go to like a shaded area, or you're not going to see what's in your phone.
04:52So let's give another half a point to the S23, only a half a point because it's not
04:57that big of a deal, 1300 was already very good, and we move on to the main feature,
05:02to the most important component for the vast majority of people, which is the camera unit.
05:07In the S23 we have three cameras, a 50 megapixel main lens, a 10 megapixel zoom lens, and a
05:1412 megapixel ultra wide, which is exactly the same as we can find on the S22 with a
05:2050 megapixel main, 10 megapixel zoom, and 12 megapixel ultra wide.
05:25And although in general they are very, very good, I have noticed a couple of very nice
05:30improvements on the S23 camera as opposed to the S22.
05:34For example, here in the main camera, I've noticed how the sensor lets in more light,
05:39which means there's more detail, and overall pictures look a little bit more crispy.
05:44To be completely honest, I can't really distinguish the changes at a first glance.
05:48I have to put them side by side, zoom in, look closely, reason out the small differences
05:54I find, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to declare a winner.
05:57Which is the same thing that I can tell you about the zoom camera, I see changes which
06:01are more or less noticeable depending on the picture, but they are not big enough to
06:06be seen right away.
06:07Where I haven't really noticed any changes is in the ultra wide camera.
06:11I think both phones have the same sensor, and I don't think Samsung has updated any
06:15of the other camera components on the S23, because these photos look almost identical.
06:21And all of the small differences you see are probably due to the slight angle changes or
06:26the camera settings taking the photo, because let's remember the two cameras are in automatic
06:30mode, meaning you don't really know the ISO or the aperture that the camera is using.
06:35Which is completely normal, you know, cameras are improving less and less every year because
06:39there's a cap with the sensor size.
06:42Unless you make a bigger phone with a bigger sensor and a bigger lens, it's impossible
06:47for you to take better pictures.
06:49Actually, nowadays, most of the photo is the post-processing, because the photo itself,
06:54the photo that the camera takes, can only be good enough if the sensor is very tiny.
06:58So, it's fine, it's normal, it's not a bad thing that both phones are almost identical.
07:03Well, it's not a good thing either, but what I'm trying to say is that it's a common thing
07:07in all other smartphones and all other brands.
07:10And well, everything I just told you applies to the video, it applies to the nighttime
07:14photography, and it applies to the selfie mode, where, well, let's be clear, the S23
07:21has two more megapixels than the S22, it has 12 megapixels, and the S22 has only 10.
07:29But, to be completely honest, I'm not able to see the improvements that should be there,
07:33because there's more megapixels, I guess.
07:35And well, besides all of this, both phones record video at 8K, which is absolutely insane.
07:40I don't really know what kind of user needs to record 8K video, but the two phones can
07:45do it.
07:46And well, they can also record video in ultra slow motion at 960 FPS, which is not very
07:51useful either, but it's very fun.
07:54If you want to mess around with a camera, record stuff in slow motion, record things
07:58that you're naked, I can't see, it's fun.
08:01It's a fun feature, not functional, but it's fun.
08:03It's cool.
08:04So I'm going to give a half a point more to the S23.
08:08In total, as you can see, the S23 has three more points, and of course, that makes it
08:12the better phone.
08:13Surprise, of course, it's a newer phone, it has to be better.
08:16Now the question is, for $200 more, which is the extra money you're going to have to
08:22pay to get the S23 as opposed to the S22, are all of those changes worth it enough?
08:27Yes.
08:28In this case, I would say yes, because the Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 was not so good,
08:33and the battery life is very appreciated, the brightness is very appreciated.
08:37I think the changes we've seen on the S23 are very functional.
08:41They're very good.
08:42They're very noticeable for the user.
08:44So I think this time it is worth it to pay a little bit more money to get the S23.
08:48But remember, both phones have a very, very good price on Amazon.
08:51I left direct links in the description.
